Mary Beth Evans confirmed for return

Share

According to Mary Beth Evans' Facebook Page:  "Mary Beth will be returning to Days for Alice's funeral without Stephen. No info yet about how long she will be there."  Stephen Nichols is a confirm for a definite "no" now that he is on Y&R.

After some information from a certain party in-the-know, I suspect Mary Beth may be back in DAYS longer than most of us expect.

  1. This is great news, I love Mary Beth as Kayla, cant wait to see her back at Days.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, come on spill the beans Diva, you know you want to !!!!

  2. I suspect longtime S&K fans are about to be crushed when the entire history of our beloved couple is destroyed by TIIC at Days. Sorry, but I am not one who is excited that she is returning. It's not worth it to me.

  3. I don't see how this can be good. I don't see how they can explain Steve's absence if Kayla is back for an extended visit, other than to imply they are having "issues" or more likely that they have already split up. What other logical excuse could they give for Steve not being there? It kind of surprises me that MBE would even agree to go back to Days after the way they were treated last time. If the love story of S&K is destroyed with this little visit, you can forever substract one fan from the SN and MBE fan base.

  4. So is Mary Beth coming back on contract or is she just coming back for a series of episodes? Why has nothing been confirmed anywhere? It just all seems so secretive I can see why S&K fans are concerned.

  5. Come on guys ! Like you i love Steve and Kayla but what ? She doesn't have the rights to be a character without her beloved love-interest ?!
It is the sad fate of being half of a soap supercouple ?! It's not fair.
She can live and be developped without Steve. However of course i don't really believe in this current writing regime to write interesting stories for her but maybe i am in the wrong so i will give them a chance lol.
Anyway wonderful news, i am just happy to see her again !!!

  6. I'm also surprised MBE is agreeing to come back. Yes, a job is a job is a job but DAYS treated S&K as so expendable in the end.

  7. Longer than expected could mean longer than the day or two fans expect...more like a week...Maybe as part of Kim and Shane's story, somehow, since she and Shane were involved. Or she could try to straighten Stephanie out when she gets wind of some of Stephanie's scheming. Charles Shaugnessy's return was reported for 10 days' duration, so maybe both Patsy and Mary Beth will just have a longer than expected stint.

If there were something more permanent than that in the wind, I'm sure we'd hear about it the way we heard about Charles's return.

I think Mary Beth has a right to work if she wants to. I don't know that she'd really want to stay at Days after the way things went last time, though. They may WANT her to return, but maybe she doesn't share the same wishes.

I don't know. It's all up to her. If she comes back, I'll watch and hope she gets good material. But I'll watch cautiously, knowing as I do the way that TPTB treat Bo and Hope's story now.

  8. Of course Mary Beth has the right to work if she wants to. I don't think anyone is disputing that. We are expressing our concerns that with one stroke of the pen Higley and Tomlin could ruin a 25 year history of one of the greatest love stories on daytime. It's no secret there was no love lost between SN and MBE and Tomlin/Higley. So do I trust them not to detroy the legacy of my favorite couple? Of course not. Only someone extremely gullible would be so optimistic. I love Mary Beth and I want to see her on my TV, but not at the expense of Steve and Kayla. If that makes me selfish and narrow minded, then fine. I am selfish and narrow minded. To me it is just not worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  9. "Only someone extremely gullible would be so optimistic." I love this line...and it's so true! Stephen and Mary Beth left Days not on the best of terms. It would not suprise me in the least that the current writing regime would tear this couple apart with the stroke of a pen. These writers continue to tear apart the couples that have been the mainstay of Days for many years...the same couples that drew in millions of viewers in the past...and now I'm supposed to believe that they wouldn't tear apart one of the greatest love stories ever to be written! Nope...I do not believe that Kayla's presence will just be for Alice. It's the ideal way for these writers to twist the knife once more.

  10. I guess this rules out MBE as the subject of Diva's recent blind item about an actor refusing to come back to DOOL unless another actor returns also.

I look forward to MBE's return, but I have no illusions that the writers will do right by Kayla or off-screen Steve.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I just hope they don't revisit Shayla in any way, shape, or form. It was painful enough the first time around! I'm happy to see MB on my TV again and I'm also prepared for the worst as we all know what these writers do best.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Maybe they're trying to get her to return, but that doesn't mean she is. I'm sure she'd approach any offers with some real caution. She knows first hand that the show isn't the same show it was in the 80s in the way it's written or how the actors are treated.

She still could be the one not wishing to come back without her onscreen partner.

An offer may have been made, and it may be considered, but we don't know that she'll go for it since Stephen isn't included or available.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I want to see MB back on television as much as anyone but this really scares me. I don't have any faith whatsoever in these stupid writers and with SN not available to reprise the role of Steve I'm really worried about what they will say about why the character of Steve isn't there. I have been afraid of this scenario since I heard that she was coming back. I for one don't want to see what they're going to come up with as a backstory for why she's coming to Salem without Steve.

    ReplyDelete
  14. It's a sad state of affairs when fans are afraid of a vet return because of the potential threat to the character's legacy. Of course, with Higley and Tomlin at the helm the fears are entirely justified.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think fans should have some faith in Mary Beth. I really don't think she'd come back to Days to destroy Steve and Kayla. Her being on longer could just mean a few days other than the funeral. IMO everyone just needs to calm down.

    ReplyDelete
  16. It seems that there is one point that keeps getting lost. No one is saying they don't trust Mary Beth. They are saying they don't trust Higely, Tomlin and Corday. After what happened to S&K fans with their return, I would say we are entirely justified in that fear. WE ALL LOVE MARY BETH. That has nothing to do with it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I have a world of faith in Mary Beth! I do not have any faith in these writers. I do not believe for a moment that they've given Mary Beth anything other than a generic idea when it comes to her appearance on Days and her involvement with Alice's memorial. But let's face it...there will be questions from other characters as to where is Steve...therefore, my concern.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am a Bope fan, but I would like to weigh in on this. If I were an S&K fan (I do like them) I would be very worried about what the writers are capable of doing. Look what they have done to Bo and Hope. It wouldn't take much to completely destroy Steve and Kayla and I can understand why people are nervous. It would be nice if Mary Beth would reassure the fans, but it doesn't seem like that is a possibility? Anyway, hopefully it will turn out okay.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well i'm excited that MBE is coming back to Days. At this point in time i'm not really concerned that the writers will trash the S&K legacy. I'm thinking that her returning for longer than expected will be something like maybe 5 days instead of 1 day. I could see her involved in scenes/storys other than the Alice tribute, like the current Stephanie story or the BO/Hope/Carly story. I think it's a given that she will have scenes with Bo and Hope, this is one of the frontburner story's at the moment. Maybe she will be the catalyst that snaps Bo out of his current brain freeze, one of the reasons she returned last time was to help Bo and Hope get back together. I really dont think they will even bother with the S&K story in any significant way, I think it will be all about the current storys. I just dont see any reason to think otherwise at this stage.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I for one am happy with this. I will be very happy to have MBE back on my screen. I like to believe you should not borrow trouble and at the moment I think thinking that they are going to destroy Steve and Kayla over this is just that. We aren't sure this means a few weeks a few days or recurring or contract status. I agree if it was contract status then they would probably want her as part of a couple and I would feel mixed about that with so happy they finally got their happy ever after to I am so glad MBE is back. But this could only mean a few shows or a few weeks which could easily be explained as to why Steve isn't there so I will hold off my worry. I do wish Steve was there and Y and R and Days would work together to make this happen with Sony owning both but I am not surprised when have you ever heard of CBS working things out to help NBC.

  21. I'm sickened by this, I wish MB well.

    ReplyDelete
  22. How can you be sickened by this, but still wish MBE well??? I dont get it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't need to explain myself, it's how I feel.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I wish SN was coming back with MBE. :(

    ReplyDelete
  25. Just an outsider chiming in here. There seems to be alot of confusion among S&K fans about this return. Doesn't Mary Beth Evans have a fan club or something? Maybe she has given information to her fan club about her return. I'm not really an S&K fan, so I don't know much about their history but with the current writers I wouldn't take anything for granted.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I understand the fans discontent but let's remember the entire point of the show is to pay tribute to Frances Reid therefore all the many looses strings of the various couples Kim and Shane/ Patch and Kayla /Bo and Hope at another time if possible and keep the focus on her

    ReplyDelete
  27. True. This should be about Frances and on the memorial service. It should hopefully be a fitting tribute to her and to the character of Alice Horton, who always meant so much to the residents of Salem.

As for MBE, its a good thing she's coming, and if she gets to stay awhile, I think that a good thing too.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm glad Mary Beth is being included in the tribute for Alice. Never thought I'd tune in to Days ever again but I'll definitely watch when she returns.

Thanks, Diva, for the good news!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Good for Mary Beth, if she needs the work. Times are tough, and she certainly has the right to earn a living. In the end, if the worst does happen and Steve and Kayla are somehow split up and Mary Beth came back to Days knowing that, then I will be disappointed. I will also not be watching. If that means I am not a true fan then I will wear the title proudly.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don’t mean to offend anyone, but I really do have to laugh at the irony of all the posts I’ve seen on various boards since word came out that Mary Beth Evans was returning to Days. Last year you could go to just about any soap board and see Steve and Kayla fans complaining about how bad Days was and how terrible they treated Stephen and Mary Beth and how they were glad they were gone because they were too good for Days anyway. Now many of the same people are dancing with joy that Mary Beth is coming back to the show you hated not too long ago. I understand you are happy to see your favorite actress and all that, but why would you want her to be on a show you had so many complaints about the writing and the stories?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am a S&K fan and yep i'm happy that MBE is returning to the show, but I was NEVER glad that they were gone from the show. Dont lump all S&K fans in the same boat, we are all individuals, and how would you know that the exact same fans that are happy with MBE's return are the same ones that were glad they were gone from the show?? And even if that was the case, so what, people change their minds all the time, there is nothing wrong with that.
Oh and I still think the show sucks big time.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It's because we have mixed feelings. We loved Days very much once upon a time and still feel bits of that old affection. We had high hopes when Steve and Kayla returned and we watched their story unfold. We loved parts of it and thought other parts of it were disappointing.

We didn't like the way they were taken off the show without a goodbye and we STILL don't like that. We wish some real thought had gone into their return and that the story had remained true to its history, with Lawrence having been the one to take Steve, because that's what happened.

But for all our issues we love Mary Beth and we love Kayla and we want to see our favorite actress, so we're glad we'll see her. We still have issues with Days, but that doesn't change the fact that we miss her and hope for good things. Some of us are cautious about rumors of a "longer than expected" return, though, because what does that mean for Steve and Kayla?

We'd like for them to remain intact, and while we're glad to see Mary Beth and Kayla back, we do wonder what happens next if her stay is indeed longer than expected.

    I'll be watching, though.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm glad Mary Beth is returning for Frances Reid's funeral tribute. I wish there was someway Stephen could return with her, but I guess it's not going to happen. I really can't see her staying on Days that long after what happened with her and Stephen and their storyline. That's water under the bridge. I know Mary Beth thought the world of Frances and I believe that's the only reason she is returning like so many of her costars.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I personally think that Y&R would let Stephen return under these circumstances if he is interested in coming back for a day or two

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yes people do change their minds all the time. I totally agree with that. But it appears you have not since you still think the show sucks big time. So my original point about why would you want Mary Beth on a show that sucks remains a valid question.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Honestly, I do not know wht the state of the show is at this point because I have not watched but a minute or two since Steve and Kayla left(it could very well suck.) It was primarily about them that I stopped watching, however, also the soap in general was very dissapointing to me at that time. I never thought they were too good for Days, because for me they made Days good. That said, I am thrilled to see Mary Beth return as Kayla! I guess my excitement is out weighing any fears I have right now! The soap industry is ever evolving and confusing for sure. I guess what I am wishing is the fact they asked her back is a step in the right direction. Mary Beth has so much spunk and energy and I am looking forward to see what she brings to the table. I am willing to give this all a chance. Kayla being on gives me some hope again. Who knows where Days is going??? Have they seen some new light? (NOT!! holding my breath, but simply giving it a chance). If Stephen was not on another soap now, and unemployed and they did not have any plans for him, yes, I would revalute all this some more. I guess,I feelI have nothing to lose, and want to see my favorite actress! I certainly hope that Kayla comes back still very happily in love with her husband. I am hoping to see a very happy relaxed Kayla because she has spent much time with him. Maybe he had to stay back to help on a mission. However, there is a lot of room for storyline for Kayla alone at this point not to get over worried! It is my instinct that this will open doors for Mary Beth. I would also be thrilled if she were offered a role on another soap. I will always be a MB fan, a SN fan and a S&K fan. Nothing can change that for me! I want to see Mary Beth wherever she wants to be and that goes the same for Stephen (that is my own simple answer to a the above question).

  37. Except for a brief post at RTM, I have remained quiet about this tidbit of information until I had time to read what everyone else was thinking and feeling about MB’s return. My co-pilot and I have talked a lot about it privately and she has obviously been more outspoken about it on the board. No surprise we are on the same page when it comes to our feelings about the possible ramifications of MB returning for an extended visit. I have been a SN and MBE fan since 1986 when I fell in love with Steve and Kayla, often planning my class schedule around watching Days. I followed them to GH where they totally rocked it as Stefan and Katherine until Guza decided to shove Laura down our throats and stopped writing for Stefan and Kat and instead concentrated on Stefan and Laura. But I digress. I followed MB to ATWT and then my dream came true when Steve and Kayla returned to Days. Almost everything about the return was a disaster, but I stuck with it. Through Billie and Ava and everything in between. Why? Because I adore Stephen and Mary Beth and because I knew Steve and Kayla were the end game. Theirs is possibly one of the greatest love stories in daytime history and to consider anything other than a happy ending never even crossed my mind. I even sucked it up when they were unceremoniously written off Days without so much as an exit scene. In my mind they were off living happily ever after with Joe. I followed Stephen to Y&R where I am loving him as Tucker McCall. Now comes word that MB is returning to Days for “longer than anyone thought”……without SN. I have said it before and I will say it again, to me that is a red flag. I understand that it’s possible to explain Steve’s absence, to a certain extent, but to me it is far more likely that Steve’s absence will be explained as something other than “he is home taking care of Joe.” This has nothing to do with trusting MB or begrudging MB work. NOTHING. This has to do with the track record of the writers currently in charge, and the fact that Gary Tomlin made it painfully obvious he did not like S&K and did not want to write for them. Why he wants Kayla back is a puzzle to me, and it’s a puzzle that I’m pretty sure I don’t want to know the answer. Again, this has nothing to do with trusting MB. This has to do with trusting TIIC at Days.

    ReplyDelete
  38. con't.
To the folks who say “what have I got to lose?” this genuinely boggles my mind. I’ll tell you what I’ve got to lose, 25 years of memories as a fan of the only couple on Days who have ever remained true to each other and their love. Yes folks, I know they are fictional characters, but that doesn’t lessen my adoration for those characters. I spend hours and hours of my free time writing fan fiction based on those characters and I will tell you, right now my motivation to continue writing is zero. I have discussed this quite a lot with some of the other regular RTM writers, and to those fan fictions junkies who say we should be fans of the actors and not the characters consider this….fan fiction is about the characters, not about the actors. So if the characters are destroyed you can damn well bet the motivation to have them live on through fan fiction is not going to be there anymore. That is just my opinion on that matter so please take it as such. What I am saying is that just because there are those of us who have loved Steve and Kayla since we were teenagers who are feeling a little apprehensive right now about the prospect of Steve and Kayla being destroyed, please don’t turn it around and make it seem like we don’t support MB. If we did not support MB we wouldn’t spent countless hours of time and energy maintaining a web site that supports and promotes both her and Stephen, as well as the characters they have played (not just S&K but ALL characters). No one, that I have seen, has stated they did not want MB to return or that they did not trust MB. What I have seen are fans who have been burned one too many times by TIIC at Days and who have legitimate concerns about the legacy of their couple remaining intact. We are entitled to these concerns and we are entitled to express them without having to defend our admiration for MB as an actress. If it turns out there is nothing to worry about then great! I will shout it from the rooftops. This is one instance where I will gladly eat crow. But in the meantime, I am not going to pretend like I am thrilled that Kayla is coming back for an extended visit without Steve because I’m not. In fact I’m pretty darn worried.

  39. Seems tough though, because what is Mary Beth supposed to do? She's got a kid in college and another on the way there and that takes money. She has to consider taking work when it comes. IF this speculation winds up being true and Mary Beth does come back to Days for a "longer than expected" stay, is she supposed to say no? It seems like she's between a rock and a hard place.

Stephen HAS work. He has another gig. He's working and enjoying it and everyone's pleased as punch about it. Mary Beth, on the other hand, is sitting at home waiting for that phone to ring, auditioning and doing other things, but not having steady work...and she's said she loves to work.

Seems like she's in a pretty tough position.

I'm glad she was asked back, and I hope it's for longer than expected. I hope if she is back for longer that she actually gets some good story out of it.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well, MB is not exactly sitting home waiting for the phone to ring. LOL. She has a very successful pie company, she writes a weekly blog for Hybrid Mom and she just finished doing a play. Not to mention her hubby is a plastic surgeon so I doubt money for the kiddoes to go to college is really an issue. Yes she does love to work, so I have no doubt she's excited about the Days gig. But I don't think she was exactly between a rock and a hard place in being forced to accept it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. After reading these posts twice, I was reluctant to make a post myself. I can't help but feel that some fans think if you're not jumping up and down for joy that Mary Beth is returning then you must be insisting she turn down the role. I don't fit in either one of those categories. Personally, I am thrilled that Mary Beth is coming back as Kayla, but that doesn't mean I won't be holding my breath and crossing my fingers that the writers won't take a dig at Kayla and Steve's relationship. I'll be glad to see her but terrified at the same time. I guess you could say I'm standing on middle ground. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that I've seen anyone here say she shouldn't take the job. No one has said that at all. What I have seen are viewers who think that if she does come back then there is a real chance that the S&K love story could get bruised, maybe even destroyed. That really wouldn't be shocking with the writers we have now. I have also seen where viewers are sure that won't be the case. I admit, I wish those were guarantees, but they aren't. I do admire the optimism and wish I had more myself. I guess none of us will know what will happen until we see it play out on the show. I am looking forward to seeing Mary Beth again, but like I said, that doesn't mean I won't be turning blue in the process. So, if there are those who think fans of Mary Beth should choose sides and either clap your hands in joy or be thought of as someone who thinks she should stay away, count me out. I'm neither. For those who have about the same amount of faith in the writers as I do, I feel your pain. I'm standing on the middle ground, and that doesn't make me any less of a fan or supporter than anyone else. I'm just a cautious one with good reason.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think everyone understands feelings of caution.

I feel a bit the opposite, like I'm not supposed to be happy that Mary Beth is returning-that I SHOULD fear it and that I SHOULD wish she wasn't coming back, so that the Steve and Kayla love story would stay safe, and I'm not following directions. Not that anyone's giving directions, but maybe you know what I mean.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think Mary Beth is the only one who can clear all this up and she ain't talking. LOLOL

    ReplyDelete
  44. I am honestly a little bit disgusted by everyones comments because we are forgetting the reason for everyones return FRANCES REID so for the few weeks that they do the memorial they are going to memorizlize alice that is the only way the story will work if she is the focus yes the writers have basically messed up every supercouple on days and who knows if it is worth saving but Frances/Alice is well worth giving a fitting goodbye to if they make it about her the fans will love it regardless of one or two actors/characters that aren't on screen

    ReplyDelete
  45. I understand your feelings that it is about Frances Reid and memorializing her. I think many people feel that possibly Ken Corday is also trying to set up storylines in the process and many of these responces are in regards to what is unknown about the above news because Kayla has not been on the show, and Days will have to explain Steve's absence. It is a trust issue with T.P.T.B. that is the heart of the discussion. If people trusted them, they would believe that the focus would be on Alice. If they wanted the best focus for Kayla for the memorial it would be about her apprecaiton of Alice believing in Steve and Kayla's relationship. So, I know I would be elated for some wonderful scenes regarding that issue. Alice did not have many lines in their wedding, but she had the most wonderful smile in the background. I am pleased that Kayla/Mary Beth is going to pay tribute to her. So, the question for Days is will the writers do this justice and with class. It is hard to imagine with the writing staff in place at this time. It is a leap of faith.

    ReplyDelete
  46. After reading all the comments posted, one thing is clear to me, (irrespective of wether you are looking forward to Mary Beth Evans returning to the show or if you are worried about what this all means for the characters of Steve and Kayla as a couple) there are still alot of Mary Beth Evans and Steve and Kayla fans out there who are passionate about the characters of Steve and Kayla, and that brings a smile to my face.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I actually don't think there's a whole lot of disagreement here. I think it's just a matter of which issue is more important to you (the legacy S&K or seeing MBE work). I don't think those who are extremely nervous aren't true MBE fans, and I don't think those who choose to be optimistic aren't also a little nervous.

For me, I am absolutely nervous about what TPTB might say about S&K, but I like what the poster above said -- I'm not going to borrow trouble. Instead, I'm going to cross my fingers and look forward to seeing MBE back on my screen. I'm excited she was asked, and if she wants to do it, I'm excited for her. I don't think doing so makes me gullible.

Sure, I can't predict what the writers will do and I certainly can't control them, but I'm also not going to write anything off (especially an opportunity to see MBE onscreen) before we know anything.

And if she does come back for more than the memorial, I'll watch. And if the worst happens...I'll cry and hate it, but I'll watch. I won't fault people who choose not too, just as I hope they wouldn't fault me for choosing to watch one of my favorite actresses. I want MBE to be happy and to work and if this is it for her...then I'm going to support her.

In the end, nothing these writers do can ruin the beauty of S&K for me. They just can't.

On a side note, some of the best fanfic I've read has come out of a frustration over what was or wasn't taking place onscreen. So maybe all the fanfic writers could use their nerves/anxiety for good?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I strongly agree with the first paragraph of the last poster!
