Diva Picks - 12/21 to 12/25

WINNERS OF THE WEEK: Stefano and Kate. These two are truly a supercouple and power couple. If the kiss this week is any indication, they’re going to be together for a while.

LOSER OF THE WEEK: Roman Brady. Can’t he hit on anyone else besides an ex-wife?

SCENE OF THE WEEK: Bo and Carly’s argument, which ultimately leads to her confession that she loves him. For me, there was undeniable chemistry between the two of them throughout, a pleasant relief from the monotonous BOPE arguments. However, I do think DAYS is deliberately writing the story to slant it in this direction, as Hope is being horribly miswritten – and I’m one of the first ones to say so. But seeing a scene with true drama and romance is a nice change of pace these days. craving drama and romance with vet actors who have real chemistry is rejoicing at a good scene.

PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: Leann Hunley. She is making Anna sympathetic, evil and humorous all at the same time. So glad that she’s back!

ZINGER OF THE WEEK: Kate: “Oh my God. I have done so much for Lucas. I mean I know I’ve meddled a little bit, but it was always with love.” Stefano: “And arsenic.”

DAYS ON THE CHEAP: 1) You didn’t really think Philip would take Melanie to an island to propose to her, did you? DAYS can’t even afford a painted backdrop of the ocean, much less do anything like an out-of-town location shoot! Is it just me…or did it seem like they were back at the fleabag motel again with a few Xmas decorations thrown around? 2) I never thought I’d be reminiscent for the days of LAST BLAST, but jeez. No extras, no music, not even a tacky disco ball. 3) DAYS can’t afford to keep Thaao Penghlis around, so now Leann Hunley has to do scenes with his picture. 4) The wardrobe department is so broke that Kristian Alfonso had to scrounge around to wear Arleen Sorkin’s old hats and Gloria Loring’s old nightclub costumes from the 80s (see Xmas Eve episode).

Bryan Dattilo Response to Firing

“I really enjoyed my years on DAYS and I am grateful for having had the opportunity to travel the world and meet so many great fans in person," Dattilo tells Star. “For the past couple years I’ve had to turn down jobs that would move me to prime-time because I was under contract to DAYS. But now that I am not tied to the show, I can explore some new and exciting opportunities.”

"She could kill a bear with a switch."

Review of Tuesday's eppy.

It was a good eppy other than the teens ruining it again.

I'm loving snarky Hope.  Hope and Lexie laughing over Vivian putting a corpse in the hospital bed to scare Carly was priceless.  I miss the Hope/Lexie friendship.  Hope's friendless now without Kayla and Jennifer, her other bff's.  Hope gets Bo to agree to have Christmas Eve at their house.  Bo calls Carly immediately.  Looks to me like Bo has moved on.

Mia/Will/Chad/Gabi.  I kind of like Gabi.  At least the actress can act.  Maybe it's just my old high school, but I don't remember the school's teenaged mom having two guys fight over taking her to a dance.  Will and Chad fought over taking Mia to some dance.  Chad drops out of the whole mess, good for him.  He asks out Gabi.  Sucker Will takes Mia anyways even though she agreed to go with both guys.  The Diva is at least thankful that DOOL isn't going towards a teenage menage a trois route.  Ewwwwwwwww.

Sami mauls Kate when she finds out Kate had the same boots the kidnapper wore.  Kate proves that she returned them unworn two weeks ago.  Kate and Stefano commiserate over their lack of offspring at Christmas.  Lexie turns down Stefano's invite.  EJ talks to Arianna who gives him the idea of a public pleading for the return of Sydney.  Sami agrees to do it.

Anna takes pics of sweet Sydney.  She continues to talk to Tony's picture.  The Diva is a bit surprised that they are using his pic.  The show needs Thaao's permission to use it.  Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.  It appears as though that Anna isn't quite in her right mind.  Leann Hunley is doing a brilliant job with keeping us interested in this long storyline.

Over all, good show on Tuesday.

Bryan Dattilo Was Let Go!!

News has come in through the SONY boards that Bryan Dattilo's contract (up in February 2010) has not been picked up.  His manager verified that he filmed his last episode this past week.  Bryan is excited to move on to new opportunities.

The way Lucas has been rewritten, backburned and pushed aside for the likes of EJ, Rafe and Dan -- I can't say that I'm surprised about this news, but it's still a bummer.  I wish the best for Bryan in his post-DAYS career.

Diva Picks - 12/14 to 12/18

WINNER OF THE WEEK: Anna Dimera. I never in a million years thought that I would write her name in these picks…so I’ll say it again. ANNA DA-MEE-RAH!!! After an off-screen wedding to Tony, a pointless fling with Josh Taylor’s Roman, being sent to backburner oblivion, and not even getting to say a goodbye to the love of her life before he was impaled to death by a splinter of pier wood…Salem will learn there is no fury like Anna Dimera scorned.

LOSER OF THE WEEK: Kinsey. A return I’m not so happy to see. What is the point of this whining dull character?

SCENE OF THE WEEK: Melanie and Philip agreeing to celebrate a non-Xmas. With their bad family histories, it’s nice to see them bonding in some way that doesn’t involve porn.

PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: James Scott. He’s doing the best he can with what he’s got to work with, considering Rafe seems to be the one always getting to the bottom of the baby switch mysteries. His scenes with Arianna, Nicole and Stefano were very good this week.

ZINGER OF THE WEEK: Vivian welcoming Carly back as doctor at Salem University Hospital - “Victor and I just wanted to mark your return to the killing fields…er, stomping grounds.”

Nichols rips DAYS a new one

While all the Skorks are still celebrating Stephen Nichols' return to soaps, the actor has made quite a few well-deserved digs at DAYS in this TV Guide interview. Before anyone comments about the audacity of a disgruntled actor being bitchy, I have to say that I agree with him 100%. For so many years, DAYS fans wanted to see Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans back as Steve and Kayla on the show again. The way the return was so bungled, only to result in the actors to be backburned and fired was simply ridiculous. I can't wait to see how Nichols will shake up Y&R. I hope they treat him well there; and I hope he can hold his own amongst the egos of Eric Braeden and Peter Bergman!!!

Stephen Nichols on Y&R!!!

As revealed by TV Guide, Stephen Nichols replaces William Russ as Tucker McCall on Y&R.

The TV Guide article in entirety is below.

"That was fast. Actor William Russ, who hit The Young and the Restless December 2 as the Donald Trump-esque jillionaire Tucker McCall, has been ousted from the role and replaced by Days of Our Lives great Stephen Nichols (Patch). Nichols was due to begin taping December 17 and will appear on air January 27. The Y&R execs have kept their statements brief. Co-exec producer/head writer Maria Arena Bell says: “William Russ is a talented actor and we enjoyed working with him. However, we decided to take the character in another direction.” Adds co-exec producer Paul Rauch: “[Russ] did a wonderful job while he was here.”

Why the switch? Here’s my thought: Russ, known for his recurring roles on Boston Legal and The Ex List, has been giving a performance that seems strong enough, but it may be that the soap needed more superstar luster because Tucker will eventually be revealed to have a shocking (and we do mean shocking!) connection to a major (and we do mean major!) denizen of Genoa City. Check back here soon for an exclusive interview with Nichols."

I've been keeping up with Y&R since this last summer; so I'm familiar with this storyline. I think this is a smart move for Y&R. Tucker McCall is supposed to be a power player in Genoa City (more Stefan Cassadine than Steve Johnson, LOL); and William Russ had that part down. But he just didn't have enough IT factor for Jill Abbott to be jumping his bones the first day that she talked to him in NY...and then when she found out he was lying to her about who he really was, she was mad at him for like five seconds before doing him again. I can see Stephen Nichols inspiring such mindless panty-dropping, but not William Russ. Russ was a good actor but miscast with how Y&R wants this character to be. I'm also hearing rumors that Tucker will be Katherine Chancellor's son, so they needed a younger actor as well.

That being said, I'm so happy for all the Skorks and Stephen Nichols fans out there, including myself. Y&R usually treats their male actors over 40 pretty decently (i.e., they don't drag them out of the mothballs every holiday season and backburner them the rest of the year a la DAYS). Tucker is already an established character, so Stephen will get some good hardcore scenes right away without any warm-up act. And all the ladies in Genoa City are popping their corks tonight! WOO HOO!!!

Diva schedules our 8th show!

The Diva of Days of Our Lives and her bold Diva Spy Network have scheduled their 8th show on blogtalkradio for this Saturday at 11 pm for 45 minutes. Feel free to call in or join us in the chat room.

TV Guide's best and worst in soaps 2009

Spew alert. You will spew out your drink after reading Michael Logan's best and worst.

He picked General Hospital as best soap. Yikes. Apparently Michael doesn't read Serial Drama. The Diva hears nothing but complaints about GH and all its violence.

Best actor, Eric Braeden, Victor from the Young & the Restless. The Diva cannot wait for our Diva Spy Network member, Saddleshoes, to comment on this! I don't watch Y&R, but this seems like an odd pick to me.

Best actress, Robin Strasser. I like Robin, but Arianne Zuker deserves best actress. Considering how many unconscionable acts Nicole has committed this year, yet Nicole is still very well liked amongst DOOL fans proves the talent of Arianne.

Best Supporting Actor: Peter Bartlett from One Life To Live. Who da hell is that? From DOOL, I would go with John Aniston or Joseph Mascolo.

Best Supporting Actress: Lisa Lo Cicero from GH. I don't watch GH. Suzanne Rogers would be my pick. DOOL better give Suzanne the pre-nom. Looks like Suzanne might be up for best lead actress next year with the persistent rumor of Mickey being killed off.

Star of the Year: Crystal Chappell. Of course! We cannot have any list without CC being on it. Carly is still a dud, not as much of one as last time, but still a dud nonetheless. Her web-series, "Venice" has had a few mishaps already. By far, she's the most over-hyped star of 2009. Crystal is talented, no doubt. It's time to back it up.

Mickey Horton spoiler

Via SoapTown USA Twitter

Mickey Horton will die soon of natural causes.

Perhaps that explains John Clarke's reappearance in the family photos. I think some flashbacks are going to be pulled out when this happens. An unconfirmed rumor is that Maggie will start drinking again and cause a tragic accident.

Diva Picks - 12/7 to 12/11

WINNERS OF THE WEEK: Victor and Vivian. With their teaming up to give Carly payback, I think they are giving Stefano and Kate a run for their money as a new Salem power couple! And the zingers fly every time they are together.

LOSER OF THE WEEK: Faye Walker. Once a pushover, always a pushover. I can’t say I’ve missed her much.

SCENE OF THE WEEK: The scenes with Sydney in the rocking chair accompanied by THE VOICE and THE HAND of the kidnapper. I’m saving up my enthusiasm for next week’s picks’ but this scene definitely sets up the stage for next week which promises to be amazing.

PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: Crystal Chappell. Okay, some of our readers accuse me of being a CC hater; that’s not true. But I do want what I see on screen to match up with the hype. I thought she was excellent in her scenes with Mia/Melanie, going down memory lane with Bo, evading a confrontation with Hope only to get into a confrontation with Justin later. I think there is some Kurth/Chappell chemistry there, much more palpable than Kurth/Alfonso right now. Chappell’s scenes are understated this week, but I can tell that she is more comfortable now and getting into a groove.

ZINGER OF THE WEEK: Vivian: “I know that you’re going to fight this but I also know that one day you’re going to accept me as your mother.” Philip: “Well, if that’s true, then I guess everyone is right. I really am a son of a bitch.”

RANDOM THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: Is it L.A. or Salem? On Friday’s eppy, Philip and Melanie are dressed more for the beach than Xmas time.

Anna's motivation

According to Linda Hirsch's website, she's seeking revenge for Tony's death. She blames Stefano for his death.

More stupidity at NBC

Moronic fuckwad, Jeff Zucker, has re-signed for 3 more years at the PeaCOCK network. Jeff Zucker was the moron who said a few years ago that DOOL would be toast which caused a ratings crash. No wonder NBC is dead last in the ratings. Keep re-signing known morons like Zucker. News courtesy of the Hollywood Reporter.

Congrats to Ari and Kyle!

Arianne Zuker and Kyle Lowder are now proud parents of daughter Isabella, born earlier this week.

The kidnapper's voice...

...sounds like Anna DiMera! The Diva loves Prevuze. Excellent snarky blog.

spoilerish tweet pic of Anna DiMera

Leann is on the right wearing all black and black heels.

Leann Hunley SHOCKER!!!

Leann Hunley (Anna) has been secretly taping at the DAYS studio and Digest has the exclusive. "I was pleasantly surprised when I got the call. It came out of the blue," says the actress, who hadn't taped since March. "It was one of those, 'Would you be interested in coming back for a few days and then we'll see what happens.' And I said, 'Okay.' But they said that the caveat of the whole thing was that I had to keep it a secret. So, I didn't even tell my mother!" Anna will be revealed as Sydney's kidnapper on Friday, December 11. Tune in!

State of the Soaps

With the cancellation of ATWT, CBS President Les Moonves gave the following quotes:

“The days of the soap operas have changed very much. GUIDING LIGHT left last year. AS THE WORLD TURNS will leave this year. They had long and distinguished runs. And they're day is over.”

“Is it the end of an era? Sort of. Only the special soaps are going to survive. It’s certainly the end of the client-owned soap. All good things come to an end, whether it’s after 72 years or 54 years or 10 years. It’s a different time and a different business.”

For some time, we’ve all seen the writing on the wall – that daytime soap opera is dying, each show being picked off one by one. But are daytime soaps really dying…or are the networks using the recession as an excuse to kill them all off? The attitude of Mr. Moonvey makes me think the latter. My question to the networks is: what will they do once they’ve succeeded in killing off all their soaps and are producing trash TV on the cheap? Once the recession is over, are they really going to expect people to religiously tune in to LET’S MAKE A DEAL every day? Will the likes of THE TYRA BANKS SHOW survive for thirty years plus? I suspect that when times get better, these network execs are going to regret sacrificing these television shows to live on the cheap.

Also, my response to Mr. Moonvey is that the day of the soaps are not gone. I believe new soaps will continue to crop up, possibly on the internet or on other cable networks. What is over are the days of the Nielsen Ratings. The ratings system is a joke. How many people actually watch the soaps when they’re actually airing rather than via the Internet, iTunes or what have you? How many people actually even have a Nielsen box or are part of a Nielsen family? The networks have not changed with the technology of today; and I will not be convinced that these ratings reflect any kind of accuracy of how many people are really watching which shows.

Not that these soaps are not responsible for their own doom. How many times have we seen our favorite soaps spiral out of control over stupid backstage politics that effects the quality of the storylines that we’re seeing onscreen? How many times do we hear about the soap producers hiring their BFFs to work on the show rather than quality people that actually care about what’s going on? How many times have we seen the soap characters that we’ve lived with for years be miswritten to the point where they are no longer recognizable? The heart and soul of soap opera, the kind that existed in the 80s and 90s, seems to have all but disappeared. I believe that is because all of the soaps have been too “corporate”-ized. Accountants and pencil pushers are dictating the direction of the soaps more than those who created them in the first place.

While I’m still on the fence about paying for VENICE, I applaud the pioneers like Crystal Chappell, Martha Byrne and Tristan Rogers who are actually trying to keep the genre alive. Yes, right now the episodes are little five-minute segments once a week. But how long were soap operas on the radio when they first aired? There’s always the possibility that these shows will become longer if given the support. The networks obviously don’t give a damn about soap operas anymore, whether it will ultimately be to their advantage or not. Perhaps the audience should start to support the people really do care about the genre. That’s how those pioneers like Bill Bell, Agnes Nixon and Ted and Betty Corday got their start.

The Biggest Loser Finale

The Diva loves the Biggest Loser. For the first time, I'm really satisfied with who won.

Rebecca won for the contestants that were voted off. It was hard to recognize her because she bleached her black hair blonde. She beat Tracey, so that was sweet. lol Both of them lost over half their starting weight.

Danny was the biggest loser. He was completely unrecognizable at the finale. His face is so thin. I really liked Danny the entire season. He has such a warm personality. Danny lost 55% of his starting weight of 430 lbs. Danny lost 239 lbs to Rudy's 234. Absolutely amazing.

Shay continues to lose weight. Subway challenged her to weigh in again in May's season finale. Subway will pay her $1000 per pound lost.

Antoine proposed to Alexandra on the show. Both looked amazing. Antoine would easily win the award for biggest guns. Great arms on that guy.

Alison Sweeney looked so beautiful. The Diva is totally envious of her dress. Very stunning.

The next season starts January 5th.

Tuesday's eppy

"Grandpa, I had nothing to do with Sydney's kidnapping. It's my show now!"

Total snooze today.

Nicole and the gang: Nicole slips out of her hospital room. Rafe discovers her missing. Mostly bickering going on between Ejami and Stefano.

Carly and Bope: Hope leaves again. Bo brings up her leaving in the first place again. Lather rinse repeat. Bo convinces Carly to go back to living with him.

Vivian, Kate, and Victor: Kate's jealous of Viv's involvement with Victor and Philip. Wonderful bitchiness ensues. Viv and Vic aka Team V join evil forces to take down Carly.

Maggie and Mia: Mia confesses to not being comfortable around Carly. Hope pries info out of the unsuspecting teen about the bad vibes she gets from Carly. Congrats to Mia for being one of the few people in town to have a job that she actually goes to and works, unlike Arianna who has plenty of downtime at the Pub to deal drugs and make numerous phone calls to Brady.

Very blah episode.

"sitting here with my hand on my gun."

Here's a cheat sheet for Monday's eppy.

Nicole and the gang: EJ almost strangles her. Sami and Brady thinks she's telling the truth that she doesn't know what happened to Sydney. EJ doesn't believe her. Stefano shows up. Rafe gets snarky with him. Stefano warns Rafe not to leave Ejami alone. Stefano says about the Christmas pic of the 4 of them, Ejami and their kids. EJ is not happy to see Stefano. At the end of the eppy, EJ thinks Stefano took Sydney. Nicole seemed very believable that she doesn't know where Sydney is, but at the end of the eppy, she says something about keeping her daughter safe. Which leads one to believe she did set up this phony kidnapping.

Melanie/Carly/Mia/Maggie: Mel and Mia vote Carly out of the house. Maggie and Carly discuss the two girls. Later Carly ruins the Bope reunion by showing up at their doorstep again. Another pic of John Clarke's Mickey in the background.

Brady/Ari: zzzzzzzzzzzzz Ari wants to work things out. She tells Brady over his cell phone, but he's talking to a cop, and doesn't hear her confession of love. She thinks he ignored it. Mel tells Ari later to go for it because Brady is cute. lol

Bope/Ciara: Hope is at the pier with Ciara. She asks Ciara where she wants to hide Daddy's present. Ciara wants to hide it under her bed at her house. Bo shows up. Ciara gives money to an off screen Santa working for the Salvation Army. All 3 go to Bope's house. Bo and Hope playfully bicker a little. Hope wants Bo to tell her Carly's secret. Carly shows up at the door.

Line of the day: Melanie about Carly moving in, "Maggie's going to have to up her homeowner's insurance." lol

Another Soap Bites the Dust

Word is out that AS THE WORLD TURNS will not be renewed. Their last episode will be in September 2010. I've been watching the show for the last couple of months and am sad to see some of the characters go. Barbara, Henry, Lily, Damien and Meg were some really fun characters that I enjoyed watching. It's a shame to see them go for the sake of some cheesy cheap game show or tacky tabloid talk show or whatever the brains of CBS will come up with. My sympathies for all the long term fans who will be heartbroken.

Katie's review of Venice

ShareFrequent poster, Katie, was asked by the Diva to keep us updated on Crystal Chappell's online show, Venice, since we are all too cheap to subscribe for season one. Here's what Katie has to say about the first episode:

I have to give credit for tptb behind Venice, the show looks wonderful, the music goes well with each scene and the actors are clearly enjoying not being handcuffed by networks or certain sponsors. Venice also gives Otalia fans what they've been waiting for, the first few minutes of the web series features Gina played by Crystal Chappell and Ani played by Jessica Leccia in bed kissing and then alludes to a shower scene but its the dialogue and expressions from the two actresses that clearly show they are no longer portraying Otalia, Gina and Ani have there own issues to work through mostly because Ani wants a commitment and Gina doesn't then enters Galen Gering playing Gina's brother Owen. I admit I was surprised by Galen's casting but in the few minutes we see him, he reminds me nothing of Rafe Hernandez on Days of our Lives he and Crystal's Gina have an easy chemistry. The show is only 6 minutes but sets up the next episode well, soon Nadia Bjorlin and Leslie Kay will test Gina and Ani's “non” relationship and who isn't excited to see Hillary B Smith, Jordan Clarke, and Tina Sloan stretch their acting muscles without the confines of a network? Check out Venice the series at http://venicetheseries.com/ or their youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/venicetheseries. Also for those who cannot afford the subscription for Venice there is a thread on the Otalia Big Purple Dreams board that is offering to help pay for those in need, they also are accepting donations.

LOADED, starring Kevin Spirtas (Craig Wesley, DAYS) and Scott Kerns, Theater Row, NYC

WARNING: This play is not for the homophobic or the faint-of-heart.

There are a few good things you can say about LOADED. I liked the set. I thought the acting was excellent, for the most part. Occasionally, there was some dialogue that made me laugh. But overall, this play didn’t work for me.

Sometimes, you can just tell that plays are written more with the intent to explore a certain theme or topic rather than to actually tell a story. The action and the characters were secondary to the playwright Elliot Ramon Potts’s real interest which appeared to be to preach about the difference between being a gay born in the 1960s and a gay born in the 1980s.

The play starts out with Jude (Kerns) and Patrick (Spirtas) naked under the sheets after some hot sex. It’s clear these two guys don’t know each other very well; and it doesn’t take very long for them to get annoyed with one another, mainly because of the age difference. After a few snarky exchanges, I assumed that eventually one of them would say “Okay, this was fun” and call it a day. But no. They then proceeded to debate and discuss every gay topic under the sun and a few that aren’t, often with the result of personally attacking each other, getting hurt, making up, getting close to having sex again, only to fall onto another controversial gay topic, sparking another debate which would again get nasty. And this pattern pretty much went on for the rest of the play. There were some good points made which provided food for thought; but ultimately, this was pretty tedious to sit through for 90 minutes. If this occurred as a debate on CROSSFIRE or on a college campus somewhere, I could see it being pretty interesting – but it didn’t come across in a play. As a really really really long argument between two lovers, it was simply unbelievable and beating a dead horse as it was obvious that neither man was going to see the other’s viewpoint or even attempt to compromise. After a while, I no longer cared whether these guys were going to be together or not. I just wanted the monotony to end.

When the show wasn’t a dissertation on differing homosexual generations, it was mainly raunchiness and sex. I suppose how sexy Patrick and Jude actually were together is in the eye of the beholder. For me, the show seemed to be going for “no holds barred”, but the actors were working way too hard at it. It was all groping and rolling around on each other on the bed, but I didn’t feel much in the way of emotion – not even the quick and dirty thrill of a one-night-stand sex encounter.

Aside from the chemistry problem, I think that Spirtas and Kerns are both fine actors who did the best with what they had to work with. Every once in a while, Spirtas got to show his sense of humor (he did a really kickass Harvey Fierstein imitation); and he was very strong in a few poignant moments, like when the character of Patrick was remembering all of his lovers and friends who he had lost to AIDS. Kerns was a good acting foil for him, playing the younger lover who alternated between touching optimism and annoying self-righteousness.

For those Diva readers with more prurient interests: yes, Mr. Spirtas was as naked as a jaybird about ten minutes into the play. What can I say? Kevin has a tiny bit of a tummy and a little sag in the rear end, but for a 47-year-old, I’d say he’s holding up very nicely indeed. He has a pretty impressive package in front as well. I certainly wouldn’t kick him out of bed for eating crackers!

The Burn Victim Melanie

I can't watch this shit either.

Nothing but blah today. Biggest event was Nicole getting hit on the head and admitted to a hospital in Cleveland.

Carly, Carly, Carly. Phil and Bo talking about Carly. Bo and Roman talking about Carly. Man, Bo's a moron. How many times do we need to see him "help" an ex at Hope's expense? Bo bashing Philip for making snap judgments was totally hypocritical. How many times has he falsely accused someone of doing something illegal without apologizing?

Melanie and Arianna. For real, they were talking about Melanie's love life. Why? I didn't realize they were bff's. The Diva can understand Melanie's conflict. She knows the good guy is better for her, but the bad boy makes her weak in the knees. Do it the Diva way, Melly. Keep them both! lol

Carly and her daughter. Spoilerish. In case you haven't heard, Melanie is allegedly Carly and Dan's long lost daughter. I'm ok with Carly being her mom. But seriously? Dr. McCreepy her dad? Doesn't he enjoy dating girls Melanie's age? Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Why does Dan get another front burner storyline? The Diva doesn't think he's earned it. All of his relationships have been cringeworthy. Maybe Carly can get me to like Dan. Or Dan and Carly together might cause my head to explode. We'll see. In the mean time, I'm stocking up on duct tape just in case. Carly spilled coffee on Melanie accidentally. Mel and Mia voted Carly off Maggie's Island. Even Mia blew off Carly at the Java Cafe. Not a good day for Carly. But her hair look good, and really, that's what's important.

Kudos to the scriptwriter. The humor on the show the last few months have been superb. Philip was actually funny this past week. Let's hope that's a trend that will continue. JKJ was wonderful with Louise Sorel. Let's get Jay out of kiddie land and let him play with the big dogs.

VENICE for only $9,99

So the news is out today that Crystal Chappell's web series VENICE will be a subscription series for $9.99 with the first episode being free. It will premiere tomorrow.

I admit that I was going to check out VENICE, but now I may watch the free eppy and call it a day. It's bad enough to watch Nadia and Galen for free, much less paying for the privilege. But never say never. If the show is really top notch with excellent writing and suspenseful plot, then maybe I could see shelling out the money. And I'd also expect full frontal nudity from all cast members!

There will also be a DVD sold of the season when completed.

Salem's version of Lady Liberty

Crossdressing is fun!

Thursday's eppy was mildly entertaining.

Brady/Sami/Rafe/EJ/Roman. It was fun to watch EJ bash the hell out of Brady. Brady by far is the unanimous choice for dumb ass of the year.

Danloe. Ugh. Even once a week appearance is too much for those two. Lucas talks to Will and discovers that Chloe was the one who spilled the beans about Sami's pregnancy to Nicole. Lucas rips Chloe a new one at the hospital. Dr. McFeely bashes the hell out of Lucas. Seriously, I don't know why Lucas didn't kick his ass. I was waiting for him to throw a punch. Later, Lucas runs into Maggie, Salem's version of Lady Liberty at the pier.

Nicole and cross dressing Sydney. Not much going on there. Nicole gets second thoughts about leaving the country with her "son." lol She attempts a few phone calls.

Mel/Phil/Steph/Nate. Melanie gets busted kissing Philip at the Cheatin' Heart. Maybe it's just me, but if you want to stay faithful, you might want to stay away from places named the Cheatin' Heart. Nathan's pissed. Philip is smug. Melanie makes a good point that her and Phil wouldn't last longer than a day and a half. I can see Phil being interested in her, but I don't see why he's so obsessed. They had sex ONCE. He can download the session as many times as he wants. Stephanie gets a glimmer of hope that Nathan sees the light on Melanie.

Maggie/MICKEY HORTON. For real! We saw Maggie holding a pic of John Clarke, the only Mickey Horton. He's still out of town or something.

Not a bad show today.

12/2 review

I detect a pattern here. Monday yawn, Tuesday good, Wednesday yawn. Is DAYS really improving or is B&B really sucking?

Roman/Arianna – Whatevah.

EJ/Rafe/Sami – Sami, change your shirt! Please!

Brady/Nicole/Sydney –Note to dimwit Nicole: if you want to kidnap a baby and go on the run, you have to stop calling people, even with stolen cell phones. Did she learn nothing during all that time with Stefano as her father-in-law? I’d break into a dumb blonde joke if she were still blonde. And now she’s losing all her resolve. Go to Canada, Nicole. You can see DAYS one day ahead out there.

Vivian/Philip – Stolen embryos, stolen babies. Hard to keep up. But the Vivian/Philip/Kate parent-kid triangle (a la Sami/Sydney/Nicole) seems to have more pizzazz to it than the Stephanie/Philip/Melanie love triangle.

Stephanie/Nathan/Melanie – Jeez, Justin got over a gun shot over a weekend and it’s taking Stephanie weeks to get over her stupid sprained ankle? What a wimp!

SOD's best and worst of 2009

I'm only going to list the DOOL related ones.

Best Story: DAYS Baby Switch

Most Boring Couple: DAYS Daniel and Chloe

Best Returns: DAYS Carly and Vivian

Worst Psycho: DAYS Meredith

Worst Family: DAYS Kate's

Worst Exits: DAYS Steve & Kayla and John & Marlena

The Diva pretty much agrees with the DOOL related ones. The baby switch lasted too long. Danloe have been awful since day 1. Vivian has been amazing, the Diva is actually liking Carly too. Meredith as worst psycho was well deserved, very bad acting. Kate doesn't even associate with her sons anymore, I wouldn't qualify that as the worst family. The worst exits definitely belong to S&K and J&M, and of course SOD forgot Tanna.

What do you guys think?

12/1 review - Birdwatching in Salem

Hope/Carly – I think Carly seeking out Hope to make nice qualifies as the Second Good Deed of Saint Carly the Martyr. OMG, was that a BOPE kiss I saw? Quick, someone call Gary Tomlin before romance and supercouples invade soap operas again!

Roman/Bo – What da hell? Where does Loser Roman get off lecturing Bo about needing to let go of a woman? Can anyone say “Doc”?

Vivian/Victor/Kate/Philip – From birdwatching to starting up the Kate wars, Vivian was a delight on DAYS today. Her embrace of “baby” Philip had me cracking up. Now I can’t wait for the Vivian/Stefano scene that’s bound to come. A great moment when Kate mentioned to Stefano that his wife was back in town; and he had to pause for a moment to remember which one it might be.

EJ/Nicole/Stefano/Faye – I have a hard time concentrating past Nicole’s black Elvira hair when she was on screen. Yet another Tony reference today between EJ and Stefano. DAYS killed Tony off for no reason, but they just can’t seem to let him go either.

Gaby/Will – WILBY or WIA? You decide.

Arianna – Zzzzzzzzzzzz. I think there could be hope for this character if they gave her anything close to an interesting storyline.

Thaao and Leann chat this Saturday

Thaao Penghlis and Leann Hunley will be doing a joint chat at his website this Saturday at 3 pm on the West Coast.

Obama bumps off Charlie Brown

Seriously, wtf is he thinking? He's had months to decide on what to do with Afghanistan. Now he's bumping Charlie Brown's Christmas special? That's so wrong!

We're number 2!

Suck on that, B&B!

11/30 Review

So DAYS is tied with B&B with the HH ratings. It’s been renewed. There’s this whole renaissance going on with King Gary Tomlin at the helm. And yet, DAYS is still cranking out yawnfests like Monday’s show while James Franco on GH is pulling a 1.9. I don’t get it.

Rafe/Arianna/Gaby – I missed the memo sent to the Hernandez family that all of them were required to wear blue that day. Other than that, I wasn’t too interested except that I already like Will with Arianna better than with Mia.

Faye/Nicole/Sydney – I’m trying to drum up enthusiasm for Faye’s return, but she always struck me as a drippy pushover. The way Nicole emotionally manipulated her with one hand tied behind her back today did not do anything to persuade me to give up my opinion. For Nicole to turn to her family, who she would usually turn her nose up at, just shows how desperate she is. Who’s next? Brandon? After I remember the disaster of the LUMI wedding that he helped to ruin, I certainly hope not.

EJ/Sami – I wasn’t even feeling it for EJAMI today. All I really noticed was that I hated Sami’s red shirt.

Roman/Will – Maybe I missed something but why was Roman telling Will to ask around for younger kids who would have given Nicole a ride? Didn’t Gaby confess that she gave her the money for a bus ticket? Maybe I was nodding off and missed something.

Oh, well. The HARLY showdown seen in the preview gives me hope that tomorrow will be a better DAYS.
