Beware of Greeks Bearing Gifts
A review of the 10/27/09 episode.
Carly and Bo – I have to say I found the Bo/Carly reunion disappointing. I wanted some sort of real shock or surprise from Bo at seeing her again after all of the years. Instead, he just seemed annoyed that she was there at all. Then their conversation deteriorated into sarcastic barbs and inane dialogue about diet beer. If you go back and see old Bo 80s clips, Bo seemed a lot more shocked at the sight of seeing Megan Hathaway again who had meant a lot less to him. If DAYS wants to hang on to GL fans, I’m not sure this lackluster reunion (complete with yet another Lawrence Alamain gutting flashback) was the way to do it. But then again, I also thought that firing six vets would cause the show to tank; but the ratings have improved so much that DAYS was renewed, so what the hell do I know?
Hope, Justin, Victor and Ciara – Again, I shake my head at how contrived Hope’s move to the Kiriakis Mansion is. If Victor is such a great BOPE supporter, where was his concern for them all of the other hundreds of times that they’ve split up? The jury’s still out for me on a Hope and Justin coupling. I want them to be hot together. I really do. But so far, I confess that I don’t see anything close to a spark yet.
Lucas, Nathan and Melanie, Maggie– Always great to see Lucas, but annoying that he’s being backburnered in rehab just to give Nathan some filler scenes with Melanie and Maggie. It was nice to see that Maggie and Lucas are making up though, one of the few genuine friendships that still exists on DAYS. And kudos to the Norm de Plume reference…and for Maggie being less judgmental.
Stefano and Kate, Nicole and EJ – So how many false teases are we going to have to endure to find out when Sami is Sydney’s real mom? Ugh. And just how long did DAYS make poor Arianne Zuker waddle around before letting her go on maternity leave? But forget Bo and Hope or Bo and Carly…the real supercouple these days is Kate and Stefano. They stole the episode with their humor, edged with malice. And I agree with Kate…those 30-somethings are pretty damned grim!

Carly and Bo : i liked it. It was not amazing, i agree with you about the disappointing Bo's reaction but i like Carly (CC is good) and their banter dynamic..it's good to see Bo has humor.

Justin for now is not really interesting but he is likeable and not in the "dull zone"..cough Hernandez siblings cough..
Melanie and Nathan are cute but seriously i don't care.. i guess on a soap there will always be a cute teens/twentysomething couple..so why not..Melanie has more chemistry with Philip..but dimples could find a girl more of his age..cast a new love interest (Marcy Rylan please..) or paired him with Nicole when she will come back or improve Stephanie (even if the actress is dull..with good writing maybe..) i don't know do something..it's a waste to make him chasing after a bubbly teenage girl.
Lucas..why show him if the guy has no storyline..don't understand..sometimes i really love the guy sometimes he is really really annoying (his judgemental behaviour toward Sami when you know he is not better..i can't get past that..lol) but give him a storyline (single dad with a business war..something like that and away away from Kate..She is toxic for him and not in a good soapy way) or leave him go !
I don't like Kate..her uber slutty/skank vibe annoys me...but with the awesome Stefano she is entertaining..Steffi is really Kate's saviour..lol
Bo and Carly's unsentimental reunion didn't surprise me. The writers have been downplaying their romance from the get-go, presumably because they want Bope's marriage to implode from within rather than at the hands of third party.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine Bo and Carly fans are happy with the downplaying of their history, but as a GL fan who followed CC to DOOL I don't really care. I enjoyed the snarky reunion and the fact that Carly is FINALLY interacting with a conscious Salemite. Like many GL fans accustomed to faster-moving storylines, I've become increasingly impatient the glacial pace of Carly's return. With the Bo/Carly reunion, it seems to be kicking into gear. Too bad it didn't happen sooner, but better late than never.
I loved Wally Kurth on GH. Not so much on DOOL. I hope the writers start taking advantage of his talents as the Bo/Carly/Hope/Justin quad progresses.
The baby-switch storyline hasn't captured my interest. Kate and Stefano (and Victor) are amusing. I can't wait for Vivian's return.
I did enjoy the snarkyness of Bo/Carly reunion it reminded me of when they first met and Bo told her he was ticked off lol but yea I don't enjoy the downplaying of there relationship then again I was a Lawrence/Carly fan so it doesn't really matter to me at least Carly is finally in Salem. I'm not enjoying Justin/Hope which is strange because Justin is so dang cute but it feels like this was manufactured for a way to have Bo/Hope already be in trouble before Carly got there but imo if Bo/Carly have the chemistry let them run with it you don't have to manufacture problems for Bo/Hope first.
ReplyDeleteWell, despite the what some of the returning CC fans say I did not see any chem in the past between Bo/Carly. It was a pre-fab couple, thrown together with no thought. Sorry Bo fans, but I could never see Euro-aristocratic/doctor Katerina falling for blue collar Bo. But then I get board with all the need that rich or smart girls like the rough, rebels. They really should have brought Katerina and Lawrence back with Steve (and Jack) returned from the dead. And work with the history as really happened: It was Lawrence behind the kidnapping of Steve. And instead of breaking up Bo/Hope with yet another ex-, they should have just had the Alamains, including Vivian as the show dysfunctional, twisted rich family who were the villains. And James should have been Nicholas, because it is beyond stupid that EJ is suddenly Sami's age, when he was born after Will -- in '92 Nikki was already about 10 years old, so in '06 he being 28 would have required just minimal SORASing.
ReplyDeleteAnd what is up with Carly saying "it was not her Lawrence?" Again the idiot, sloppy writers did no research, Lawrence raped Jennifer, and tried to kill Bo (several times), Jennifer, Jack, Alice, Julie, Frankie, Shane, Kayla, and Carly; and back in Salem he tortured J/J, tried to develop a biological weapon to kill numerous people, especially Bo. I loved MS at the time, because he remained a villain, and sick. But again, I wished Katerina/Lawrence returned as a couple and were out to torment all of Salem -- back when the people they did bother, Jennifer, Jack, Steve and Kayla were on. And I would love especially for Jennifer to feel the fool for trusting her Bestest Friend; for Steve and Kayla to go after them for what he did to them.
Yes but Lawrence was different with her thus the "my Lawrence" saying. I think CC had friend chemistry with Bo which is fine by me I don't want CC's Carly to end up being just like Billie Bope roadkill

Yes, Lawrence has always been a monster but not with Carly; that's what changed. The revelation about Lawrence's "illness" makes me think he'll be back somewhere down the road.
ReplyDeleteThe writers (and PR and CC in interviews) have made it abundantly clear that Bo and Carly won't be in romance mode anytime soon. It's certainly playing that way.
I don't want Carly to end up as Bope roadkill either. In the unlikely event that she and Bo don't hook up, I won't be crushed.
I think Bo and Carly were fab. PR and CC have it together. But it's hard not to have it with two actors as skilled as them and willing to give their best.

The only snobbish aristocrat I see in this story is Hope. She always acts like she is doing Bo a favor....
