Matt Ashford wins over Toronto critic

Toronto's thestar.com critic, Richard Ouzounian, seemed to enjoy Matt Ashford is the MAMMA MIA tour, stating that "Matthew Ashford is probably the most original and charming of all the Bill Austins I’ve encountered, substituting sly style for boorish bravado."  The rest of the article wasn't nearly so complimentary as can be witnessed here.

More of Charles Shaughnessy in TV Guide

More of the Michael Logan interview with Charles Shaughnessy, including some spoilers here.

May Sweeps video

It actually looks pretty good.

"Why do I get the eyebrow?"

For real Julie?  That's the first time Hope's given you the 'eyebrow'?  lol

EJ/Lexie/Nicole/Arianna.  Lexie's still concerned about EJ's attack.  Nicole tells Arianna to convince EJ to grant her an interview.  Arianna gets him to agree.  Lexie gets all bitchy about Nicole's Sydnapping.  Nicole reminds Lexie she slept with Brandon.  wtf?  How is that relevant?  Why not bring up Lexie passing Hope's son off as hers?  That would make more sense.  Nicole gets her interview with EJ.  EJ refers to her as "Nikki."  lol  EJ drops the bomb that he knows who attacked him.

I'm liking Nicole's new job.  She's perfect for it.

Baker/Bernie/Hope.  Baker owes Bernie money at the Cheatin' Heart.  Baker gives him a down payment.  Baker sees Hope at the pier-o-whacks, which is not the same as the pier-o-death as per Tony, Hope says she doesn't recognize him, but gives him the 'eyebrow' when she somewhat seems to remember him.

Hope/Julie/Hope's doctor.  Julie lectures Hope about sleep medications.  Hope insists she's not addicted.  Julie encourages Hope to take a leave of absence from work to deal with Ciara's kleptomania.  Hope refuses.  Hope gets her doctor to refill her perscription.  I'm starting to like this storyline.  It would be nice to have DOOL do a prescription medicine addiction storyline.

Kate/Will/Chad/Madeline/Mia.  Kate and Will have a chat.  Madeline tells Chad to move the location of the study group from the DiMansion to some place less nefarious.  Madeline drops in at the DiMansion to threaten Kate.  Madeline does not want Chad anywhere near the DiMeras.  Will and Chad have their study group at the Java Cafe. Mia thinks that they are talking about her, they are, but not in flattering ways.  lol  Chad's not interested in Mia anymore.

Overall, not a bad eppy.  I'm loving investigative reporter Nicole.  She even makes Arianna seem interesting.  Hope's pill popping has me interested too.  Still don't care about the teen scene.  NuWill is doing well, good for him.  I love seeing Kate v any woman, hopefully this Madeline story won't suck.

Tuesday's eppy

The show was pretty good today.  It's more of a sign of better things to come.

Viv/Carly/Gus.  Viv confronts Carly at the hospital calling her a homewrecker.  Carly's confused.  Chloe apologizes to Carly at the hospital and at the Java Cafe.  Viv and Gus discuss how her latest plan blew up in her face.

Phloe/Dan/Mel.  Chloe wants to confess to Dan, but doesn't.  Phloe talk about their romp a lot for two people who think it's a mistake and don't want anyone to know.  Melanie and Dan are cute together as father/daughter. Their relationship makes them both more likable.

Stephanie/Nathan.  They are at the Cheatin Heart.  Nathan says he's over Melanie.  Adrienne and Steph have a heart to heart while Nathan gets called to the hospital.  Some how, he ends up outside the Java Cafe eavesdropping on Chloe and Phil on the phone again talking about their hook up.

Rafe/Stefano.  Holy cow.  Even Stefano can't make Rafe tolerable.

Ejami.  Sami finds EJ unconscious at the pier with the fake, silk flowers in the background.  I've never seen a pier before with fake flowers.  EJ passes out. Sami gives him mouth to mouth.  They eventually kiss.  Paramedics come for EJ.  Later, Sami mentions the kiss without saying exactly what they did.  EJ has no memory of the kiss.  Rafe is eavesdropping.

Dr. Baker.  Did I catch that?  His first name is Dick?  Well that's appropriate.  So Dick gets a buddy to help him get money out of EJ's bank account via his stolen debit card.

Lexie sighting!  Lexie is freaking out over EJ's attack.  I'm not sure why.  He's fine.  She calls Stefano and he comes over with his snazzy green tie.

Daniel/Phil.  Daniel threatens Phil if he hurts Melanie.  Wow. I even like Daniel as a father-in-law.

I'm glad to see the show is improving.  The Danloe/Carly/Viv/Phloe/Mel/Nathan/Stephanie storyline actually looks pretty good.  Can't wait for the shizz to hit the fan.

John Martin as Bill Horton

Soap Opera Digest can report exclusively that John Martin, who is best known to soap fans as Y&R's Frederick (2002-2005) and SUNSET BEACH's Hank (1997-1999), has been cast as Bill Horton for the upcoming on-air farewell to Frances Reid (ex-Alice) in June. The previous actors to play Bill — Ed Mallory (1968-1976) and Christopher Stone (1987-88; 1994) — have sadly both passed away. Martin briefly appeared in Salem in 1985 as a character named Robert.

Here's the last scenes between Kim and Shane in 1992:

Wally Kurth gets animated!

According to CBS SID, Wally will be doing the voice of an animated character on Generator Rex on the Cartoon Network. You can hear Wally on Friday on Generator Rex.

Daytime Emmy awards date/location announced!

CBS Soaps in Depth breaks the news.http://cbs.soapsindepth.com/latebreakingnews/

"You have the magic touch."

The Diva will be the judge of that!

Thursday's eppy some stuff actually happened, yet it was still kind of blah.
EJ/Sami/Johnny.  Sami can't get Johnny to go to sleep.  She calls EJ for help who puts the little rascal to bed with ease.  Cute flirting and banter.  Sami says that Lucas came to pick up Allie and take her to Hong Kong.  EJami discusses boring Rafe.  EJ asks Sami and the kids to move in with him.

Hope/Justin/Dr. Baker.  Hope lies to Justin that she's going to bed while they yell at each other through the door.  Hope goes to a poker game and wins big.  Dr. Whohasnofirstnameapparently Baker wants her to buy him a drink.  I don't care.  lol  Some chemistry between Kristian Alfonso and John Callahan, that was a bit unexpected.

Phil/Melanie/Nathan/Justin.  Phil goes to Maggie's house to get Melanie.  Melanie's too busy smooching with Nathan.  Melanie finally confesses what was in her letter to Nathan.  Melanie still chooses to stay with Philip.  Phil goes back to the mansion to drink and shake his long hair loose.  Justin tries to find out what's wrong.  Phil blows him off and heads to the pier.  Philip's classy.  He has a golden flask.  lol  He shows up at Chloe's door.

Chloe/Viv/Greg/Gus.  Chloe asks Greg the nurse where Daniel and Carly are.  Viv bribes the man to tell her that Darly are at the no-tell motel.  The no-tell motel owner eventually confirms Greg's story.  Chloe goes home devastated.  Maybe the Diva is just mean, but I found Chloe's heartbreak to be funny.  I just can't get into Chloe's pain.  I'm just not feeling it.  I don't feel sorry for her at all.  Gus warns Viv that her scheme to get Chloe to harm Carly might be exposed.

Carly/Daniel.  Daniel's surgery was a success.  Now the poor guy only has to suffer with seeing one Carly, one Melanie, and one Chloe instead of two.

A lot of reveals happened today, but I just don't care.  Most of it is the writing, the acting isn't helping either.  I don't care who Melanie ends up with.  I don't care that Chloe thinks Daniel is cheating.  I do hope that Sami moves in with EJ, because that would be fascinating.  Kate/Stefano/EJ/Sami under the same roof with no Rafe?  Priceless!  NuHope's adventure is ok so far.  It's better than having Hope being heartbroken over her cheating husband.

4/21/10 review - Princess Gina the Pill Popper

Ciara/Hope – Like Mommy, like daughter -- both Hope and Ciara are going through personality changes. Ciara's becoming a little sticker thief while Hope seems to resemble a pill popping version of Princess Gina.

Victor/Carly/Justin– Victor protests Daniel’s operation; later he protests Justin's feelings for Hope. Justin advises Brady to work on his relationship with Arianna.

Chloe/Vivian/Father What’s His Name – Vivian continues with her plan to drive Chloe to murder Carly. Chloe has her obligatory conscience-purging discussion with Father What's His Name.

Abe/Nicole/Arianna – Nicole and Arianna find out they are working together; and it ain't pretty. Nicole interviews Whacked-Out Abe in a rude way before Arianna stops her. I like Nicole in her new job as bitchy reporter; more of a throwback to the old days when she was a ruthless and ambitious business executive.  I like Nicole much better as a bitch rather than a victim.

4/20 recap - Whacked Again!

Sorry.  A little too pressed for time lately to do a full-blown review, but here's a little recap.  Feel free to give your own review in the comments.

Melanie/Nathan/Lexie/Stephanie – Nathan’s upset about losing a patient. Nathan and Melanie are given the third degree by Lexie. Abe was whacked by the Salem Serial Whacker!

Hope/Abe/Adrienne – Adrienne and Hope have a showdown over Justin. Good Justin and Adrienne scene where they have a talk about their relationship (about the only part of the show I enjoyed today).

Rafe/EJ – Rafe and EJ have a showdown over Sami. Anna Dimera was reported to be in custody after being grabbed in Morocco, but Stefano told EJ that the Anna in custody was an imposter.

Stefano/Sami/Kate – Sami and Stefano have a showdown over Sydney – along with a Marlena mention.

Leann Hunley's cousin on DOOL next week!

Share
According to Leann's post on her guestbook, her cousin will be on Monday's episode.  His character attempts to buy the Cheatin' Heart off of Adrienne Kiriakis.  Leann's cousin's name is Blake Reed.

4/14/10 review - Ring Around the Rosy

Today’s episode was another underwhelmer.

Melanie/Stephanie/Philip/Nathan – Philip overhears about The Letter. Nathan reveals that he thinks about Stephanie a lot. At the time when he boinged her at the ski lodge a few months ago, she was a bit of an afterthought however. And after Philip boinged Melanie, he still thinks about what Nathan means to Melanie. Ring around the rosy, a pocketful of posies…et cetera.

Stefano/Kate – Stefano worries about EJ being late with the kids, threatens that EJ is “dead to me” if he doesn’t bring the kids, yada yada yada.

EJ/Sami – Sami tells EJ no freakin way is he taking the kids to Stefano’s. EJ says that Stefano is very ill and doesn’t have much time left. He then takes the kids to Stefano’s without Sami’s permission. Sami goes to see the kids off so that we can all be treated to another heartwrenching goodbye with Sami as she leaves the kid overnight with Grandpa Steffy. Yawn.

Rafe/Roman/Arianna – Rafe is no longer suspected of being the Salem Serial Whacker. Arianna tells him not to give up on helping Sami. Zzzzzzzzzz…

Finally! Taylor Spreitler out

Finally the show is seeing the light on the lack of talent in the teen department.  Taylor Spreitler (Mia) has been fired according to SOD.  Mia will be leaving town.

Scroll down to read about Melissa Reeves' return and Arleen Sorkin's memories of Frances Reid.

Good luck to Taylor in her future endeavours.

Michael T. Weiss (ex-Mike Horton, DAYS; Jarod, PRETENDER) attended the Atlantic Theater Company Spring Gala in NYC celebrating its 25th year anniversary.  The cheapest price to attend the event?  A cool grand!

Everyone loves Hurley

Share
Even Hummels love Hurley.

Like a lot of Lost eppies, the show was a bit of a bummer until the last five minutes.  Yes I love Hurley too, but there's no real mystery about him.
Ilana is hell bent on blowing up the plane.  The dumb ass gets really careless with the dynamite totally disregarding Hurley's warning, then KABOOM!  She's gone.  I have to say, I laughed my ass off when she died, like I did when Dr. Arzt went kaboom in season 1.  Ilana was useless.  She was honest enough to admit she didn't know what the hell she was doing.  The team that was supposed to save Jacob and protect the candidates are all dead.  Some team Jacob assembled huh?  Ilana was cocky, and thought she couldn't be killed off.  They should have let Jack handle the dynamite since the dynamite refused to blow him up a few episodes ago.  The candidate camp has been meandering and leaderless since they first assembled.  Jack doesn't know what to do.  Ben doesn't know what to do.  Richard's faithless.  Hurley is mostly faking it.  Yikes.  NuLocke shouldn't have any problems with these morons.

In the sideways world, Hurley is a franchised restaurant owner/philanthropist.  Don't you wish more lottery winners were like him?  His mom is mad that he can't get a girl.  She sets him up on a blind date the next day with Rosalita.  Instead, Hurley meets Libby who declares them to be soulmates before her doctor whisks her away in the St. Rosa's mental hospital van.  The next day, Hurley compulsively starts eating chicken when Des appears to encourage him to seek out Libby.

Hurley bribes the doctor into letting him see Libby.  We see the familiar St. Rosa's game of Connect 4 being played.  Hurley asks Libby out on a date.  Hurley takes her to the beach picnic they were denied in season 2 when Michael shot her twice in the stomach when Libby went to fetch blankets.  Libby kisses Hurley which brings on the island flashbacks.  Hurley tells Libby she is not crazy since he is having these memories too.  Des watches the couple from his car. He happily drives off.

Team Candidates decide to go back to Black Rock to get more dynamite.  Ben tells everyone that Ilana's death proves that once the island is done with you, it's really done with you.  Ben wonders what is going to happen to them when the island is done.  Hurley somehow raced off ahead and blows up the ship.  It reminded me of  Locke blowing things up to prevent escape from the island.  He blew up Mikhail's station and the sub.  Richard decides to go get dynamite from Dharmvaville.  Hurley lies that Jacob tells them to go to Locke and chat with him.  Ben and Miles leave with Richard.  Jack, Sun, and Frank leave with Hurley.  Jack knows that Hurley is lying.  They hear the whispers.  Hurley runs off to find ghost Michael again.  Michael said it was the ghosts of the dead who are trapped like he is.  He wants Hurley to tell Libby he's sorry for killing her.  Funny how no one thinks Michael killing Ana Lucia is as bad as him killing Libby.  The Michael scenes were a total waste.  He tells Hurley not to get killed.

Back at Camp nuLocke, Sayid takes nuLocke to a tied up Desmond.  Locke asks Des who he is, Des says he's John Locke.  nuLocke seemed really surprised by that answer.  I don't know if that means that Des sees the real Locke in nuLocke or if Des fried a few brain cells in the electromagnetic cabin.  Des knows that Locke is dead.  NuLocke and Des take a stroll through the jungle.  The jungle boy shows up to unspeakably remind nuLocke that he can't kill Des.  Des sees the boy.  nuLocke is super irritated.  lol  nuLocke takes Des to a well.  He tells Des that it was dug by hand by some people who were looking for answers, not water.  Soon as you saw the well, who didn't know Des would find the bottom of it?  Apparently Des didn't know.  Des seems to have lost his fear factor.  He has no fear of Locke and says so.  Locke of course throws him down the well.  I think that's the issue with Des.  He lost his sense of fear, which is a bad thing.  Of course Des will survive because we see Sayid holding a gun on him in the previews.

In the most shocking bit at the end of course, Desmond runs over Locke in the wheelchair.  After some silly chit chat with Ben over having his son "Charlie" attend Ben's school, Desmond hits Locke with his car on purpose.  There's multiple scenarios for this violence.  Des is getting revenge on Locke for Locke throwing him down the well, or Des is trying to wake Locke up to his island life, or Des thinks that the MIB is living as Locke in the sideways world and is trying to kill him, or Des is trying to reunite Locke with Jack via back surgery.  Des seems to enjoy the act of violence.

On the island, Hurley approaches nuLocke and asks for peace to talk.  Locke agrees of course.  Frank, Sun, and Jack walk into the camp.  Jack is scared shitless.  Locke is very pleased, but only acknowledges Jack.  He says Locke's familiar greeting to Jack, "Hello Jack" with a grin.

Other than the end, the show definitely wasn't as good as the Des episode.  But finally we got almost everyone in the same place.  Next week should be good.

Spoilers:  Ana Lucia is supposed to be back.  Rumor has it she's Miles' sideways girlfriend.  Ben gets a love interest.  There's rumors of a lot of deaths coming up, real tearjerkers.

4/13/10 review - A Day of Resentment

EJ/Stefano – EJ resents that Stefano is blackmailing him to bring Johnny and Sydney into the mansion. Sami resents that EJ would even consider it.

Chloe/Carly/Daniel – Chloe resents Carly for moving in with her and Daniel; then she resents Carly for giving Daniel a baby when she can’t.

Sami/Kate – Sami resents Kate because Will is moving in with her.

Melanie/Stephanie – Melanie resents Stephanie for reading The Letter. Stephanie resents Melanie for working at the hospital again.

Madeline/Chad/Kate/Adrienne/Justin/Roman/Philip – Justin resents the Salem Serial Whacker who whacked him one. Adrienne resents Justin for having a thing for Hope and leaves him at the hospital. Carly and Adrienne decide they don’t really resent each other after all and become roomies.

4/12/10 review - Another Day, Another Scrump

Nicole/Brady/Arianna/Chloe - Another day, another Brianna scrump. Another day, another Chloe whinefest about Daniel and Carly. Another day, another Nicole/Arianna squabble about Brady. Even though Arianna says that she can take Nicole on, I’m still convinced that Nicole can kick her ass every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Another day, another Sami whinefest about whatever she has to whine about whatever she can think of to whine about, but kudos to Brady for the John Black mention.
That being said, the rest of the show was pretty good.

Carly/Hope - I'd love to see Carly and Hope get into a Sami/Nicole-style smackdown someday. Watching these two go at it is also a guilty pleasure. Ooooh, no, Carly did NOT just say the “P” word as in…Patrick.

EJ/Sami/Stefano - Stefano tortures EJ by threatening to show Sami the incriminating DVD. “You are so lucky that Samantha is such a stubborn bitch” and “You deceived the ultimate deceiver” were great lines of the day from Steffy. Only Stefano’s fucked up to be proud of EJ about how he pulled off the Sydnapping…and it’s true to his character. Well played, DAYS!

Justin/Adrienne - Trying not to squeeee all over my review every time this couple's on the screen, but I just love seeing them both back on at the same time. Adrienne decides to sell her restaurant. Light moment of playing pool before Adrienne becomes jealous of Justin’s thing for Hope. Nice old school soapy angst…more, more, more!

Sorry the review's a day late.  Real life is getting entirely too intrusive these days.

Missy's Back!

FancyFace Picks 4/5 to 4/9

WINNER OF THE WEEK: Will Horton. It was nice to see someone call Sami on her crap. At least, he is not snowballed into thinking she is always the poor put-upon victim. He lived through Austin and Lucas and Brandon and EJ and Rafe, etc.; and he had to put up with all of Sami’s shenanigans over the years and won’t swallow her garbage. Also, it’s much more interesting seeing him in scenes with adults than the others who are his own age.

LOSERS OF THE WEEK: Nathan/Stephanie. I don’t know who I’m more annoyed with in this whole flipflopping for the rest of all time relationship. Nathan -- who seems to be stringing Stephanie along while he’s always glancing at Melanie? Or Stephanie -- who knows what he’s doing but is so desperate that she’s putting up with him anyway? I don’t find Nathan a particularly interesting character. At first, he had a sort of charm, but over the months, has completely lost all of it. Stephanie spends most of her time whining while being on a moral high horse about all the other characters around (Could you imagine her with Rafe? OMG!) Every year could be DAYS’ last; why are they wasting precious time on the likes of this dull couple?

SCENE OF THE WEEK: The chess game between Stefano and EJ. The cat-and-mouse game was good stuff; and at first, classic Stefano. The thing is this scene would have been handled better if it had not been dragged out piecemeal for three episodes. So much of it -- from the reveal that Stefano knew what was up all the way until EJ was caressing the letter opener, preparing to stab Stefano to death -- was just filler. These poor writers really need to watch the old 80s show. You speed up the action scenes and reveals and slow down the romantic stories. They’ve got it all backwards.

PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: Joe Mascolo brought it this week. While I was not thrilled to see Stefano slap the crap out of Anna, I’m glad to see Stefano becoming a bad ass again; and Joe was making the most of it. Even while I have my issues with the way scenes are being written and such, Joe as usual does the best he can with what he has to work with.

4/9/10 review - Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz……

Carly/Daniel/Vivian - Daniel plays Bo Lite to protect Poor Helpless Carly from Big Bad Vivian. Not only is Daniel becoming Bo Lite but he talks to Chloe about moving into Bo’s house. He’s also thinking about buying a motorcycle and growing a beard.

Father What’s His Name/Chloe - Chloe bemoans all of her problems about Daniel and Carly and Melanie to the good Father because we all know God has nothing better to do than to listen to her whine.

Aaron/Stephanie/Nathan - Nathan stops Stephanie from going on another date and asks her out for a date. I restrain banging my head against my keyboard. For the love of God, when is this going to stop? Maybe I should ask Father What’s His Name.

Philip/Melanie - Philip just can’t get his job position filled. After Chloe rejected Philip’s job offer yesterday to be Daniel’s wife, Melanie refused today to go to nursing school. Apparently Salem doesn’t have nearly enough incompetent doctors around.

Sami/Roman - Sami whines. Roman lectures. Sami gets mad at Roman. Will and Sami fight. Will storms off to Kate’s house, once more reminding me of the old LUMI days. Damn, I miss Lucas.

Kate/Chad/Madeline/Gaby - Madeline tells Gaby that she’s going to help Rafe. I’m wondering what’s up with Madeline and Kate -- the only interesting thing on the show today.

Stefano/EJ - EJ threatens to kill Stefano but can’t go through with it. Sami arrives. Will Stefano tell her the truth? Oh, I’m just hanging off the cliff, can’t wait until Monday, biting my nails, dying of suspense here. Yeah, whatever.

See you in another life, brotha!

I guess he was right in season 2.

"Happily Ever After" was a much better episode than the Kwon centered "The Package."  I'll start with the Kwon eppy since I neglected to blog about it last week.

The reason for me why "The Package" didn't do it for me was the lack of supernatural elements in it.  The Kwons are the least interested characters in the truth in regards of the island.  They pose no supernatural powers other than Jin's sperm that impregnated Sun on the island.  Apparently he can knock her up on the sideways world too.  The Sideways Sun is a bit of a mafia princess, and a not very smart one at that.  The old Sun learned English to break away from her father and Jin.  This Sun just started a new bank account.  Keamy got shot again, which was nice.  But I'm so tired of him.  Please no more Keamy!  Mikhail lost his eye again when Jin shot it out of his head.  lol  So, in the sideways world we have a pregnant, unmarried Sun that isn't that into Jin getting shot in the stomach area.

The island storyline was much more interesting.  Widmore had Jin captured, apparently it was too early in his timeline.  Widmore showed Jin pictures of his daughter and wife.  Very touching moment there.  One of the few highlights of that show.  Sayid is sent by nuLocke to see what Widmore was up to.  I did love the nuLocke/Widmore showdown even though it was brief. It was menacing to watch nuLocke pace around the barrier.  He looked like a lion in a cage.  He provided a distraction for Sayid to reach the dock where he saw the sexy Scot, Desmond.  Not much of a surprise that Des was the package.  But man, who wouldn't want that package for Christmas?  lol

Ok, now to the fabulous episode.  I adore Desmond Hume and Henry Ian Cusick.  The Des episodes have always been amazing.  Des runs into Hurley in the airport who tells him where the baggage claim is.  I wonder if Hurley is the true candidate.  He seems to pop into other characters' sideways world a lot to direct them where to be, like Jacob did.  He did the same thing with Locke.  Des talks to pregnant Claire.  He offers her a ride, and tells her the baby is a boy.  Des doesn't like surprises.

So Des in his sideways world is the Fix It Man for Charles Widmore.  Widmore even gave him a drink of the 60 year old Scotch he denied him in another life.  Also, there was neat stuff in Charles' office like the picture of a yacht, and a painting of a balance with a white rock and a black rock.  Charles wants Des to get Charlie Pace to do a charity concert with his son, Daniel (Farraday) Widmore.  Des meets up with Charlie who just got released on bail.  Charlie walks right through incoming traffic.  To me, Charlie has a death wish, or a near death wish.  That's totally unlike island Charlie who fought to stay alive until he accepted his death in the looking glass station.

Des and Charlie are in the car when Charlie's song "You All Everybody" comes on.  Des isn't inpressed.  Charlie steers the car into the water.  To me, it seems like the same area where Ben tried to kill Penny.  Des escapes the sinking car while Charlie remains inside.  Des dives back in to rescue Charlie.  Charlie opens his eyes and puts his hand against the glass just like he did in the looking glass station.  Des sees the message that was on his hand then, "Not Penny's boat."  Des starts having flashbacks of Charlie's underwater death.  Des frees Charlie.  I thought it was odd that no one in the middle of the day tried to save these two.  Whatever.  Just thought it was odd that there weren't any spectators or attempted rescues by eyewitnesses.

Des wakes up in the hospital.  Got a little bit of skin.  lol  Not enough really.  Des is sent to get an MRI.  Des sees his other life with Penny and baby Charlie.  He realizes that Charlie was right when he mentioned earlier in the bar that he saw something in his near death experience on the plane about love.  Des is not interested in love.  Charlie said he saw a ravishing blonde on the plane.  I'm assuming it's Claire, and it better well should be!  I felt jipped as a Charlie/Claire fan that their relationship was almost completely platonic.  Charlie explained that he felt paranoid around the federal marshal with Kate that he attempted to swallow the heroin when turbulence hit and caused him to choke.

Des gets out of the MRI machine to track down Charlie.  He runs into Jack.  They both recognize each other from the plane.  Charlie is running away from hospital staff.  I don't know if Dominic Monaghan does it on purpose or not, but he looks so funny running.  He's always wide eyed.  Des tracks him down.  He checks Charlie's hand, but doesn't see the message.  Charlie realizes that Des did see something in the car.  Des asks who Penny is.  Charlie told him to go find her himself.

Des tells Charles that he can't get Charlie to the concert.  Charles tells Des to tell Mrs. Widmore himself.  Mrs. Widmore of course is Eloise Hawking.  Des's chauffeur, George, is the same guy who died from time travel on the island in the freighter.  I didn't know who he was, I read that somewhere.  lol  George warns him that Mrs. Widmore isn't very pleasant.  Des tells her that Charlie's not coming.  She seems ok with that.  Des hears Penny's name being read from a list.  Her name is Penny Milton, obviously she got her last name from the writer John Milton.  Des wants to see the guest list.  Eloise has a cow, and refuses to let him see it.  It's obvious to me that Eloise is fully aware of all the other worlds and doesn't want Desmond involved yet for some reason.

Daniel overhears the conversation and follows Des to his car.  Daniel also gives a "love at first sight" story to Des about Charlotte.  He said that night he came up with some genius physics theories with no knowledge of physics.  This Daniel is a musician.  Daniel tells Des where to find his half sister Penny.  Des finds her jogging up the same stadium that Des and Jack met in season 2.  Des introduces himself to her and passes out.  She agrees to have coffee with him later.  Des asks George to get the flight manifest.  I believe that Des is going to find Claire for Charlie.

In the island world, Des is drugged up by the totally useless character of Zoe.  Widmore wants to test on Des now.  We see Simmons accidentally get fried by the electromagnetic room.  Jin is watching this entire thing.  Des attacks Widmore.  They put Des in a chair that reminded me a lot like Jacob's chair in the cabin.  They turn on the juice.  Des tries to escape then collapses.  When he wakes up in the box, is about the same time Des passes out when shaking hands with Penny.  Zoe is surprised that he's fine.  Des very willingly agrees to do whatever Widmore wants.  I think that Des knows that if he doesn't do what he's told, that he won't end up with Penny.  Zoe and two other dudes escort Des.  Sayid kills the two men, and tells Zoe to run.  I guess Sayid doesn't kill women.  Anyway, Sayid tells Des that Widmore and his buds are evil and to leave with him.  Des follows him.

Excellent episode.  It kind of makes you wonder why the show has only used Des briefly in two previous eppies.  He's such a brilliant character, use him more often!

Next week is the Michael and Libby episode.  I'm afraid it'll be a downer from last week.  I do like Libby, but I'm so over Michael.

4/8/10 review - Doctors in Love

Any bets for a 1.8 next week?

Philip/Melanie/Carly/Daniel/Chloe - Carly thinks moving in with Daniel and Chloe is a bad idea; and that Chloe will get pissed if the subject is even brought up. Before Daniel can bring it up, Chloe invites Philip and Melanie over for dinner. Things rapidly turn stupid as Daniel is called away to assist Carly with a surgery as Melanie grinningly observes. Meanwhile, Philip and Chloe make meaningless small talk while waiting for them all to come back..

D.A. Woods and Wife/Chad/Gaby - Chad and Gaby get into it over Rafe. Chad and D.A. Woods get into it over Rafe. Abe and D.A. Woods get into it over Rafe. Also, this was Jessica Tuck’s second airdate as Madeline Woods. Jessica Tuck is known to soap fans as OLTL’s Megan Gordon Harrison. I like her so far, but wonder why she’s putting up with such a grumpy old schmuck like the D.A.

Maggie/Hope- Hope interrogates Rafe while the rest of us take a nap. Later on, Hope finds out from Maggie that Bo left town. She uses some half-assed excuse that she accidentally erased his messages. I don’t buy it. When you’re both parents of the same kid, she would have checked the messages just so that she would know if it involved Ciara. The writers didn’t even try to explain the lack of a final BOPE scene in a decent way.

Rafe/Sami/Abe - Abe tries to calm Sami down about the accusation against Rafe. Sami unusually goes back to true form, takes a look at Woods’ file and makes up an alibi for Rafe. Once her story is proven false, Rafe gets all high-handed, leading to another interminable SAFE talk. Rafe feels it will never work out, Sami grovels, and I yawn.

Stefano/EJ - EJ threatens to put Stefano in a psychiatric ward. Stefano shows EJ Anna’s forced confession. Finally, EJ admits what he’s done as Stefano promises to exact revenge against EJ’s revenge. There wasn’t quite the same amount of spice to these scenes today as in yesterday’s eppy…mainly because it was too drawn out and all over the place.

DAYS is just boring repetition lately while GH has been on fire. The soap really needs to step up their game if they want to survive. Just because they got renewed for another year doesn’t mean the writers all need to write on auto pilot.

DAYS sinks to 1.9

So I guess I won my bet.  DAYS has mostly been monotonous with recycled scenes for the last few weeks, with only a few stand-out scenes.  Compare that to the Kristina/Kiefer abuse storyline on GH, which has been powerful stuff...and its no wonder that GH is ahead of DAYS.

4/7/10 review - Checkmate

EJ/Stefano - The best part of today’s episode was the stand-off with Stefano and EJ.  EJ tells Sami that he thinks he’s won and will get Stefano permanently out of his life until Stefano lets him know otherwise; that he knows all about EJ being the real Sydnapper. Steffy gets the Hypocrite of the Week award though when he said “What kind of monster could trick people into believing such a terrible thing [as that a little girl is dead]?” Damn, Stefano has faked so many deaths over the years I’ve lost count; and I hope EJ says as much tomorrow. I loved the chess game between Stefano and EJ. Joe and James ROCKED IT!

Sami/Will/Kate/Gaby - Will’s mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. When he sees evidence that EJ had breakfast with Sami, he decides to move in with Kate at the Dimera Mansion. Not terribly enthralling but still more interesting than another SAFE breakup.

Rafe/Hope/D.A. Woods and Wife/Chad/Lexie/Abe - D.A. Woods is brought into the hospital, having been beaten up. He accuses Rafe as his attacker. When Hope questions Rafe, he says he didn’t do it. This storyline is lame right from the get-go. The whole thing about Benny being released was a flimsy reason for Rafe to lose it in the first place. Who really cares about what happened to the D.A.? And there’s no chance in hell that Rafe actually did it…so what’s the point of all this nonsense?

Bo/Carly/Dan/Victor/Ciara - Bo gets ready to leave Salem for L.A. so that he can donate bone marrow to Kimberly. He says goodbye to Carly and Ciara; but sorry BOPE fans, Hope doesn’t even get so much as a “see you later” even though she was on in the same episode. I’m “unspoiled” at the moment so maybe we’ll see it tomorrow but I won’t hold my breath. Carly gives Daniel some information about his double vision, although no one seems to question how the hell he’s going to read it. Daniel worries how poor wittle Carwee will get by without the Big Strong Bo to protect her from the Big Bad Vivian. Last I recall, Carly knew how to make a filet steak out of a troublesome husband, so I’m not too worried about her, to tell you the truth.

Gloria's New Grandson!

For any of you who have listened to our "reality TV" interview where Gloria Loring was answering interview questions while literally driving across California to attend the birth of her grandson...the news is out!

On Gloria's Facebook Page:  "My son Robin & his wife Paula are proud parents of a baby boy, Julian born on Tuesday April 6, 2010!"

Congrats, Gloria!

4/6/10 review - Bo in a suit?

Carly/Bo – Bo and Carly go on a date since they’ve pretty much done everything else. OK, Bo wants to wear a suit and go to a fancy restaurant? I guess he really is going through a mid-life crisis!

EJ/Sami/Will – Will gets upset at seeing EJAMI together. Sami freaks out and blames Will when she hears that Sydney had called Nicole “Mama”. For the first time, the new kid playing Will impressed me today. Their scene rocked. I especially loved how Will called out Sami on her own lies and on living off Mommy Marlena’s money. Like father, like son. Just like Lucas, after fighting it out with Sami, Will leaves to stay with Kate.

Nicole/Brady/Arianna – There’s something wrong with the universe when I find Will more entertaining than Nicole. Nicole and Arianna squabble some more over Brady. Brady gives Nicole a loan.

Lexie/Theo/Kate – Kate and Lexie try to get EJ to make peace with Stefano.

Anna/Stefano – Anna plays EJ’s messages from her cell phone for Stefano. Stefano lets Anna leave town with the money. Ugh, I would have been happier if Anna could have just left Salem with her dignity intact instead of being Stefano’s bitch, but whatevah.

I'm sure you all knew what was coming.  Gloria Loring's #1 Hit on DAYS and off.

4/5/10 review - Revenge of RoboCop!

Any bets on a 1.9 rating this week? Today’s episode was dull as dishwater for about 95% of the time.

Rafe/Abe/The D.A. – Rafe complains to his sister about breaking up with Sami for the millionth time. Later on, when Abe tells Rafe that Benny lawyered up, RoboCop goes berserk and attacks the D.A. I’m wondering how DAYS is even rating a 2.0 rating at this point.

Carly/Daniel/Chloe – Carly and Chloe worry that Daniel may have to end his medical career because of his double vision. Renee Jones gives a sigh of relief, hoping she’ll get more air scenes as the resident doctor now. Daniel considers jumping off a building ledge at the prospect of seeing multiple Carlys, Chloes and Melanies the rest of his days.

Melanie/Brady – Other than making my eardrums bleed, Melanie didn’t do much today. Oh, yeah…she got mad at Carly for the millionth time.

EJ/Sami – Sami complains to EJ about breaking up with Rafe for the millionth time. There was a cute moment when EJ teases her about the girlfight. EJ says he forgives Sami for covering up the truth. Even so, there was no EJAMI spark today. Was this a Hope/Justin scene with the wrong actors today or what?

Arianna/Brady/Nicole – Brady tells Melanie that he’s going to marry Arianna again. Nicole goes to Brady at the Kiriakis mansion, once again getting rejected. Nicole tries to fool Arianna into thinking she’s been with Brady, wine glass in hand. Yawn.

Anna/Stefano – The only scenes with any real action today. Stefano tracks Anna down, slaps her and threatens to have her killed. WHOA, that woke me up! I don’t like seeing Stefano rough up women (especially Anna!), but its nice to see him be a villain again even in a campy castrated sort of way. Anna reveals that EJ was the real kidnapper.

Top Gloria Loring DAYS Songs - #2 and #3

Join us tomorrow on our blogtalkradio channel for the interview with Gloria from 7 to 8 EST.  In the meantime, we continue with the countdown.  #3 - "Tonight I Celebrate My Love".

The #2 song is not embeddable from YouTube, but its a Liz and Neil CLASSIC!

#2 - "Always On My Mind"

Here is the link.

FancyFace Picks 3/29 to 4/2

WINNERS OF THE WEEK:  Justin and Adrienne.  Adrienne's arrival in town has finally given Justin a little bit of fire.  I loved watching him tear into Hope for bringing his ex back.  Better than seeing him always moping around as the spurned wannabe boyfriend.  As for Adrienne, not only does she look great but she has an edge.  Not the Miss GoodyTwoShoes I remember so much anymore.

LOSERS OF THE WEEK:  NBC.com and YouTube.  So I'm wanting to watch Friday's show on NBC.com while I'm having a little lunch.  I try to pause the video so that I can get my stuff from the kitchen when I realize the pause button is GONE!  Plus the rewind button, fast forward button, etc.!  I had only been in to the show a few minutes; so I get my meal and start over from the beginning.  So of course, once it gets to the commercial break, the thing freezes up and doesn't return to DAYS.  Maybe if I get the "High Definition" version to download or whatever, it will work.  Since when does "High Definition" include pause buttons.  And then DAYS wonders why they lose viewers!  So I go to YouTube, only to be confronted with their New and Improved viewing page that you need a roadmap to find your way around.  When stuff works, why do these folks want to mess everything up?

SCENE OF THE WEEK:  The Sami/Nicole Smackdown Sequel.  Yes, we've seen it before, but this one was more of a real fight.  Always a guilty pleasure.

PERFORMER OF THE WEEK:  Ari Zuker knocked it out of the park several times.  There was the Sami smackdown.  There was the reunion with EJ where they had still had the "hate" sparks flying.  And there was that familiar heartbreak when she saw Sydney again on the pier.  Welcome back, Ari!  You've been missed.

Top Gloria Loring DAYS Songs - #4

With my continuing countdown of my favorite Gloria Loring performances on DAYS, here is #4.  "Up Where We Belong" for Marlena and the Real Roman Brady.

4/2/10 review - I Should Have Done Yoga

Anna/Hot Young Yoga Instructor/Stefano - Maybe I should have worked out instead of watching DAYS. Anna seems to be having a lot more fun than I am. Well, that is until Stefano decided to let her in for a massage she couldn‘t refuse.

Melanie/Philip - The couple moan about their messed up parentage before they say the hell with it and make out.

Kate/Victor/Vivian/Maggie - Victor finds out Vivian told Philip about the marriage and is already regretting that he made the offer. Kate and Vivian fight over Victor and fight over Philip. There was an interesting exchange between Victor and Maggie, making me wonder if DAYS is going to try to make something out of them. I kind of hope not. I‘d rather see Maggie with a younger man; and if Victor and Maggie were to become an item, she‘d always be trying to make him a nice guy. I‘m bored already just thinking about it. I wish that DAYS had made Maggie an alcoholic again after Mickey’s death; it seems like they’re just floundering with what to do with Suzanne Rogers again.

Rafe/Benny/Sami - Yet another smirking Rafe interrogation scene before yet another one of those SAFE “should we get back together or not” scenes. Yawn.

EJ/Nicole/Will - Nicole suspects that EJ’s scared. EJ suspects that Nicole was in cahoots with Anna. Nicole sees Sydney again with Will, which made for a moving goodbye scene.

Top Gloria Loring DAYS Songs - #5

ShareIn anticipation of our Tuesday interview with Gloria, I'm having a countdown of my own personal top picks of my favorite songs that she sang on DAYS.

#5 - "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?"

John Forsythe death

John Forsythe passed away today at the age of 92.  The Diva is saddened by the loss of this influential and inspiring artist whose work in television drama was an example for those who came after him.
