Crystal Chappell chat

Last night, there was a live chat with Crystal Chappell. Mostly it was all about GL and Venice. Here are the DAYS tidbits brought up.

-------------------

Q: Are you nervous about going back to Days considering the fans are outraged about so many veterans being cut? CAN'T WAIT FOR CARLY 2.0!

A: I'm excited about going back to Days. I hate it that so many were cut but I try not to connect the two. Things change quickly. You never know when people are going to come back. This is going to be a lot of fun.

Q: Hey CC! Thanks so much for all that you do. Much love and respect. I’ve been a fan of yours since DOOL. Carly and Vivian have quite the history. Will Carly and Vivian still be at odds?

A: Oh, I hope so, hippie! Don’t know all the details on that, but there’s a lot between the relationship of those two characters and they’re at odds. It’s a delicious relationship! The character (Carly) is coming back for other characters besides Bo and Hope. She’s not being brought back just for them.

Q: Crystal, thanks for doing this tonight, love ya. Can you tell us how you are being brought back to DOOL and for what characters?

A: I'm coming back as Carly? Is that the question? LMAO.

Q: What reason?

A: All I can say is it's a very new Carly.

  1. "CC: All I can say is it's a very new Carly."

ROTFLMAO!! the only thing people are going to recognize about Carly is her name since the writers have decided that history is taboo on this show

  2. And why is she going by Carly Manning? The whole point of the pseudonym was to hide from Lawrence, I do not think she ever legally changed it. Since she married him afterall why not go by her birth name. Oh, that is right, just like Pete and Melissa had a kid and he goes by Horton when even if he took his mother's surname she always went by Anderson. Because the writers are morons, who cannot take the two minutes to search the hundreds of fan and officials sites dedicated to DAYS, or DAYS actors.

Well that says it all right there. I have a feeling Carly fans are going to be very disappointed when Tomlin and Higley ignore history and make Carly into their very own creation. The better not mess with Auntie Viv

  4. For what it's worth, in the Aug. 18 SOD Ken Corday is quoted as saying (in short piece on Aunt Vivian's return) that Vivian will be part of a story with characters she was involved with in the past, especially Victor and Carly.

When CC refers to the "new Carly" or "Carly 2.0" in interviews she's not talking about storyline but rather her intention to add new dimensions (e.g., a sense of humor) to the character. As someone who found Carly 1.0 rather dull, I think that's a good thing.

  5. But TPTB do not allow ad libs and things. IF they did not let the long time vets do it, and fired some for daring to point out things, how can CC expect to do what they were not allowed to do. They fought hard to be like their past characters and it was futile. And a fun Carly sounds as bad as the somber, know it all, friend to all Carly.

  6. I don't know. I think when CC realizes just how the regime of DAYS has changed since the early 90s, she isn't going to like her work environment so well. The place is not what it was in the early 90s. She won't be allowed any input into her character. It's the "just shut up and say your lines" soap set now.

  7. "It's the "just shut up and say your lines" soap set now."

considering that quite a few of those who are touting this return most eagerly, such as Jamey at DC and Nelson, are also the ones ranting constantly about how actors need to shut up and just do their jobs, which to them means act out whatever crap the writers produce, I can't wait to see how Carly 'adding new dimensions to her character' is going to go over. I suspect the hypocrisy I see already is just going to get worse but I've been expecting that.

To have to listen to Jamey and Nelson, who both have minority influences going on about ANYONE just shutting up and "doing their job" is enough to make me want to puke and says quite a bit about their attitudes when it comes to collaboration...in other words, when it conflicts with their agenda or what they like, actors need to shut up and when it doesn't, it's okay.

Can't wait for that to bite them in the ass.

  8. I'm a long-ago DAYS fan who plans to revisit the show when Vivian returns. On the few times I've watched since the return was announced, I was struck by how controlled and lacking in spontaneity much of the acting seems. Of course, it makes perfect sense if the current DAYS truly is a "just shut up and say your lines" soap set.

How depressing. As a Sorel fan from her Santa Barbara days, I hope they don't mess up Vivian's return. Given their track record with vet returns, I guess I should keep my expectations low.

  9. It is also due to the fact the show does not care about acting but prefers looks and youth. Several actors who were fired were as much. So do not expect much. Sorel is older than those fired, and if 40 and 50 is to old, and anyone older tends to be just props, do not expect much other than the occasional tea pouring. And Vivian probably will take in one or more of the obnoxious teens and be a prop to them.

  10. Well, according to GG in his interview with Branco, working at 'Days' appears to be the place to learn how to write and to act. He is quoted as saying... "I didn’t offer a lot of input because we move so quickly on the show. That said, there is a lot of room for improv because scenes change at the very last minute, so we can add things to the script when it warrants it. This role has been a great marriage of acting and writing. I also think Gary knew what my strengths were as an actor. He’ll often say, ‘I like what you did in rehearsal, so do that.'"

Amazing how some got kicked in the teeth for doing that, while others are encouraged to do so. Or is that just a priviledge offered to those who aren't considered vets?

Wish they's improv some actual interest in the current storylines.

  11. Or is GG ass kissing Tomlin the man who hired him. Funny how he is the only one to say that, one of Tomlin's pets. I doubt GG is really rewriting stuff. Not like they did in the 80s, and I doubt he is that deep to change things to a degree that the writers care.

  12. GG gets rehersal time and still sucks? Appears Tomlin isn't quite the brilliant manager I keep hearing about since he's wasting money, giving rehersal time to those whose acting hasn't improved in a decade.

  13. He is brilliant like JERk, he has network suits giving him jobs and he has some folks buying the BS that JERk styling writing and PASS and JERkian DAYS was great soap. He gets money for the crap he does, and has sycophants kissing up to him. I would not mind making the money he does and not do a darn thing. No, I have too much respect for myself, and quality I would not do what he does. But still he is like the tailors from the "Emperor Has no Clothes," he has fooled a bunch of idiots to give him money for nothing, and has made DAYS a fool, like the emperor.

  14. I will watch days but no one can convince me that Carly will be as interesting as Olivia Spencer. Crystal was the best at adding layers to that character and Carly was boring and so was Lawrence. I don't know what Days will come up with but no one can compare to Olivia freaking Spencer! I will never get over losing Otalia I hate CBS and will not watch another CBS show again.

  15. I don't know I think Crystals probably just happy to be in California with her family and have a dressing room, she might try and add some little quirks to Carly but I don't she has much control over the writing. I'd like them to encorporate some form of phobia like claustrophobia from being buried alive but who knows.
