  1. Superb interview, smart ass actor this Matt Ashford, thnak you thank you Diva of Dool.

He kind of told off these bitter people who trash online actors because they don't like what their FICTIONAL characters are doing on-screen..and still Matt was too kind, their behaviour is just pathetic to say the least..but i am glad awesome Matt Ashford kind of tell it like it is about this subject.

Also agree that this 'supercouple' bs is killing soaps, of course you can have one real love but still you can also have other loves, when you have children and loved this person once you will stay connected most of the time..it is like that in real life why not on soap life ?
Moreover it makes a character far more multidimensional, it give diverse kind of material for actors and allow to develop different storylines.

I started to watch the Bay because of Matt Ashford, and now i am hooked..i can't wait for the next season and great great cliffhanger by the way with Sara and Steve..i am so happy to watch Marybeth and Matt working together again..the relationship between their characters seem pretty twisted but oh so interesting and fascinating, can't wait to know more about it..it seems it will be more a kind of Heathcliff/Cathy type of relationship than a Jack and Kayla type of relationship which was very dark and also interesting but quite limited after a while..if it is more Wuthering Heighs there is more potential for a love story anyway we will see..

Matt is very kind about how Days dealt with him, i like his post trauma story but it was never really developped, still he had some really really powerful scenes with Jen and Marlena..i miss him already on-screen, if he wants to come back on Days (and i mean he has to be the one to decide not Days TPTB at the end of the day, they screwed up him enough although it is the nature of this business..therefore if they have a great story for his character : LET'S GO !) i will watch of course, i am not fan of Gary tomlin work, last year his storylines were atrocious but maybe without Dena Highley he will make great work and finally write a great story for Jack..let's hope.

Hope to see very soon your futur projects Matt, you are a very talented actor who can create fascinating characters even on medium like daytime soaps where most of the time writing and characters are quite corny..

p.s: i like that everytime somebody talk to him about a potential Nicole/Jack pairing he wants Sara Braun/Madison instead..lol Nothing against Nicole (her portrayer is a dynamic, good actress) but folks like Eve, Kate , Billy or even Sami would have been better for Jack.

I'm sorry, but that's just not true. In life, we only have one soulmate. We only have one true love. There is only one person we are meant to be with. Days needs to focus on epic supercouple romance, not try to be "realistic". Watching Days should feel like reading a romance novel. Jack and Jennifer belong together forever. Until Jack returns and reunites with his one-true-love Jennifer, I won't be watching.

    2. If Jennifer and Jack aren't going to be together, I'd rather one of them be off the show. I'd rather have Jennifer mourn Jack than have him be alive and separated. Simply put, though, the majority of fans want Jack and Jennifer TOGETHER. This is another example of how they alienate their loyal viewers. No wonder the ratings are down! For the past 6 years, the writers can't be trusted to ever give fans the payoff we deserve.

    3. If Jack and Jennifer are not going to be together and I really cannot stand Jennifer anymore her love for Jack is phony just like actress herself. I think that Jack needs to be in Salem and they need to kill Jennifer off for once she is the most annoying bitch on the show now I am sick of pairings all failed on her she is boring and pathetic she had her shining moment already I do not care if Jennifer is Horton or not she is no innocent victim anymore she has no sex appeal either. I think Jack needs to be alive and he has more storyline potential than her no one cares about her and Daniel or any new man she is boring by herself too. I am sick of these writers sympathizing with her I do not feel sorry for her anymore because she always has man waiting for her after Jack leaves or die she is no mother of year either. Between Jack and Jennifer I would rather Jack stays on the show have his storyline and go into darkside again after losing Jennifer and everything he is better at it than her she is phony bitch I do not care for her character anymore she is dull. I do not care if Jack and Jennifer are together or not I would love to see Jack be done with Jennifer move on without her I do not want her die I want bad karma to hit her really hard after her latest behavior towards Jack she is so pathetic.

  2. Thanks for the interview. Very interesting. I wish Gary Tomlin would use all the potential story for Jack (as well as for Jack and Jennifer), rather than kill Jack off again.

  3. Not sure how anyone can be anti-supercouple. When Days started doing away with supercouples, that's when I started tuning out. With my fave supercouple, Carrie and Austin, leaving, and Jack (one half of another fave supercouple) exiting soon after, there is no need to tune in. MarDar also managed to break up Patch and Kayla, and even invalidated the long-standing marriages of Bo/Hope and John/Marlena.

I watch soaps for romance. I want to see true love conquer all! That's what attracts me to supercouples. Supercouples reinforce the TRUTH that love conquers all. Certain couples are meant to be. They are meant to be together forever. They are soulmates. They are true love. That's Jack and Jennifer. I refuse to watch her (or him!) with anyone else.

I vote with my remote, and I know other fans do as well. That's why Days' ratings suck. They won't write romance for the couples we are invested in. Bring back the supercouples and you'll bring back the ratings.

    1. Matt Ashford and myself can agree to disagree with you.
Moreover i said that you can have a 'soulmate' or real, true love whatever you want to call it although not everybody find it but it doesn't forbid you to have other loves, romances in your life, you can love different persons in different ways at different stages of your life. Yep it is realistic to portray these real facts on-screen and also more interesting and groundbreaking for many of us who want complex, interesting storytelling to watch.

    2. You can only ever have one love. Any other "love" is second-rate, sloppy seconds, pales in comparison. You don't understand the first thing about soap operas and clearly weren't watching this show in the 80s and 90s. Now Jim Reilly, HE knew how to write true love and romance with epic supercouples. What you want to see is not, and has never been and never will be, Days of Our Lives. Stick to your silly websoaps and leave the real soap opera to real fans.

    3. I love the "one true love" thing. I don't see any reason to use the supercouples, who had such powerful love stories, for the partner swapping, one shallow love interest after another, stuff that currently dominates the show. There are plenty of other characters for that if they must play it that way, but the shallow characters who just move from one person to another bore me anyway. I want the epic, overcome it all love story. Jack and Jennifer still have tons of potential that went unused this time. Sad. I'm not interested in watching Jack die and Jennifer move on again. And why play it that way (how many times have we seen Jennifer move on because Jack dies or whatever?), while refusing to use the potential drama that could have been really good between Jack and Jennifer?

    4. If anyone needs to die it should be Jennifer for change let Jack move on with his life with someone else or go into darkside and fight for mayor position and he does not need love interest either he does not need Jennifer to be interesting either, Jack/Matthew can handle storyline without Bitchifer. I only care about Jack now, Jennifer I really do not care for her that much she is major snoozefeast she can have her boring life with Daniel for all care. I am tired the writers thinking Jennifer is more compelling than Jack that is not true she is major boring bitch they should have send her packing not Jack.

    5. Me, Myself, and I like Matt and myself said you can have 'one true love' thing but it doesn't forbid you to live other stories and other loves; life, even fictional life is multiple and colorful, not some boring monolith. Like Matt said they have some potential stories and drama with Jack moving on and having some conflict and of course still loving connection with Jennifer as an ex-wife he has children with.

    6. Anonymous, you are so out of touch with what the fans what. We don't want to see Jack and Jenn having an "exes" relationship. We want them together and married! The characters are dynamic enough that being married doesn't stop them from having drama and conflict in their stories. Jack and Jenn are way too mature for love triangles. Save that for the youngin's and write the supercouples as grown adults. What you're interested in seeing, Anonymous, spits in the face of romance and true love.

    7. Matt Ashford and me disagree with you Alistair, deal with it and move on !

  4. Me, Myself, and I: I totally agree with you! The supercouples are way beyond love triangles, cheating, and adultery. Save that for the young characters like Chad, Gabi, and Abby, and characters who aren't part of a supercouple, like Nicole, Rafe, EJ, etc.

    2. Anonymous, you are wrong. Sami and Lucas the supercouple, not Sami and her rapist.

      Delete
    3. we can agree to disagree Sami is as much a part of a supercouple with her 'rapist' (it was not to me by the way) as with her attempted murderer (it was this time)..ah soaps lol

  5. Sometimes Jennifer is cheating whore there is no excuse for her behavior she acts like 40 year old teenager and she has daughter who is teenager already who more mature than her. Jack and Jennifer are not old they maybe Supercouple but I am sick of Jennifer pairings it has been done too many times I would rather Jack have new love for change and let Jennifer stay with Daniel till she realize he is not all that great and she has to fight to get Jack trust and love back again. If Jack comes back I do not want to see him grovel for her or prove his love to her anymore because she done nothing for him but cause pain and hurt. Jennifer needs to redeem and fall of her pedestal stop acting like innocent victim all the time.

    1. Jen can have other pairings but Jack can have some too, that's all, let's them live as characters not as some entity.

  6. That would never happen. Missy Reeves is a favorite of Corday, and he thinks that he can put her with any actor and it would work. Let's see, other than early teen Frankie/Jennifer all failed: Emilio, Hawk, they even tried Austin in 1993, Peter, Brandon, Colin, a little time Patrick, Frankie, Dan. Jennifer has been more than annoying much of the time since 1991, but she is always made the saint, and woman all men want. They really should have had Jennifer deal with what she has done, her propensity to jump in relationships, and bed with any man who is around. Jennifer was hateful to Jack, and it was swept away. Matthew was a gentleman defending Jennifer, but she should have had to deal with her remarks about Jack not being happy, and thus she not wanting to be in that type of a relationship. Was not Dan running off due to his shakey hands, which is nothing compared to Jack's torture and PTSD. Matthew does drama and emotion well. I think it would have been so much better it that Jack had to deal with something happening to Jennifer, with his PTSD, maybe some undeserved guilt. Jack would not have had to even be thrown in a relationship. Sadly, TIIC seem to think that Jack is not appealing to women, which is offensive since it seems to imply Matthew is not hot enough -- when for me he is more so than most men on DAYS, especially SC. But it would never happen. Jennifer will move on immediately. I guess they will have Dan a victim of Nicole, because the poor guy is so innocent and decent, he was a victim of evil Chloe too. And hurt by Jennifer. And Jennifer will realize she just went with Jack out of nostalgia and guilt over his PTSD. But I will not have to deal with that. After Matthew's last day I will quit, and will cease to read anything DAYS related on the boards.
