WTH are EJ's Balls?
Just like the late great Skork campaign of “WTH Are Steve and Kayla”, I have to ask “WTH are EJ’s Balls”? Last year, there was a Hoochie campaign where fans of Stefano, Tony and EJ Dimera all sent balls to the DAYS studio, requesting that the Dimeras please get their balls back. I don’t think we’ll ever see that happen. It’s bad enough that Tony is now dead. It’s bad enough that Stefano Dimera, one of the greatest soap villains of all time, is a doddering babysitting grandpa with high blood sugar. Now EJ, the last standing Dimera, is being spayed and neutered right in front of our eyes. If EJ’s not showing what a loving papa he is onscreen for the umpteenth time, he’s involved in Dimera business offscreen. Nicole has him completely whipped right now. Every once in a while, he’ll yell a bit just to remind us he’s a big bad Dimera and then he slinks back into his cave again. Fans are hoping that if and when the BIG REVEAL ever comes out about Baby Sydney, then we’ll see EJ back in his glory…but I worry that he’s becoming such a woose that it’s all going to turn out to be a crashing anti-climactic bore.
Whether you think EJ is one hot sexy British dish or that he’s just a nasty no-good rapist, one thing is for certain. His character was never meant to be boring. It’s just wrong when Sami opts for the dull-as-dishwater Rafe over EJ. It’s just wrong when Nicole the Golddigger has more brains than he has. I was hoping the whole Johnny Dimera custody battle would lead to some spicy EJAMI bloodfests, accompanied by intermittent scrumps when no one’s looking…but no, I guess that would be too passionate…too much what a successful soap opera is like. Slowly but surely, EJ is being pushed to the backburner. I’d hate to see EJ turn out like Jack Deveraux, meaning that he was a character that used to have teeth and was exciting to watch but then gets backburned and miswritten to the point where the less loyal viewers and the less committed headwriters forget what the character was about in the first place.
James Scott is still one of the most charismatic actors on DAYS right now. Maybe Gary Tomlin doesn’t have the hots for him like he does for Galen Gering or Eric Martsolf, but that’s a poor excuse to blow him off. I caution James Scott fans to fight to keep their man front and center. Best of luck to you.
As far as the reveal goes I have a therory on how that would go down. With Ari preggers and eventually having to go on leave what if we had the reveal and then when Sami tries to get her baby Nicole goes on the run offscreen for a couple months then we see her right as she is about to be caught
ReplyDeleteBlah, did you drink the Koolaid too, Diva? Sorry, but I don't ever want to see EJ with Sami again. The writers wrecked it. The actor chemistry isn't enough to overcome the horrible writing. You say it's wrong for Sami to be with boring Rafe, I agree. But, you don't think it's wrong to have a woman (even a fictional one) pine after the guy who raped her? I don't care how the writers retconned it. C'mon. How gross is that? It's ruined Sami's character.
ReplyDeleteEJ lost his balls long before Nicole put them in her purse, when he was begging Sami to love him and she would reject him over and over. EJ DiMera should not be someone who follows a woman around like a dog and begs.
Labeling Nicole as simply a goldigger is shortsighted. That's like limiting EJ to being called a rapist. There's a lot more to them than that.
I agree with the rest of your post. The writers are doing a number on EJ, along with other characters, and have dumbed him down so much it's hard to recognize him sometimes.
IMO, the show will try and pay everybody less when contarct time comes around. Passions actors will work for food. Just don't eat the apples.

When he was really interested into Sami, maybe he was bad and he begged and he raped but he was also funny, witty, sarcastic : a fun character.
Now he is depressed, sad, he always rants even boring. And for the last time stop with the rape : it is a soap. Everything is crazy, everybody cheat with everybody, try to kill everybody, when one character is dead he can return from the death..Never compare a soap to the reality : it is FANTASY people.
But we want to see fun and entertaining characters and EJ used to be one..not anymore.
The chemistry is the most important thing and the interactions between Sami and EJ are the best when they are together or not.
Anonymous #2, limiting Sami and Ej's relationship to one night is just as shortsighted as labeling Nicole.
ReplyDeleteSami and Ej had a relationship before and continued one afterwards. I also believe that yes, the chemistry (just like Luke and Laura's) can definitly overcome a stupid mistake on the writers fault.
If not, bringing anyone back from the dead because one writer made a mistake and killed them off should never be allowed to happen.

Before he maybe raped and begged (sometimes not always) for Sami's love but he was interesting ! The character actually was funny, witty, sarcastic and clever (he saw very soon when Sami was pregnant with the twins) and now...not anymore..
Stop with the rape for criticize Ej and his relationship with Sami : it is a soap, everything is crasy. People cheat, murder and even when one character die he can raise from the dead. So stop compare these soap events to real life, it's just insane.
For soaps we want fun, entertaining characters and Ej was one but now he is not anymore.
And for the chemistry : it's a major factor in soap couples and even in prime time for the record. And you can't deny that Ej and Sami have undeniable chemistry when they are together or not.
Yes the writers have made a quite good work with Nicole character but she stays pathetic : wanting to be with a guy who doesn't really love her whereas Brady could do everything for her (like hiding her lies..).
We will see what will happen with the baby switch reveal but this storyline is really too slow..
Here's my take how the story should unfold: Once Nicole's switch has played out and Stephano's part in it is revealed..EJ denounces his birthright (again)tries to win back Sammy (again)..Stephano not wanting his empire to be without a true Dimera heir to run it starts diggin into Tony's past all those long years in exhile..... Only to find that boring ol' goody two shoes Rafe is A Dimera!...Stephano plots to make Rafe a TRUE Dimera..Sammy is caught between loving 2 Dimeras..lol either way Stephie boy wins..
