The pace and the storylines suck !
ReplyDeleteEnd of story.
The ratings are in the toilet, how long is Ken Corday going to wait before he gets rid of the biggest problems on this show, Gary Tomlin, Dena Higley & Chris Whitesell have to go, and quickly, before time runs out.
ReplyDeleteHe is oblivious, and never has cared. Even if he did get rid of them it is too late. NBC does not want soaps and I am sure the suits want to cancel DAYS this go around; and CBS canceled two soaps which had been on over 50 years, ABC is talking about cutting 20 episodes per show or maybe in toto, so I do not see them taking DAYS -- but probably would have back in 2003, before Corday caved and let NBC dictate the rehiring of JER which brought DAYS to this point. Corday years ago, back in 1993 should have been a good producer and followed in his mother's footsteps but instead he let people like JER ruin the show, fire talented actors, and in turn write silly, stupid, insulting plots, destroyed the families and did even worse to the supercouples.
ReplyDeleteHopefully THE BAY and shows like it will jump start the soaps, these online sudsers are hiring the vets and seem to be giving the fans what they want, not kowtowing to the suits, and advertisers.
I really don't see web soaps as the answer because how many people are going to want to pay to watch. I won't.
ReplyDeletePeople pay to get shows on iTunes and there is a big business to buy TV shows on DVD, otherwise every show would not put their shows on them. All I read THE BAY is free. And I rather pay a couple of bucks to see a good soap than watch current DAYS. If Net soaps are popular I do not see them staying on the Net long, I think some of the pay networks, i.e. Lifetime, USA, etc., would pick them up. People want soaps, people have not grown out of the, the problem is that the micromanaging by suits from the networks and advertisers who are moving soaps away from their roots.
ReplyDeleteWell I know that Venice charges a 9.99 subscription and they were able to fund most of the first and second season with the amount of people that purchased it. They also held a Venice meet and great with the entire cast, including the new cast members for $150 the room could only hold 350 people and they sold out so thats 52,500 (if my maths correct) thats more than enough money to fund the show. The webseries just need to be creative in how they get their "product" out there.
ReplyDeleteThough I thought that the ultimate goal for these Net soaps is for them to gain viewership to a point that they are marketable to some cable/satellite network. On those they could be repeated often, and the executives are fine with lower ratings and they give their shows more time to catch on and are not cancellation happy, as opposed to networks are.
ReplyDeleteOh it definitely is, though I think I remember Crystal saying she likes having quality control over Venice and fears what network interference could do. But they have to find ways to afford to keep the net soaps going before they can get them on network or cable television. It has to be pretty expensive especially if you want to make it look as professional as possible.
