How not to manage your money

No, the Diva is not giving out financial advice.  But I would like to tell you a story about a certain soap opera who fired five of their biggest stars over money.  Yes, times are tough especially when your show is on a dingbat network such as NBC run by the morons who put mercury into light bulbs and advertising them as being "green."

But that is not the end of the story.  Were you under the impression that every actor on Days of Our Lives took a massive pay cut?  Somehow the financial geniuses at DOOL did not cut three veteran actors' paychecks.  So, we have five actors fired for too high of a pay without giving any of them a chance to even accept a smaller paycheck, yet the show kept three actors who did not take a cut in pay.  Huh? How in the world does that make any sense?  Call me crazy, but wouldn't it make more sense to keep the actors who were willing to work for less than the ones demanding their full pay?  And what about the actors who are currently being paid less now?  They took a cut to keep their jobs, in some cases, a massive cut, but these three are getting paid more than them and did not take a cut.

*rolls eyes*

  2. My guess would be Kristian as the only Horton heroine left is one of them, more than likely Alison although the network may have worked out some kind of deal with the Biggest Loser. My third guess is John Aniston I remember Drake saying in an interview a few months back that the network wouldn't let Reilly fire him because it would piss off Jennifer Aniston, I wonder if they are still trying to suck up to her?

  3. Kristian Alfonso was one of the vets who took a pay cut.

  5. I doubt it was JohnA, he is on recurring so he just gets paid for the episodes he is in, and was one of the folks JERk always fired. Suzanne never made that much in the first place.

  6. Not sure about AS, she has Biggest Loser so the pay cut should not be a really big deal but who knows.. She is the most popular and famous actress on the show (without Deirdre Hall) so maybe she has some influence but i doubt it..oh well maybe..Diva little clues please ! lol

  7. what about Joe Mascolo? he can always get a job at Bold and The Beautiful and the Stephano has always been at the center of the show even when he is "dead"

  8. Well, if the show needed these characters and they weren´t willing to accept the paycuts and still survived, good for them. The show had to make a firm decision what the future will be about and they had to accomodate the money flow according to that. Thaoo was paid two years for absolutely nothing so his leaving was hardly any lost for the show. And Steve/Kayla return failed mostly thanks to Sheffer, so again, no big lose. And finally Jarlena had still their bunch of extreme hardcore fans but they were already way past their peak of popularity and on the way back to (another) reunion which nobody except their hardcore fans cared about. John was interesting when he was separated from Marlena, but the fans never allowed them to really move on so no wonder the writers just got frustrated and there was probably a big relief when Corday finally agreed to write them out. And that´s why nobody ever offered them a paycut. The show was happy to have an excuse they don´t have to bother with them and their ever annoying bunch of fans anymore.

  9. I guess Thaao getting a lead actor Emmy nom, the first in twenty years wasn't significant? On other shows, he would have been rewarded with a major storyline, instead of getting killed off in a lame way.

There's a ton of Skorks. I can attest to that due to my interview with MBE. I liked their initial, then the writers didn't know what to do with them after they reunited, much like Tony and Anna.

Drake and Dee were the two largest pay checks, so it's not that much of a surprise that they were let go. But Drake offered to have his pay cut back to what he was making in 1986.
