what's the LMAD1 and 2 at the bottom of some of these stats? I've never seen those before.
ReplyDeleteThats the Lets Make A Deal ratings, the game show that replaced Guiding Light in many of its time slots.
ReplyDeleteDespite its last-place finish, LMAD is super-cheap to produce compared to soaps. The ratings gap between LMAD and ATWT is much too close for comfort.
ReplyDeleteHere is a ratings report card. NBC primetime is in big trouble, if the network does not improve it will not make money and thus there is no way it will spread money to save soap like current DAYS, even with the hype and spin that 2.1 ratings is hot....

For Anonym above me. NBC is not investing any money into DAYS, they cut the licence fee and forced Corday to slash the budget so DAYS is still able to make profit for them. They pay Corday LESS for the episodes than the sponsors pay to them for the ad time. That´s sort of the point of the television business. If they had to shell money into the show to keep it afloat it would be canceled years ago.
ReplyDeleteNow, the question is if they are able to develop some program even cheaper which will be able to bring the same ratings and demos for a whole year. If they are, DAYS is toast or will have to slash the budget even more, if that´s even possible. If they aren´t, Corday will have an upper hand once because NBC is not in a state right now to cancel one of the few shows which brings them money just because one of the head doesn´t like it or would like to have a soap free network.
But another thing people are not mentioning, some timetie in 2011 (maybe it is later in 2010) NBC is moving into their new studio. They can get more money using these studios for their own shows or hiring them out to other producers. I doubt Corday can pay as much to rent sound stages. I think that was that was why it extended the show until September of 2010, because they are just waiting until the end of the network's stay at the Alameda Blvd. studio. Ending the show in March would mean six months with empty soundstages. Now, they just wait until the end of their stay, kick out Corday, and when they move they can get people to rent their newer, more modern soundstages, and get more money than they get from Corday to use the set.
