3/5/10 review - Melancholy Women

Hope/Justin/Carly – My first critical thought was – “Man, does Wally look hot in that black leather jacket or what?” But on to more relevant matters. The Hope/Justin scenes are just more of the same spiel that we’ve endured for months now of Hope moping and Justin being the nodding understanding friend who hopes to become the lover. However, when Justin and Carly had their scene together, that adversarial chemistry started to rev up again. Why doesn’t the DAYS brass pay attention to what’s on their screen and get these two in the same orbit more often? Crystal Chappell and Wally Kurth have great acting chemistry together which could lead to exciting stuff if given half a chance.

Daniel/Melanie/Philip/Bo – The Fashionista Police in my head dictates that Bo’s tie really clashes with his shirt. But on to more revevant matters. Has Bo gone to the “Roman Brady Police Academy” now? With the way that he’s interrogating and annoying everyone right now nonstop, even I’m ready to confess to shooting the bride! To quote Melanie: “That man gets on my nerves.” Philip has the rather lackluster role of standing by his woman during her ordeal; and Daniel is finally going to put us all out of our misery and tell Melanie who her Daddy is.

EJ/Sydney/Anna – Anna’s thrill over getting her five million dollars supplied a nice moment of humor in a mostly humorless show. That being said, it would have been nice if Anna and Sydney could have had a longer goodbye moment. I’m sure the poor baby thinks Auntie Anna’s one of her mommies by now.

EJ’s comment about Tony – This pissed me off so much, it gets its own paragraph. Whenever the writers create dialogue about Tony, they just reveal how little they know the history of their own show. EJ’s comment about Tony being “the original eye-for-an-eye guy” was just one more case in point. When the character of Tony Dimera was penned by all of the previous writers (Maggie de Priest/Sheri Anderson/James E. Reilly/Hogan Sheffer), he was often fighting off the Real Eye-For-An-Eye Guy, Stefano Dimera; or he was being impersonated by evil cousin Andre. Only the latest version of Tony penned by Tomlin/Higley was vengeful. It would be more accurate to say he was the “Rewritten eye for an eye guy”. It’s bad enough that the history of Tony Dimera got so convoluted that he is now no longer on our screens; but the writers still can’t let go of their habit of rewriting this character, long after he tragically died by way of pier wood.

Sami/Rafe – I’m trying to care about Sami losing and getting back the baby she only knew was hers for all of one episode. I really am.

  1. And next week Sami will be more interested about poor Rafe's feelings than spending time with her daughter Sydney !! Shame on you writers for destructing Sami's character !
I remember the first time she dumped Ej (yes where they were charming and began to date..) she didn't know he was a Dimera at this time and Samester dumped him because she wanted to spend more time with her son Will ! Gary Tomlin you suck !

Justin and Hope are boring so they need to stop having Justin pine away for her. Hope wants Bo period. Jarly makes a much better match and I would love to see more scenes with these two.

I can now watch a whole scene with Daniel in it and actually enjoy it. SC has been doing a good job lately especially in scenes with CC and MB.

Bo is just annoying me all the way around and Philip is learning from the old man when he said that he is standing by his wife and Bo should learn to do the same.

Anna always bring it whether it be humor or drama. Can we keep her please.

Thank you Diva for giving the Tony mention a whole paragraph. When EJ said that I was like WTF? Tony was never like that until Tomlin come into town. Damn TPTB they need to stop just talking about Tony and bring him back and show us that eye for an eye they are talking about.

  3. Tomlin, Whitsell and Higley have done their best to turn the DiMeras into the three Stooges. We're stuck with writers just as arrogant as JER the last time he was writng...its all about THEM, not the characters or the history or the fans. This show has degenerated into a bad Passions replica.

And Tomlin, you can have EJ spout all you like about your version of Tony but that won't make youtube go away or the fans forget.

  4. I wasn't crazy about the comment but I saw it as EJ trying to justify his own behavior and Anna did correct him immediately and reminded him that when it came to people he loved, Tony was different. And though Tony wouldn't be the one in the family I'd use as an example of "an eye for an eye' but he did his far share of it back in the 80s. Nothing like what EJ is doing, but he didn't let people walk all over him.
