The Infected

Ok, here's my impression about last night's Lost.

I read a preview that the show was about Kate, but it seemed more like it was about Claire to me.  Sawyer escapes the Temple with Jin and Kate following him.  Kate knocks out the two Others that came along including the humorous Justin.  Kate trails Sawyer to the Dharma compound, while Jin goes out on his own to look for the plane/Sun.

Kate finds a distraught Sawyer at the compound.  He tells her on the pier that he was planning on proposing to Juliet.  She apologizes a few times for disrupting his life.  Sawyer says some people are destined to be alone then he tosses the engagement ring into the ocean.  You feel his pain.  But also you feel Kate's pain.  She's truly sorry for him.  IMHO, she's also upset that she's not the love of Sawyer's life. Juliet is.  Kate appears to pack up to leave, while Sawyer is oblivious to her actions.

*spoiler*  Looks like nuLocke visits Sawyer at the compound next week.  Can't wait for that!

During Kate's other reality, the cab driver leaves the cab.  Kate drives while keeping pregnant Claire in the back seat.  Eventually Kate lets Claire leave.  Claire begs for her baggage in the trunk.  Kate leaves.  She finds a mechanic who removes her handcuffs.  It's odd how many people help someone clearly under arrest! Kate sees that Claire's bag was full of baby items.   Kate goes back and talks Claire into accepting a ride to the adoptive couples' house.  Seriously, wtf?  Why would anyone do that?  The adoptive couple stood her up at the airport.  They show up at the couples' door to find the distraught wife who tells Claire that she is separated from her husband and no longer wants the child.

Claire goes into labor.  Kate drives her to the hospital.  Lo and behold, Claire's ob/gyn is creepy Ethan from the island, the doctor who kidnapped her and gave her shots.  Ethan also killed many of the Losties and almost killed Charlie.  Charlie eventually kills Ethan.  Anyway, there's a small panic when the baby's heartbeat isn't detected.  The ultrasound shows a healthy baby.  Claire names the unborn boy, Aaron.  She decides to take medicine to delay labor.  Claire's at 36 weeks.  Cops come in to look for Kate.  Claire covers for her.  Kate thanks her.

Undead Sayid had a rough episode.  lol  Dogen shocks him then puts a hot poker on his chest.   Lennon tells him that he passed the test.  Lennon then tells Dogen that he probably just lied to Sayid, which Dogen confirms.  Dogen conjures up a pill for Sayid to take, and asks Jack to give the meds to him.  Jack gives the pill to Sayid.  Sayid says he trusts Jack.  Jack goes back to Dogen and announces that Sayid did not take the pill and swallows it himself.  Dogen does the Heimlich to get the pill out of Jack.  Dogen then tells Jack it was poison.  He claims that Sayid is infected.  Dogen tells Jack that Sayid is infected like his sister.  The infection that Dogen is alluding to, is the one that happened to Rousseau's crew when they all turned homicidal against her.  I'm not convinced it's an infection.  I got the impression then that her crew was really just being impersonated by the smoke monster.  He impersonates Locke and Christian, so why not her crew?

There was a lot of references towards Rousseau.  Kate almost trips a few booby traps.  The Others tell her they weren't set by Rousseau since she's been dead for years.  Justin almost spills the beans that it's Claire setting the traps.  To recap, Kate knocks out the Others.  Jin goes his own way.  The Others catch up with Jin, and capture him.  Claire shoots them dead.  With her disheveled appearance, you definitely get the impression that Claire is the new Rousseau.  They both had children taken from them to be raised by others.  We're not sure yet why Claire left Aaron, but she's not raising him, that's the bottom line.  They both became recluses.  It's an odd twist.  I'm not sure that I like it though.

In conclusion, I don't buy that Sayid is "infected."  I don't buy that Claire is "infected."  I do like the new ballsy Jack.  He admitted that he didn't trust himself.  I'm glad he's getting some street smarts.  I'm not really interested in what happens to alternative reality Kate.

  1. I think Sahid is infected. BTW, you gotta love that the guy with the granny glasses and all that hair is called Lennon. I do not think they are planning to kill Sahid, the poison is like antibiotics and it just kills whatever thing or organism is taking over.

I have to wonder about Claire. Over at TWoP there has been speculation since Season Five that Claire died when Widmore's mercenaries shot up the Others' compound. And when she appeared in the cabin with Christian I got a definite sinister vibe. Though there could be two Claires, also. Because one of the Christians seemed to help, the one with Locke, and the one in the cabin seemed evil. Maybe Rousseau inhabited her, I did not think that Sawyer, et al had time to bury her and Karl after they were attacked. And it seems that bodies have to be buried a certain way or burned, so as not for something to happen. The Others were very paranoid when they heard that Sawyer killed one of the Others, and that Amy's first husband -- blanking on the name -- and wanted to know if the bodies were buried, and then ran off to bury them.

I agree who helps a fugitive, first the person could easily kill you, second ah HELLO, aiding and abetting means jail time. The Puppet Master, err wrong show, the cabbie saw Claire, he had a description of her, the cops and feds will know she helped said fugitive.

I found Ethan one of the most intriguing parts of the episode. He was delivered by Juliet, and was the first baby born without the fetus and mother dying. He is the child of Dharmaites Horace and Amy. Remember the women and children left on the sub, so he would not have been on the island when it exploded in the one universe. So, did he go live with his Dharma mother on the mainland, thus never been indoctrinated by the Others so that he is just a decent guy? Or eve in this alternative he is sinister and there are still Others who survived -- remember Widmore was kicked off the Island earlier -- and the Others still want Claire's baby.

Jack and Kate still are the things I really do not enjoy about the show. Their episodes the least enjoyable or interesting.

Gotta love James, the guy is heartbroken over Juliet. AND HE BETTER STAY THAT WAY. I still am waiting for that coffee date that IslandJuliet mentioned as she was dying. It seems that there is some latent subconscious knowledge of the other universes -- or at least the the new timeline Losties are getting some impressions, Claire just having the name "Aaron" pop into her head. Ethan mentioning needles.

Okay, that hair style, thus clothes Dogen is definitely Samurai.

Oh, gotta love the nerdy creators. They are major STAR WARS -- at least the original movies. There has been numerous allusions. And last night another. Sahid was tortured, electrocuted, and then dumped at Jack's feet. He said, "They didn't even ask me any questions!" That is take (of course) from THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, when Han is tortured by Darth in Cloud City, and then he says those same words to Leia.

  2. If it was just antibiotics, then why the Heimlich on Jack? If it was medicine, they would have let him ingest it in order to convince him it was safe for Sayid.

So how did deadClaire walk around the jungle with Sawyer, Miles, and baby Aaron? I don't think she's dead. The Losties always had the tradition of burying the dead too. I think it's just tradition, and not a way of preventing their bodies from being taken over. But Christian and Locke were unburied and imitated, so that could mean something. Claire did seem scary in the cabin.

I'm assuming that alternate Ethan may be an ok guy since he grew up with no knowledge of the island. He might feel himself being drawn to Aaron though.

Yeah, I was reading Doc Jensen today at ew.com. He thinks the alternate universe Losties are experiencing deja vu. It would be interesting if they eventually figure out about their island lives.

I didn't catch the Star Wars stuff. lol

I thought of some more stuff today about infections. Rousseau when she captured Sayid in season 1, was concerned that he was infected. She was also paranoid that the Losties and Aaron in particular were infected. Ethan tried to scare Claire into getting shots so that Aaron wouldn't be infected. I think Jack determined that the shots were just vitamin supplements. Desmond shot himself up daily in the Hatch to prevent himself from being infected. He wore the Hazmat suit outside the Hatch to prevent infection. To me, the infection stuff is just a way to keep people from wandering off. I think it's a hoax to scare people, like the monster in the movie, The Village. They used a fictional monster to scare the younger generations from venturing into the woods and discovering the real world.

  3. Gotta love the creators of LOST they actually think us viewers are smart, and that we either will know what their allusions mean or will look them up and find out. Apparently Dogen is named for a 13th Japanese Zen Buddhist priest, and his quotes are rather famous.

    Here is a link, http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Dōgen

  4. Forgot to add, since Dogen is named after someone who was a major force in Zen Buddhist philosophy I cannot see him as a bad guy; thus believe he is not lying about Sahid.
