It baffles me that they would decide to keep Zucker considering NBC had to be purchased to basically keep from going under while he was in charge in any other job he'd be fired.
Forget about his anti-soap bias, but since he has been in charge NBC has been always 4th in the ratings (only the CW is worse, and that is geared at a younger demographics and has fewer shows during primetime).
And remember this is the idiot who thought Leno five nights a week during the 10pm period was a smart move -- sure it saved nearly 100mil by having only one show at 35 but all the other shows are kicking butt at that primetime. And it is also bad for local affiliates because a strong 10 to 11 show means it is more likely that people stick around to watch the NBC's affiliate's late night news.
I am hoping that Comcast is waiting to see how things go, and what happens with Vivendi the French media company which has a minority interest in NBC. I hope Comcast then steps in and not just fires Zucker but much of NBC's executives. Zucker can go back to the evening news or TODAY -- I cannot remember which he was the executive before being promoted, he did well in that capacity but he is terrible in regards to programming. And hopefully the teen obsessions ends, DAYS needs to be geared towards adults, and that does not mean more sex, or more realistic sex scenes, but relationships and situations which people 35 and older care about, and they need to fill the show with over 40 actors, not under 30. There needs to be some but they need to pick the best. And I think NBC needs another soap, because that also might help to get viewers -- but please no JERkian style of soaps, something maybe slightly younger but no less well acted and written.
I had already resigned myself to the probability of Zucker sticking around, but it's depressing news all the same.

Who wants to lay bets that NBC will go down before DAYS does?
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame. I grew up watching NBC in the 80s and most of the 90s. Zucker needs to be fired first for his dumb ass decisions.
