Now I did really like Lawrence, but because he was an interesting addition to J/J's story and a decent villain all around, having tried to kill nearly half-of-Salem. I far preferred Michael to Drake, whom I never could understand. And he was more attractive and a more rounded character than one-note EJ -- and I am not a Lumi person. But without Jack, Jennifer, Steve and Kayla, (and he also caused problems for Shane and tried to kill Julie) what is the point; none of the characters who were part of his story are around, other than Bo. My guess is that CC probably had that as part of her terms to return to the show. But do not see why Carly needs to return. Never saw the chemistry with her and Peter's Bo, nor RRK's Bo, and there is no way that suddenly she and Bo reunite after all these years, when their relationship was flat in the first place, and definitely was not this great love.
But Carly and Lawrence were not on in the 90s. The actors were fired by JERk in 1993, and not much used the first part of the year. Lawrence was a great character, far better than EJ, because at least back then TPTB realized torturing and trying to kill people was not sexy. He worked as a great villain, but the people he was an antagonist towards are gone. Lawrence should have returned in 2006 since he was the one who took Steve, and it was due to Lawrence trying to kill Bo, that Steve got hurt. Jack and Jennifer were the main characters Lawrence went after, he tried to destroy Jack repeatedly, and he raped Jennifer, and used the fact that Jack raped too to get at Jack. Kayla knew Lawrence was behind what happened to Steve and went after Lawrence. These four characters were on back in 2006, now they are not. So there is no point.
As for Carly, she was never a great character. They pushed her too much, she was too perfect: A friend to everyone, in every story, and a doctor like Lexie, the best in every speciality.
But Corday always thinks going after an actor from another show will bring in viewers. That is why Crystal was brought back. And this is silly since the ratings for GL are sad -- it is not aired everywhere -- and I do not think Crystal had that many obsessive fans like those who are fans of the fired DAYS actors, and Matt and Missy, so that there will be many fans tuning in. I think that the only reason Michael is returning is that it is one of the reasons Crystal decided to return.
I don't know Crystals has a lot more fans now due to her lesbian/otalia storyline. I read on her twitter that Carly will not be a spoiler for Bo and Hope and that her character will be different so i'm hoping this will turn out to be good especially with Louise Sorrell being back. I think Michael has a construction business now so I'm betting he'll just be in flashbacks.
Michael Sabatino is a brilliant actor. I just loved to "hate" Lawrence for what he was doing to Bo and Carly back then. He was one of the best villains to ever grace the show. I was really into the show during the Jack/Jenn era and the buried alive storyline. The show was hot. So, I am eager to welcome Chappell, Sabatino, and Sorel back to the show. I am eagerly anticipating what Vivian has in store.

ReplyDeleteAttempting to recreate Passions or turn DAYS into it's 90's version isn't going to get this soap out of the doldrums without firing Tomlin and Higley.
