  1. Thanks for the opportunity, Diva. It was an excellent chat. Matt was Matt, articulate, insightful and interesting. It was rather bittersweet since it seemed rather final. I am of mixed feelings since I have been so not into DAYS for so long, and got back hopeful with the reboot -- thinking that they finally got religion and realized they had to give the fans what the wanted for it was their last chance. Sadly, it was more of the same, after a few good months. Matt again was disrespected and I felt that it is time he does move on, and find someplace where he is of the same mindset, where people respect him, and he can created something wonderful, which gets attention by a wider audience. But I also have this unresolved feeing that I hate Jack dying, that all Jack's struggles were for naught, that in the end Jack lost out, no real love, no job, no success. And I want that to be resolved.

I waited to read -- I was not going to watch -- the synopses of the memorial. It was not that, it was more about pimping Doc Pervert and JenJen (no longer Miss Horton). So, I am walking away completely. Which means also no longer reading boards or following DAYS related boards. It is too frustrating and it is easier to remember the DAYS I loved.

Thanks for everything. And maybe miracles can happen. At which time I will be back.

    1. I really want Matthew Ashford to move on to another soap why put him through this again unless they have Jack move on past Jennifer I do not want him to return back to grovel to her or beg for him to come back to him anymore I feel that Jack needs to explore life without Jennifer he deserves to move on with someone else for change I am sick of the worshipping Jennifer she is disgusting and bad role model for Abby and Jack jr as parent. I really won't be surprise if Jennifer sleeps with Daniel thinking it is Jack hallunting or something I am sick of her excuses moving on when Jack has not been bury or gone for that long. Jennifer is not innocent victim anymore I think it is time Jack let Jennifer go and move on she is nothing like Alice Horton anymore. I will not be surprise if she ends pregnant by Daniel I do not want Jack to even bother to take her back either she can marry Daniel leave the show for good. I do not think that Jack an Jennifer will be end game anymore.

  2. Yeah, it doesn't sound like anything's in the works for MA to return Days. Sad. And I'm with you CalAggie---nothing else on the show is of much interest to me. But thank you so much, Diva, for giving me a chance to talk with Mr. Ashford. :)

  3. Very nice interview. Matt will survive and flourish no doubt. He's too talented not to.

It's a shame that Matt Ashford's respect for his costars and his classiness is not shared by all who claim to be his supporters. Nasty lies and comments about Melissa Reeves will not get Matt rehired, I doubt that someone as classy as Matt appreciates this sort of thing and I doubt the vast majority of his fans do either. As a fan of the actor and the character I certainly don't.

  4. Matt Ashford seems like a nice guy but Jack isn't the be all, end all of the show. For everyone who wishes they'd kept Jennifer and killed Jack there are people who are love Jennifer and are glad Jack is dead. It's just a soap, people!

  5. Nothing against Matt Ashford but I never liked Jack. Glad Jack is done. I hated his fantasies and talking to his dead father and all that silly stuff.
I wish Matt luck on his new show. He was good on OLTL.

  6. Well, silly to you. But not to most fans. But you have to look into the deeper meaning of Jack's "silly fantasies." To intellectualize their meaning. This was Jack's way, and the writers' way, of getting into Jack's psyche. Jack's inner turmoil, he battling his demons. Jack did some horrible things and hated himself for it, he did not believe he should be happy as a result. Also, it was the whole issue of nature or nurture. Is a person formed by genetics or by how one is raised. With Jack he was damned on both accounts. His biological father, Duke, was an abusive drunk, who raped his own daughter. He was raised by a cold, corrupt politician, Harper, who in turn became a psychotic serial killer.

  7. Diva - thanks for a great interview.

I have a house near the Ogunquit Playhouse, it's a lovely theater with an impressive history - many famous names have played there over the years.

Just a thought but it's possible for someone not to like the character of Jack without needing to be schooled in why Jack was an awesome character. People form their own opinions based on what they see on screen and how they feel about it. It's what makes soaps fun - some people love a character, others hate them. They don't need a "lesson" in Days of Our Lives history to "set them straight."

    1. I don't see what's wrong with someone responding with a defence of Jack any more than someone expressing a negative opinion of the character. That's conversation. Anyway, I love Jack, but I know there are people who don't. That's okay. The thing is, Jack's a real character not one of these run of the mill basic soap guys, and that, I think, makes him a much more valuable asset to Days than Rafe, Daniel, Brady, Chad, Cameron or any of these characters who just seem to have come off a conveyor belt.

    2. It's one thing to offer an opinion, as you have and, as you say, that's a conversation. It's another to tell someone their opinion is not reflective of "most fans" (who knows what most fans think) and imply that the other party hasn't really looked into the deeper meaning of Jack. Maybe they have, maybe they haven't. It's their opinion just like any one else's. Their opinion doesn't need to be converted. If someone else sees something deep in Jack's fantasies, then share that. It doesn't require an implied or overt swipe at someone else's opinion.

I like Jack and I think he had more potential, over the years, than a Rafe or a Daniel.
If someone thinks Rafe is the cat's meow and that he has some complicated inner life, then rock on.

    3. Well, I guess I see the response differently than you do. I do think the response shares what the poster sees as being something deep with regard to Jack's hallucinations, which I think is completely appropriate. As to the "most fans" thing, yeah, I suppose that's speaking for other people, though Jack was arguably the most popular character on the show back when he was having Harper/Duke hallucinations. Also, I think Ashford/Jack fans are feeling a bit raw. I know I feel pretty burned.

I suppose if someone thinks Rafe is the cat's meow, that person is in luck. Personally, I can't decide if Rafe or Daniel is more lacking in depth, and I think it's some sad commentary on DAYS that those two have survived on the show for this long. So it would seem that I am not so much in luck when it comes to DAYS. Oh, and I meant "defense"--how embarrassing. :)

    4. LOL, don't worry. If typos could kill, I'd have been dead years ago.

Totally get where you are coming from and no worries on any front. I can understand why Ashford/Jack fans would be feeling a bit raw. Days does know how to reel fans in with what they say they want and then mess with our heads.

I still don't understand why the show doesn't have more recurring actors. Why not just let Jack go on assignment and come back every now and then instead of killing him off?

  8. You're welcome.

To the crazy Jack fan, PLEASE STOP POSTING HERE. IT IS NOT GOING TO HELP BRING MATT BACK. IF YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED, I HAVE BEEN DELETING YOUR COMMENTS FOR OVER A MONTH NOW. GET A FUCKING LIFE.

    1. I'm curious, dear crazy Jack fan, how does this help? We all get that you love Jack and hate Jennifer. Are you trying to get Matt Ashford and Melissa Reeves to take out restraining orders against you? That's about all you can hope to achieve by harassing someone who runs a blog and tries to give Days fans a place to hear from their favorite actors.

  9. Does everyone forget he raped Kayla?!

    1. Of course I don't forget that Jack raped Kayla. The build up to that and then Jack's redemption afterward, that was the best stuff I've ever seen on soap opera, and I'm sorry the show tried to thoroughly bury it. During Jack and Jennifer's most popular years, the rape was very much a part of their story, and Jack's opinion of himself because of it was their biggest obstacle.

    2. I haven't. I liked Jack but he was a rapist. No amount of redemption takes that away.
