And Where She Stops Nobody Knows
by Oliver Hailey

Cape May, NJ – Cape May Stage, as part of their ongoing commitment to quality theatre, is proud to announce a one-night limited engagement of Oliver Hailey’s unpublished gem And Where She Stops Nobody Knows.  Part of Cape May Stage’s inaugural Second Stage Broadway Series, this underperformed treasure stars Cape May Stage favorites, husband and wife team James Reynolds and Lissa Layng, both of Days of Our Lives fame.  This seldom-seen offering will be performed Monday, July 5th at 8:00pm at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse at the corner of Bank and Lafayette Streets in downtown Cape May.
And Where She Stops Nobody Knows received its premiere at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles in the summer of 1976, and has been seldom revived since.  Billed as “a pas de deux”, Hailey’s two-actor play follows the life of “She” (Layng) from an infant who hates her mother’s milk to an elderly woman reflecting on the triviality of life.  Reynolds plays “He”, cycling through a dizzying 27 different characters throughout the piece, matching the rapid fire of Hailey’s language while creating both conflict and resolution for Layng’s character.  She says, “One man, one woman – that was [God’s] idea of Paradise – and also mine.”
She is a cynic, disillusioned with life from an early age by interactions with everyone from her adoptive parents to cannibals, including several misdirected dances with love along the way.  “People like you are why we have Nevada,” He says, playing a police officer who has pulled her over for speeding just inside the Arizona border.  Pleading to be taken to jail, She responds, “There’s so little tolerance out here, anyway.”  Her love life leaves her unfulfilled, eventually coming to the determination that “All great romances are terminal.”  And Where She Stops Nobody Knows is simultaneously insightful and moving, funny and poignant – the inspection of a life fraught with futility and tempered with humor.
Reynolds and Layng have taken time away from their duties as the artistic directors of the much acclaimed Fremont Centre Theatre in South Pasedena, CA, to appear together in this show.  Both agree it has been one of the most rewarding and enjoyable experiences of both their personal and professional lives – a feeling that shines through and embraces the audience during performances.  Says Reynolds, “It has been our good fortune to have presented a number of the great Oliver Hailey’s plays and of course those of Elizabeth Forsythe Hailey.  Where She Stops Nobody Knows is a whimsical play about a woman who searched all of her life for love and adventure.  Performing this with my wife Lissa is ideal because we found love and the search for adventure continues.”
Lissa Layng was last seen at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse in A Woman of Independent Means.  Her role as Bess in that show has garnered universal praise, from “Pick of the Fringe” at the 2005 Vancouver Fringe Festival to “Best Production of a One-Person Show” from the Valley Theatre League. Other stage credits include Fog of War and the musical comedy Much Adieux at the Whitmore/Lindly Theatre. Layng was also chosen One of the Top Ten Actresses in LA by ReviewPlays.com and received the DramaLogue Critics Award for her performance in the Los Angeles premiere of Station WVIP. Television credits range from guest starring appearances on Family Law, Unsolved Mysteries and Days Of Our Lives. She is co-artistic director of the Fremont Centre Theatre with her husband James Reynolds, where they received the Red Carpet Award from Women in Theatre, and the Gold Crown Award from the Pasadena Arts Council.
James Reynolds was last seen at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse in his one-man show, I, Too, Am America.  He is well known for his portrayal of Commissioner Abe Carver on NBC’s Days of Our Lives. As a two-time Emmy nominee, Reynolds has won admiration from fans and critics alike with his commanding presence and nuanced performances. He has guest starred on such series as Seinfeld, Highway to Heaven and Hart to Hart. In addition to his television career, Reynolds also makes time for his role as co-artistic director of the Fremont Centre Theatre, which he runs with his wife, actress Lissa Layng. Reynolds has also lent his considerable talents to directing and has helmed productions of The Tangled Snarl and Murder Me Once, which was named “Critic’s Choice” by the Los Angeles Times and Backstage West. Aside from his artistic endeavors, Reynolds remains committed to his charity work for such organizations as Ronald McDonald House and the USO and, with Ms. Layng, finds deep fulfillment in giving back to their local and national communities.
Part of Cape May Stage’s inaugural Second Stage Broadway Series, And Where She Stops Nobody Knows will run Monday, July 5th at 8:00pm at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse at the corner of Bank & Lafayette Streets in downtown Cape May.  Tickets are $50, and include an after party at the Wine Bar at the Washington Inn, Cape May’s new hip, relaxing, contemporary meeting place at the corner of Washington and Jefferson Streets.  There, you’ll have a chance to mingle with the stars of the show, while enjoying delicious complimentary finger foods and a well-stocked cash bar.  Call (609) 884-1341 for reservations and information or visit the theatre’s website, www.capemaystage.com.
Cape May Stage’s Second Stage Series is presented through the gracious support of Chris and Dave Clemans.

"My name is Alice too."

I just finished watching Alice's funeral from Friday's episode.  Such a tearjerker!  I have to say, great job by everyone involved.  I am so glad that they had a fitting tribute to Alice Horton and Frances Reid.

Most of the side stories were interesting too.  The Carrie/Sami scenes at the Pub didn't really interest me.  I know I'm being unrealistic, but I think Sami needs a snarky girlfriend to tell her to keep stringing EJ and Rafe along.  lol  That would be a lot more interesting than everyone getting in her face and telling her to choose.  Nice scene with Kate and Sami bonding over Johnny's cold.  Great acting by Lauren Koslow and Alison Sweeney.  You can feel Kate's pain that Lucas is so nearby, but far away at the same time.  I could have lived without the Safe reunion at the end, but since Safe is Corday's favorite couple, we're stuck with them being pimped even during Alice's funeral episode.

Great job by Diva interview guest, Roark Critchlow on Mike's frustration after finding out he did not get to see his grandmother before she passed and that he was going to miss the funeral.  Oh, and watching Jenn comfort him was priceless.  It would be nice if they let nuBill do something besides stand there like a statue.

The Bo and Hope side story was fascinating to watch.  Would he comfort his wife or not?  Bo attended the funeral with her, but refrained from comforting her at the grave site.  That annoyed me a bit, but I think Bo honestly didn't know what to do.  I was annoyed with Justin lovingly looking at Hope at the grave site.  That's not really appropriate.  lol  I was more touched by the Justin/Adrienne scenes at the pier.  Those two still have such amazing chemistry.  I hope they end Justin's fascination with Hope soon.  I think he should be chasing after his ex-wife instead.

Oh....Kim and Shane!  I loved the timing of Kim and Shane's reunion at the end of the eppy.  Kim did her normal Kim routine of pushing Shane away.  Shane went after her.  I love these two.  God bless all the Shane and Kim fans that waited so long for this reunion.  Good for you for not giving up.  I'm hoping that tptb see the light when it comes to DOOL's supercouples.  We love them.  We want them to have happy endings.  Kim and Shane got a SOW cover this week!  I hope we see more of these two in the future.

It was heartbreaking to hear all the characters tell their Gran stories.  I loved it when Lucas put Tom's picture next to Alice's.  *sob*  What a sweet thing to do.  And little Ali tells everyone at the pub that her name is Alice too.  lol  Too cute.

I probably forgot a lot of stuff but that's because it was an excellent episode from beginning to end.  What do you guys think?

Days of Our Lives gets shut out of Emmys

Not much of a surprise there.  How about not letting Gary Tomlin pick the clips next year?  He's 0 for 5.

Maura West, ATWT lead actress
Michael Park, ATWT lead actor
B&B best soap
Julie Pinson, ATWT, best supporting
Billy Miller Y&R, best supporting
Drew Tyler Bell, B&B best younger male
Julie Berman, GH, best younger female
B&B best writing.

Other than Julie Berman's win, almost a sweep for Emmy host network, CBS.

Show sucked, as usual.  Too much Vegas crap.  No Frances Reid tribute, not even a mention.  The As the World Turns montage lasted about a minute.  Oh, and they honored Agnes Nixon and Dick Clark.

Only highlight, Louise Sorel stole the show.  Dick Clark made me cry.

Brad Bell owes Betty White big time.  She's responsible for B&B's two big wins.  I still think killing off Betty White was a stupid idea.  Nice to see ATWT honored in its final year.

Divalicious blind items!

ShareYes we are all going to Hell for spreading gossip.  At least we'll be in good company!

The following are things that were overheard by various people from various actors and others from various fan events during various weekends.  After consulting with my attorney, I wil not be revealing the subjects of the blind items.  lol

One actor/actress told a story about Frances Reid.  This actor/actress said that Frances came into the make up room one day and commented in a snarky way to another actor/actress about the actor/actress's newest face lift!  Yes this actor/actress does not publicly admit to having any work done.

One official webmaster/mistress was fired from an actor/actress's official web page for stealing the actor/actress's stuff and reselling it.

One diva showed up at one of the fan events that weekend and stood in such a way that s/he blocked all people traffic around her/him.  When other fans tried to move around this person and his/her fans, that actor/actress's fans would start yelling at them for cutting in line, even though they were just trying to move around the place, not trying to cut in the line.

The same diva only spent twenty minutes at the event and left in a snit.

From all accounts, Bill Hayes was a total pleasure to meet.  Everyone adored him.  Bill and Patrika Darbo (ex-Nancy) sang "Always" for the crowd.

One actress refused to kiss a co-star onscreen a few years ago because she was against the storyline.  The producer was not happy, and told the actress and her supposed love interest to do the scene as written.  Afterwards, the entire storyline was dropped which resulted in two characters getting new DNA.

Nature Valley What?

Another WTF moment on Days. In case you think The Diva has gone nuts when you read the title, that is the latest product placement ploy that was used by DOOL in todays show. And they used a cute little kid who couldn't even say it right. Sami had to save the day when little Ali couldn't remember the name of the damn thing. Who can blame her. Then they proceed to drag out a second bag for Grandma Caroline. Sorry Days but that was so forced and did not fit in at all with the show. Come on this was suppose to be all about Alice and you are promoting a bunch of nuts. Shameful!

Except for that shameful act the show was pretty decent today and The Diva was tearing up. Not sure I will be able to handle the funeral.

Hope/Doug Very sweet moments between daughter and father. Doug getting Hope to see that things can change for her and Bo because of their love for Alice. Hope is feeling guilty about not being with Bo when Alice passed away.

Sami/Carrie/Roman Sickening Brady family reunion. So Sami and Carrie have made nice. Can The Diva say BORING. I can understand Sami attacking Anna but when Carrie called her mom a wacko The Diva wanted to smack her a good one. Better yet Anna needs to return for that.

Roman/Bo/Kim/Kayla Nice to see all the Brady siblings together again. Great to have Kim back. Go Kayla telling Bo she is glad Carly isn't going to be at the funeral and showing her disapproval. But somehow The Diva wonders if Carly will come and try to stop a funeral too!

Julie/Jen/Abe I guess we had to get Abe in there somehow to have a memory of Alice. Always nice seeing Julie. She looks fabulous! Enjoyed seeing all the Alice flashbacks but I really wanted more and just not little snippets. I think we need a whole montage of Alice moments from 45 years! Come on Days you can do better than what I have seen so far. Maybe for the funeral.

Rafe/Shane Can Shane please just shove Rafe off the plane and put us out of our misery. Rafe is going to ruin the whole Alice memorial. As for Shane at least we may get our Kimberly/Shane reunion. Let's hope they get that right.

Bill/Maggie Is everyone thinking what I am?? This could work people. I really like this new Bill. Can The Diva say HOT! Go for it Maggie girl! Victor who?

Michael Logan's Emmy predictions

TV Guide's Michael Logan gives his emmy predictions.

The Diva actually watched DOOL today

"I can't marry Daniel with this scratch on my face."

After not watching the show for a month, the Diva decides to give DOOL another shot.

Brady/Dr. DICK:  Dr. DICK has Brady's drink drugged at the poker game.  Brady stumbled out.  Dr. DICK puts some liquor in Brady's mouth while he's passed out.  Dr. DICK even leaves his flask.  John Callahan is doing a great job with this limited role.

Sami/EJ/Steph/Nathan/Jenn/Adrienne:  Sami's still missing Rafe unlike the viewers.  EJ drives Sami to Jenn's house. Holy crap.  Would have it had killed them to put some furniture in the entry?  Looks like hell.  Sami has her flashback of Alice's advice to her as a teenager about love.  Jenn still looks super cute.  She said Jack would be there soon.  Stephanie tells Aunt Adrienne that she told Nathan about missing a few birth control pills.  She's not pregnant, thank goodness!

Rafe/guard/Shane.  Well, this is my first eppy seeing Shane again.  He was on for a whopping ten seconds.  Lucky us we get to see superhero Rafe again.  Boring.  Don't know how da hell he ended up in Anna's hospital room at the end of the eppy.

Daniel/Chloe/Father Matt/Melanie/Philip/Carly.  Chloe stops the wedding in her hospital room.  She talks to Father Matt about her affair with Philip.  Then she actually gets up the nerve to ask for him to tell Carly to stfu!  Seriously!  I cannot believe Chloe did that.  Carly and Mel get closer at the Brady Pub.  Philip's freaking out about his secret coming out.  Eventually Steph and Nathan show up.  Father Matt finally comes to his senses and refuses to marry Chloe/Daniel.  Seriously, who cares?  I don't care if they marry or not.

Bill/Laura/Jenn.  The best moment of the show was the Jenn reuniting with her parents.  Awwwww.

Anna.  Anna wakes up and attempts to flee.  Some of Stefano's goons come in to check on her.  Anna fakes being asleep.  One actually touches her lip which is a bit odd.  Anna opens her door.  She sees someone and is quite frightened.  Of course we would all love it if it was Tony on the other side of the door.  Which of course means that it's definitely not Tony.  Rafe discovers her empty hospital room after single-handedly capturing Joran Van Der Sloot.

Breaking news from Sheri Anderson inteview

ShareDuring our interview tonight with Sheri Anderson, Sheri revealed that she is the author behind the Days of Our Lives books featuring the show's supercouples.  The first book will be available in November, and will feature John and Marlena.  Book number 2 will come out in February.  There will be four books so far.  Sheri wants you to tell her on her Facebook page what couples you would like featured in her books.

Sheri was an amazing guest.  We encourage you to listen to her interview yourself.  The download should be available within fifteen minutes of the show ending.

Frances Reid Memorial Brunch

Sounds like a beautiful time was had by all at the event yesterday in L.A.  Read this great blog by "My Life, Made Possible by Pop Culture" describing the day.

Last week of Matt Ashford show canceled

ShareAs per Matthew Ashford's FB Page:

This just in per Matt: the shows for the last week of Mamma Mia in Toronto (June 21-27) have all been cancelled. The theatre says it's due to security concerns surrounding the G-20 summit to take place there that week. (See the theater's website for the official announcement www.mirvish.com.)

Corday's interview with SON

Oh good grief.  Why can't Ken Corday stfu?  The actors are not allowed to talk about future storylines, but this dumb ass is always spoiling stories.

Really?  The fans want "Safe".  Who the fuck are these people?  Most fans I see on the boards agree with me that not only do they not want Safe, they want Rafe dead.  So is the summer of Ejami supposed to be enough for the Ejamis fans?  I'm not taking sides.  I do think Ejami has more chemistry than Safe, but I honestly don't care who Sami ends up with.  Sami annoys me too.  My point is, why is Corday alienating the Ejami fanbase by telling them their hope is short lived?

Speaking of hope, Corday hints at a Bope reunion.  I "hope" that Hope beats the shit out of Bo first for cheating on her in her bed in her house.  But in typical DOOL fashion, they will probably have them reunite without addressing Bo's infidelity.

Oh, and about the books about the off-screen supercouples, wouldn't fans prefer their favs be on-screen for a storyline instead?  With his *wink* about one or two of the actors returning, I'd bet money on Jack and Jenn.  I think the books would be better than the actual show unless Dena Higley is writing the books too.

Don't you miss my rants?  lol

Interview with Sheri Anderson Thomas TONIGHT!

Join the Diva's Blogtalkradio show as we speak with Sheri Anderson Thomas from 10 PM to 11 PM EST.  Sheri Anderson, in collaboration with other writers such as Maggie de Priest and Thom Racina, co-created some of the most memorable  couples in DAYS history:  Steve and Kayla, John and Marlena (Deidre Hall, pictured above), Shane (Charles Shaughnessy, pictured above) and Kimberly, early Bo and Hope.  She was headwriter on DAYS during 1992, creating characters such as Kate Roberts and storylines such as the John/Marlena affair resulting in the birth of Belle.  Please call 914-338-1239 to speak with our guest.

Days Weekend!

Shawn Christian (Dan), Molly Burnett (Melanie) and Casey Deidrick (Chad) from DAYS weekend.

Lots of exciting news and stories coming out from L.A. this weekend.  If you have any cool stories from DAYS weekend, please share them here on the blog.

Note to the spammers whose comments have been deleted:  Pictures and nasty comments, just like certain vet actresses, can be easily let go of and replaced.  Under the circumstances, I'd think any publicity at all would be appreciated.  If you have any intelligent comments to make here, they are welcome.

Bill and Susan Hayes Interview Ready for Download

Click on the player button to the right to hear or download the Hayes interview.  Thanks to all the callers who participated.  And a BIG thank you to Bill and Susan Hayes for being such fabulous guests.  My only complaint is the interview wasn't long enough.  I could have talked to them all day!

Their joint autobiography, "Like Sands Through the Hourglass," is available at their website.

Picture of Rue and Deidre Hall

Rue McClanahan and Deidre Hall (Marlena, DAYS), TAKE MY DAUGHTERS, PLEASE

Rue McClanahan 1934 - 2010

The Diva is getting damned tired of posting all these obits. The passing of Rue McClanahan is particularly a hard blow. My favorite Golden Girl...and a wonderful actress. She died of a stroke at 1:00 AM, June 3rd, at the age of 76.

DAYS Connection: In 1988, Rue was the lead in the TV film, "Take My Daughters, Please", co-starring with Deidre Hall (ex-Marlena) and Michael T. Weiss (ex-Mike).

Drake's Audition for TV Show

ShareHE'S ALIVE!!!  It seems that Drake Hogestyn (ex-John, DAYS) has aspirations to have his own health-based television show.  Check out this audition clip he made as part of Oprah Winfrey's "Your Own Show".  There's an option to vote for Drake's show on the site.  This Diva wishes Drake the best of luck!
