Diva Picks - 10/26 to 10/30

WINNER OF THE WEEK – Vivian Alamain. Just for fucking being here!

LOSER OF THE WEEK – Poor Sydney Dimera. She’s gonna be such a messed-up bitch once she gets SORASed.

SCENE OF THE WEEK – Kate and Stefano’s reunion at the hospital. Full of flirtation and threats.

PERFORMER OF THE WEEK – Joe Mascolo. He had great scenes this week with Nicole, Kate, Sami and Maxine. He even made a scene with Mia entertaining. One of those actors who I’ll tune in for just to watch him read the phone book.

ZINGER OF THE WEEK – Stefano to Sami: “Will this rant ever be over? Maybe I could call the nurse and have her increase my morphine…”

FIRED VET MENTIONS OF THE WEEK – Stefano comparing Sami to Marlena, saying she had “her fire and her spunk…but no class”. And of course Sami referred to Stefano’s dead children…which counts as a Tony reference in my book.

10/30 - I’ll deal with her personally

A review of the Friday 10/30 episode.

EJ – Mia breaking up the potentially good EJAMI fight ticks me off even worse than Rafe. So now it seems that there will be some sort of Arianna/EJ stuff coming. The question is: Will EJ liven up Arianna’s scenes? Or will she drag him down into her pit of boredom?

Stefano/Nicole – Actually Stefano’s plan to have Mia say some anonymous guy is the father is a genius plan. Too bad Rafe’s gonna bust it wide open eventually. Steffy deserves it for being so inept at killing off the guy when he had the chance.

Chad/Will/Mia – The more dramatic the plot twists, the more Taylor Spreitler proves she can’t act.

Rafe/Arianna – OK, DAYS. You got me. I really thought Rafe was knocking on Sami’s door, not Arianna’s. You psyched me. Now can we get back to real writing now please, ‘kay? Enough of this exposition-crammed filler.

Sami/Brady – More yawn-inducing filler.

Carly/Bo – I wonder if CC was up half the night doing a VENICE shoot. She looked half asleep most of the time. Maybe she was watching too many Rafe and Mia scenes of today’s episode. But the Bo/Carly relationship is becoming more like it once was as they continue to talk…so some improvement.

Vivian – Okay, did all of the Alamains move to Morocco or something? What’s with the funky music? Now that there was the obligatory episode-long tease until the big reveal at the end…let the games begin!

10/29 review - Fire and Spunk but no Class

A review of the Thursday 10/29 episode.

Bo/Carly – Surprisingly boring filler scenes for what’s supposed to be the hot DAYS story right now…but I hope we haven’t seen the last of Omar.

EJ/Sami/Stefano – The beginning of the scene was lame with Sami running off on one of her tirades, spoiling all of Stefano’s fun. It got better when it became serious and she blamed him for much of what had gone wrong with her family. And of course, when Sami rightly pointed out to Steffy that most of his kids wound up dead, that was just crossing the line! Usually, I love Stefano’s dialogue…but “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world, but what cradle do you rock, Samantha?” was a bit too much, even for this Dimera lovin freak.

Rafe - Did DAYS really think they were fooling us that the SAFE reunion sequence was real when Sami was wearing a lilac shirt in her scenes with Rafe and a black and red outfit in her scenes with EJ? And it’s just like Rafe to interrupt what promised to be a great EJAMI fight.

Lexie – I bet it was really hard for Renee Jones to show up to work that day for such thankless filler crap.

Nicole/Chad – The Sydney crying voiceover cue when Chad said they’d be hanging out all of the time was pretty cheesy. But Baby Sydney made up for it with her phenomenal acting with freaking out when Chad held her and then calming down in Nicole’s arms. That kid will give the cat on Y&R a run for its money. As for Nicole and Chad, meh.

Stephanie/Nathan/Melanie/Phillip – At first, I was impressed that Melanie actually told Phillip off and threw blueberry…excuse me…cranberry muffins at him. I thought she was taking a cue from Brady Black about how to stop being a pushover. But then she had to call Nathan a comfy sneaker compared to Phillip’s sexy high heeled shoe. OK, I predict the death knell for Melanie and Nathan now. Sneakers don’t sell on soaps like high heeled shoes. Which is really bad cuz Nathan and Stephanie together are boooorrrinnng.

All in all, Stephanie, Phillip and Sami were competing for the most annoying character of the episode. And Sami and Carly were competing for the most pathetic crying moment. Should I weep for the dead baby that wasn’t really mine…or the husband that I turned into a filet mignon? You decide. Oh, Vivian…save us from this insanity!

Will this rant ever be over?!

A review of the Wednesday 10/28/09 episode.

Hope/Bo/Carly/Maggie/Justin – I was happy to see that Bo was a little more like the guy Carly knew in the 1990s today, risking all sorts of heat to keep her at the house and protect her from being arrested for murder. The repeated interruptions at the house were contrived and a little too corny to be humorous. But I did find it amusing that Maggie mistook Carly for Hope through the window. Those two ladies look very similar to each other. But I wonder who Hope thought Bo had brought to the house when she threw the blanket at him? Did she think he’d picked up a prostitute or a one-night-stand at a bar or what? Justin was as usual woefully underused today, philosophizing about life moving fast…and that was about it.

Phillip/Stephanie/Nathan/Melanie – More Stephanie/Melanie snarkfest, yawn. More Nathan/Phillip face-off, yawn. Another scene with the porn film couple, yawn.

EJ/Chad/Mia/Will – Mostly boring filler, saved by James Scott’s acting. I loved how he grabbed that puppy Chad by the ear and dragged him across the mansion. If he killed him with a blow of the belt like he did with Patrick Lockhart, then I’d be really impressed. Also, I liked how today we actually saw how EJ really needs Sydney and just can’t go there in order to let her go. As for the riveting scenes of Chad, Mia and Will, the less said, the better.

Nicole/Sami/Stefano – The Nicole/Sami scene was just another monotonous teaser scene that’s getting to be so been there, done that. But the show came alive when Sami walked into Stefano’s hospital room and gave him what-for. This is the Sami that I want back! And I’m glad Stefano can still bring out the mean streak in her, even if this scene is undoubtedly going to lead to more teaser. As for Stefano, he was hilarious with the zingers. I kind of like the flirting/bitchiness between Stefano and the head nurse. I fucking loved Stefano’s Call Button method at the hospital in order to have privacy. I’ll have to remember that if I’m ever unfortunate enough to have to spend the night in a hospital.

Beware of Greeks Bearing Gifts

A review of the 10/27/09 episode.

Carly and Bo – I have to say I found the Bo/Carly reunion disappointing. I wanted some sort of real shock or surprise from Bo at seeing her again after all of the years. Instead, he just seemed annoyed that she was there at all. Then their conversation deteriorated into sarcastic barbs and inane dialogue about diet beer. If you go back and see old Bo 80s clips, Bo seemed a lot more shocked at the sight of seeing Megan Hathaway again who had meant a lot less to him. If DAYS wants to hang on to GL fans, I’m not sure this lackluster reunion (complete with yet another Lawrence Alamain gutting flashback) was the way to do it. But then again, I also thought that firing six vets would cause the show to tank; but the ratings have improved so much that DAYS was renewed, so what the hell do I know?

Hope, Justin, Victor and Ciara – Again, I shake my head at how contrived Hope’s move to the Kiriakis Mansion is. If Victor is such a great BOPE supporter, where was his concern for them all of the other hundreds of times that they’ve split up? The jury’s still out for me on a Hope and Justin coupling. I want them to be hot together. I really do. But so far, I confess that I don’t see anything close to a spark yet.

Lucas, Nathan and Melanie, Maggie– Always great to see Lucas, but annoying that he’s being backburnered in rehab just to give Nathan some filler scenes with Melanie and Maggie. It was nice to see that Maggie and Lucas are making up though, one of the few genuine friendships that still exists on DAYS. And kudos to the Norm de Plume reference…and for Maggie being less judgmental.

Stefano and Kate, Nicole and EJ – So how many false teases are we going to have to endure to find out when Sami is Sydney’s real mom? Ugh. And just how long did DAYS make poor Arianne Zuker waddle around before letting her go on maternity leave? But forget Bo and Hope or Bo and Carly…the real supercouple these days is Kate and Stefano. They stole the episode with their humor, edged with malice. And I agree with Kate…those 30-somethings are pretty damned grim!

Diva Picks - 10/19 to 10/23

WINNER OF THE WEEK: Brady. Glad to see that he no longer played Nicole’s chump and grew a pair.

LOSER OF THE WEEK: Dr. Dan. Forget about condoms. Getting mixed up with this guy is obviously the best method of contraception. Just ask Chelsea and Chloe about that.

SCENES OF THE WEEK: The Chad/Nicole scene on the pier was pretty fun. Deidrick Casey played it pretty well…as for a few seconds, there was some real sense that Chad might have fallen for it. THE GRADUATE quote was funny…and the Misty Circle Locker Room Lolita reference was just downright excruciating for Nicole. And I never thought I’d hear anyone calling her a “hot old nymphomaniac”.

Okay, Diva Spy people, go ahead and accuse me of drinking the Kool Aid. I admit I liked Carly sneaking around the hospital, getting her glimpses of Bo and getting almost recognized by Maggie. Seeing Bo and Carly in the hospital gave me serious déjà vu, for better or worse. Also, Carly 2.0 seems to have more of a sense of humor already than Carly 1.0 which is an improvement. Not sure if the writing is really better for her character now…or if I’ve endured so much crap since the early 90s that I’m more tolerant. Go figure. I’m also liking the character of Omar. If the writers give him more witty dialogue, he could be a keeper. Don’t get me wrong. I’m still pissed about how BOPE is being broken up. Hope moving into the Kiriakis Mansion is just one more transparent connect-the-dots detail thrown into the mix to get Hope and Justin closer together. I just don’t buy that Hope would take up Victor’s offer after all the bad stuff that’s gone down with them over the years.

PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: Arianne Zuker. From throwing herself on Chad, throwing herself on Brady, guiltily taking Sami’s help, having a smackdown with Kate and hightailing it to Rio de Janeiro, we’ve seen Nicole desperately flailing all over the place to keep a hold on Baby Sydney. A good sendoff before AZ goes off on maternity leave.

ZINGERS OF THE WEEK: Carly to Omar before her hospital break-in - “There’s nothing to worry about. I’m going to be fine. Nothing ever happens in Salem.”

Stefano to EJ after he nearly spills it about Sami being Sydney’s mother: “I misspoke. I must have mixed up the interchangeable bleached blonde liars that you have sired children with.”

SCENE STEALER OF THE WEEK: Louise Sorel, watch out! Baby Sydney completely killed Nicole’s dramatic meltdown as the cutie took off her hat and picked at her nose during the whole poignant mother/daughter moment.

FIRED VET MENTION OF THE WEEK: Sami actually talked about John Black wiring money to her and used the money to help Nicole leave the country.

MOST BLOWN OPPORTUNITY OF THE WEEK: The reveal about Nicole’s switch would have been a perfect opportunity for Maggie to talk to Chloe about her experience with Janice when the biological mother took her away from her. If Suzanne Rogers is going to get the lion’s share of vet scenes, at least give her something with teeth.

RANDOM THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: Why is it that Baby Sydney seems to linger in the thoughts of men on their deathbeds? With Tony, Rafe and now Stefano going on about the kid when they were all struggling to stay alive, it’s getting to be a bit much.

Interchangeable bleached blonde bimbos

Get Stefano out of the hospital please!

Today's show was somewhat entertaining. Once again, it was the vets carrying the show.

Joe Mascolo was amazing. The Diva loved his line to EJ about his "interchangeable bleached blonde bimbos" that had his children. The show needs Stefano. I'm tired of seeing Stefano in a hospital bed near death. He needs to be out and about scaring the crap out of people.

EJ grabbed a clue. He thinks Stefano knew about Nicole's deception. It seemed like an odd guess on his part. Anyway, I was distracted by James' partially unbuttoned shirt. Yummy.

Nicole and Kate were great today. At first, I didn't see why Kate was trying to prevent Nicole from leaving. Kate and Nicole never liked each other, so that didn't make any sense. Then Kate advised Nicole to leave with Sydney so that Will wouldn't be saddled with his sometime girlfriend's baby. Great line by Nicole today about how she might stick around to seduce one of Kate's sons. lol

Mia/Chad/Will snoozefest again. I know that Sydney isn't Mia and Chad's kid, even if she were, I wouldn't want to stick cute little Sydney in a storyline with those 3. Keep Sydney with the vets so I won't miss her when I flip the channel on Mia/Chad/Will.

The Brady/Arianna scenes were worthless. Teresa Hartley looks like she's never held a gun in her life. I don't buy her as a cop. "Brianna" argued a bit, then ate, and had sex. blah blah blah. Even the set was awful. It looked like a little girl's bedroom. I think Arianna hides her Barbie dolls under the bed when men come over.

Victor convinces Hope to move in with him at the KiMansion. Considering Hope donated $500,000 to some charity, you'd think she could afford a hotel room or an apartment. I know DOOL is trying to save money by using fewer sets, but this is getting ridiculous. But we need Justin and Hope under the same roof for some sexual tension. I don't mind Bope breaking up. They bore me to tears. Bring on Jope!

Best actor/actress today:
the actress playing Sydney. The look the baby gave Nicole when Stefano called her on the plane was priceless.

Screencap by Chit Chat Haven

Dominic Monaghan on Desperate Housewives!

Dom is a triple threat this year. He's back on Lost as Charlie, he's the bad guy on Flashforward, now he's going to be on DH for at least two episodes. He'll be on for sure on November 15 and the 22nd.

It looks like he's going to be related to Edie Britt.

Casey Deidrick tweeted last night -- "OMG OMG I know who Chad's dad is. THE DA!!!! He's awesome!! Loved working with him:))" Hopefully this will give actor David Leisure a chance to have more to do, particularly if he gets involved in the Baby Sydney storyline.

Ratings Bump this Week

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. October 16, 2009 NBC’s “Days of our Lives” has extended its hot start for the 2009-10 television season with strong results for the week of October 5-9, delivering gains versus the same week last year of 13 percent in women 18-49 viewers and 21 percent in total viewers.

For the week of October 5-9, “Days of our Lives” (1.4 rating, 9 share among women 18-49, 1.0/7 among women 18-34) tied for #2 among network daytime series in both the women 18-49 and women 18-34 demographics. “Days” matched its highest women 18-49 rating in nearly 10 months (since the week of December 8-12, 2008), and matched its strongest women 18-34 rating in nearly four months (since June 8-12).

Compared with the same week last year, “Days of our Lives” generated increases of 13 percent in women 18-49 viewers (946,000 vs. 838,000) and 21 percent in total viewers (3.0 million vs. 2.5 million).

Season to date, “Days of our Lives” is tied for #2 in the women 18-49 race and ranks #2 outright in the women 18-34 category.

Season to date, “Days of our Lives” is up 10 percent in women 18-49 (920,000 vs. 839,000), up 7 percent in women 18-34 (362,000 vs. 339,000), up 11 percent in women 25-54 (987,000 vs. 887,000) and up 17 percent in total viewers (3.0 million vs. 2.6 million). “Days” is generating the biggest year-to-year total-viewer gain of any daytime series on the major networks and is the only daytime drama up in women 18-49 viewers.

Ratings reflect “live plus same day” data unless otherwise noted. Season-to-date figures are averages of “live plus seven day” data except for the two most recent weeks, which are “live plus same day.”

Diva Picks - 10/12 to 10/16

WINNER OF THE WEEK: I’m not a fan of Chad by any stretch, but I like the character a little better after he stood up to Nicole and EJ about trying to get his kid back. Apparently, we’re watching his Brady backbone form right before our eyes if the rumor is true that he’s Bo and Carly’s long lost love child. I still don’t know how he thinks he can raise a kid by himself though when he can’t even make good grades in school. I’d prefer to see him recast though. I really hate even giving him this title this week, but there really were no other winners.

LOSER(S) OF THE WEEK: Bo and Hope are equal losers. I still remember Bo in 1991 saying to himself that he loved Carly more deeply than Hope before he “married” Carly in Matzalan. And now he’s babbling away to Justin that no relationship of his was complete without the love of his life, Fancy Face. Why does he always have to pit these women in a competition to justify these relationships and proclaim which one he loves more? And then you have independent feisty Hope running to Daddy and Julie in her time of trouble, not calling Bo, dredging up every bad BOPE moment she can think of. It’s ridiculous how the writers are slanting this relationship so much in Bo’s favor in a transparent attempt to make the BARLY love affair to come more tolerable. Just too contrived and out-of-character for me.

SCENE OF THE WEEK: The scene where Chad confronted EJ that Sydney was his…followed by Nicole discovering this…followed by the EJAMI scene…was all soapy goodness.

PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: Got to give it to James Scott again.

ZINGER OF THE WEEK: Victor to Chloe when he interrupts a Danloe scrump session with Chloe half dressed - “Well, Chloe, why am I not surprised to see you looking like you always do?”

WORST WRITING OF THE WEEK: I love seeing Peter Reckell and John Aniston in scenes together and the whole Bo/Victor dynamic…but someone fire the scriptwriter. First, Victor shows Bo the newspaper with Lawrence’s picture and then he grills and lectures Bo not to run after Carly when Bo showed no indication at all that he was going to do so. It made no sense. Couldn’t the writers have come up with some way to get this exposition and history out without making this scene so sloppy?

RANDOM THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: As I remember Carly from the 1990s pre-Reilly, I also recalled what a perfect Superwoman Saint Doctor she was. And she’s at it again. So for fun, I’m keeping a list of all of her annoying good deeds.

Good Deed of Saint Carly Manning the Martyr #1: Saving Rafe from drowning, honoring her Hippocratic Oath, even while she’s running for her life after slicing up her hubby.

MOST PREDICTABLE MOMENT OF THE WEEK: I knew that Rafe would somehow save Carly from getting shot, even though he was half dead from drowning.

Thursday's Episode

Yes EJ throw Chad out on his ass. Why the hell did you ever let him in? Come on remember you are a DiMera and no little snot nose kid should be ordering you around. You should be protecting Syndey from the hands of Mia and Chad.

Save of the Day: Victor breaking up the Danloe scrump. I was just about to be sick. Victor also gets the highlight of the day with his zingers toward Chloe and her whoreness. Victor is stealing every damn scene he is in.

Miss of the Day: Ryan or was it Brian? Just shoot the damn gun and end the Carly misery or wait maybe it will be better to save that for Vivian.

Bo and Hope: What can I say I am with Bo on this one. Hope is being a total bitch. But I guess we can't really blame her, the writers need some reason for her to leave the house so Carly can move right on in.

St.Rafe and St.Carly: Now why isn't anyone talking about them as a couple? Even half dead Rafe still has to play the fucking hero.

Oh I almost forgot Mia and Will: zzzzzzzzzz That must have been when I fell asleep.

Please get Vivian to Salem as quickly as possible and bring Stefano out of that damn coma and back to Kate.

But hey we were spared the flashbacks and Stephanie

Sneak Preview of CRASH

Here's a little clip Starz put up on YouTube of CRASH. Stephen Nichols has tattoos, swears like a sailor and looks like a total badass. Oh, yeah, and he's in a scene with Dennis Hopper too. See the whole episode Friday night!

Wednesday's eppy

"You think me haunting you is bad, try watching DOOL everyday."

Wednesday's eppy wasn't much better than Tuesday's.

EJ v Brady. Loved it when EJ told Brady that Brady was in love with Nicole.

Baby Sydney is a total cutie pie.

Bad acting.
Poor Arianne. She had to make Mia and Chad look good. For Pete's sake people, would it kill you to emote some? Chad figures out that Sydney is his daughter without showing any emotion. Mia confirms it without any emotion. Come on!

Flashback city.
EJ's flashback of Sydney. Rafe's flashback of Sami. Carly's delusions of Lawrence taunting her. It's too much for one episode.

Thank God for small miracles.
Dr. McCreepy is resisting having babies with Chloe. His excuses were lame. I guess we are supposed to be interested in the mystery of why he doesn't want to make doe-eyed babies with Chloe. The Diva just doesn't care. I'm happy that there will be no Danloe baby any time soon.

Rafe and Carly were totally boring. Nothing new with them.

*yawn* This show needs Stefano and Kate back on asap.

Peter Reckell was on Buzzworthy Radio

He revealed that he and Kristian Alfonso are taping an episode of 30 Rock tomorrow. You can listen to the full episode here.

Stephen and Mary Beth in prime time!

From what I hear Stephen Nichols's episode of Crash should be this Friday night on Starz and if you have DirecTV you can usually catch it on channel 101 if you don't have Starz!

Also I wanted to say that Mary Beth will be on Nip/Tuck this season. No one really has a date, but we are for sure it is this season which I think starts tonight.

Ari interview part 2

Here it is.

Mary Beth Evans on Monk

MBE announced on her Facebook page that she is filming an episode of MONK this Friday. Air date TBA.

Tuesday's eppy

Is it 2 pm yet?

Holy crap, this Diva was bored. Nothing much happened.

Hope finally talked to Bo. She's putting Ciara into a private school. Wow, those solar panels must really be bringing in the dough!

Nicole told Mia to keep quiet again. Good luck on that. Mia seemed more concerned about Will than her daughter. Chad overheard something. Chad and Will had some pointless scenes. Blah blah blah.

James Scott stole the show again. He was teary-eyed all day. He was looking at pics of Sydney and tearing up. At the end of the show, he ran into Brady on the pier. Now, THAT looks juicy.

Brady confided in Melanie. She's very supportive of him. She had a good point. Nicole would have done what she wanted without his help. Molly Burnett is doing really well, good for her. She was clearly shocked by Brady's story by reading her face. Unfortunately, they wasted her in a scene with the increasingly bland Arianna/Lindsay Hartley. I have no idea why Arianna is even needed on this show. Anyway, Mel gave her Hell about squealing on Brady. We missed out on another girl fight at the Brady Pub.

Roman finally suspects that Meredith is behind Rafe's disappearance. Sami is so concerned about Rafe that she went to Grace's grave instead of trying to track him down. That doesn't seem like her at all. The old Sami would have moved heaven and earth to find one of her true loves. She prayed to Grace to keep an eye on her "daddy." Angel Grace got confused, and looked over EJ instead. Just kidding.

Carly and her manservant fished Rafe out of the river or wherever the heck they were. She gave him mouth to mouth and ripped his shirt off. lol He has hypothermia. Carly decided to take him to the nearest hospital to have his lymph nodes checked by Dr. Dan. Ok, I made that part up too.

Bo reads about Lawrence's murder in some newspaper. Justin needles him about Carly. Bo insists that his heart belongs to "his Fancy Face." He also insists that Lawrence was the love of Carly's life.

I hope tomorrow is better.

Diva episode 4 available

For those of you who missed our most hilarious show ever this past weekend, you can listen to it here. The Usual Suspects were there, FancyFace, Queen of the Night, and Saddle Shoes. Also we had some newbies, Orion, Scami, and Bleepity. Be sure to listen to Bleepity's hysterically funny story about a crazy customer at her work. The show is an hour and a half long, her story is at the one hour mark. Thanks so much for listening. We had such a great time doing it.

Diva Picks - 10/5 to 10/9

WINNER OF THE WEEK: Lawrence Alamain. Even though he’s having really bad hair days lately, I haven’t this entertained by a dead man on DAYS since Rex and Mimi made off with Dr. Rolf’s corpse back in 2000-or-so. I don’t even think he’s really dead. Just cause some lackey in the Alamainia said so doesn’t make it a fact. While I was not really a Carly or Lawrence fan, I’ll take those old flashbacks any day over yet another Will/Mia/Chad scene. A nice change of pace from the crapfest we’ve suffered all summer, although I don’t believe this new s/l will be the Second Coming that will save DAYS.

LOSER OF THE WEEK: Harold, one of the Dimera servants. His accusing Sami of “breaking the baby” was lame. The Dimeras really need better servants these days. Is the recession really that bad? Bart or Rolf could have shut the brat up in no time.

SCENE OF THE WEEK: It has to be the Nicole/EJ reveal…simply because it’s the beginning of the end of this monstrously long storyline.

PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: Arianne Zuker. I know I rag on the character of Nicole a lot, but it’s not because of Zuker’s acting. She was excellent this week. Particularly pathetic as she desperately kept scraping up the lies to feed EJ at the sight of the pregnancy pillow…trying to hide the truth when that time had long since passed.

ZINGER OF THE WEEK: Nicole to EJ: “Oh my God, would you listen to yourself? You put an innocent girl in a morgue drawer…and I’m in trouble for lying?”

MOST OUT-OF-CHARACTER WRITING TO SET UP A FUTURE PLOTLINE OF THE WEEK: OK, so I’m supposed to believe that Hope went away, didn’t tell where Bo where she was going with Ciara and wouldn’t even talk to him on the phone? And then I’m supposed to believe that Bo didn’t even care that Hope didn’t talk to him but was more interested in the mysterious in-flight phone calls? Hey, I like a good triangle…especially when all of the characters are evenly matched. But I hate it when characters are made stupid or thrown under the bus all for the sake of Da Plot. I actually had high hopes that the Carly/Bo/Hope thing to come would become a real triangle with all of the real good stuff that comes with one, but it’s already too plot-driven rather than character-driven right from the get-go. If this triangle had been set up in 1991 or so, then there might have been some good stuff to watch. Of course, that was before All-Powerful Crystal Chappell was owner of the Glittery Hoo-Hah.

RANDOM THOUGHT OF THE WEEK #1: Which flashback has been shown the most? Nicole switching the babies or Carly gutting Lawrence?

RANDOM THOUGHT OF THE WEEK #2: Glad to see Sami getting some of her Mojo back. Amazing how much spunkier she gets while Rafe is off drowning somewhere.

Judi Evans leaving ATWT

The final airdate for Judi is on October 30th. I can't say I was too impressed with her role of Maeve on ATWT. She was way too much of a stereotype and was wasted in that part. Can a DAYS return be far behind now that Justin's in Salem? Adrienne better get her man before he scrumps with Hope in an elevator!

Kate:Loving Wife or Black Widow

The Diva is trying to decide which our Katie girl should be? We hear her voice her concerns to Stefano about what he is eating and then turns right around and ever so innocently pushes him towards that coma by suggesting he try the rich sauce and then adds salt to his food. Is this the perfect opportunity for Kate to get her hands on the DiMera fortune and that sexy stepson of hers or will she be redeemed as the loving, caring wife of Stefano DiMera? Either way Lauren Koslow has been brilliant in her portrayal of Kate DiMera. She is keeping us guessing as to exactly what is behind Kate's recent behavior. The Diva wants to hear your opinions. Loving Wife or Black Widow? Which do you want for darling Kate?

Suzanne Rogers on WLS

A pretty interesting interview with Suzanne Rogers was done by We Love Soaps.

Along with talking about her early days on the soap, Rogers revealed that John Clarke has recently recovered from a mild stroke. Also, that she and Gary Tomlin have known each other for a long time. Since Tomlin seems to be more interested in hooking up with his BFFs rather than running a soap, this explains why Maggie is one of the few vets with decent airtime. My comment isn't meant to knock Rogers...but is meant to diss Tomlin.

Cutthroat SONY

If any of you readers watch Y&R, you’ve probably heard the shocking news that 30-year-long vet Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) has been written off of the show after contract negotiations with SONY did not pan out. For any of you who are pissed about the treatment of the fired DAYS vets, this is an interview worth reading…woefully all too familiar to what we saw surpass earlier this year on DAYS.

I can’t help but respect veteran actors like Eric Braeden who speak out about the unfairness of their position and how the soap genre is deteriorating from the inside and out. Just like how Tony Dimera was rewritten into a villainous corner before SONY, NBC and DAYS gave Thaao Penghlis his walking papers, Braeden’s Victor Newman has been written into seemingly an irredeemable corner, in spite of past character history. Seems like that this strategy is business as usual for SONY these days. The other strategy used is to try to backburn characters into oblivion, hoping that the viewers will be senile and stupid enough to forget why they liked said characters in the first place (see Marlena, John, Kayla, Steve and Anna).

Often, I get comments from indignant DAYS fans, wondering why I’m blasting the show so much all of the time. Do I want the show canceled? Do I want it to fail? Of course not. But I also want the show to be recognizable and not just some lower-tier ratings-sucking robotic clone with the same title. All of those praising Crystal Chappell and Louise Sorel to the skies in hopes of the Second Coming of DAYS, beware. Once these ladies have served their purpose for short-term ratings spikes, they are just as likely to be rewritten or backburnered into oblivion as so many of the other vets have been, particularly since they’re not part of that revered youth demographic (another point Eric Braeden makes in the interview). That is why I feel so compelled to speak out when I see the hypocrisy and the injustice of what is going on with the soaps right now. What is the point in becoming invested in any of these characters, actors or stories when the rug can be pulled out so easily from under them by a disgruntled headwriter or a greedy youth-obsessed network?

I do not feel that Eric Braeden and his ilk are spoiled soap actors that have to suck it up and get with these times of the recession…that they should shut up and take their lumps and like it. These soap veteran actors have given years of their lives to entertain us in an industry that has shown them no respect or mercy.

A clue to SONY as to why the soap genre is dying: Your shows are becoming unrecognizable and your viewers are becoming fed up of losing their favorite actors and characters because of your greed.

Hope or Carly?

So we know a triangle's going to come with Hope/Bo/Carly. Maybe it won't be for a few months or so...but it's coming just as sure as Xmas comes in December, mark my words. Thanks to DimeraLover for an mvid highlighting the triangle.

Monday's eppy

"Shh....don't tell anyone that I'm an actress on DOOL."

The Diva saw another hit/miss episode of DOOL today.

EJole again was amazing. James Scott is doing Emmy worthy material daily now. He was mocking, sarcastic, and hurt. Just brilliant. Arianne was wonderful too as Nicole finally told EJ most of the truth. You can see the burden being lifted off her shoulders.

The Bo/Justin scene at the Pub seemed bizarre. Why would Bo ask Justin, the man he accused of having an affair with his wife, legal advice on his marriage? I can see why he needs a lawyer. Hope's keeping Ciara away from him, and he doesn't know where. Maybe he should check to see if Larry Welch is truly, most sincerely dead. lol

The Carly/Lawrence stuff still seems a little out of place. Lawrence's death scene was a bit cheesy acting wise from Michael Sabatino. He overacted a bit. Carly wiped the bloody part of the knife on the inside of his jacket. I'm assuming she was trying to wipe off fingerprints, but why wouldn't she wipe off the handle instead of the blade? I did like the plane scene. It's hard to act with sunglasses on, but you could feel Carly's despair.

Brady wasn't happy that Mia blabbed to everyone about her daughter. I liked Mia being sarcastic to Brady, at least she showed a new emotion. I'm just not feeling the angst about breaking up with Will. She doesn't seem that annoyed about being with Chad. Taylor's just not running with the ball they gave her.

Sami's still unemployed. Today she hit up Maggie for a job. It's nice to have Maggie acknowledge Sami's lack of work experience, nice touch of reality. There were some great zingers by Ali today about Kate being her reference on death row. lol

Kate and Stefano dined at Chez Rouge. Kate seemed concerned about Stefano's management of his health. Unfortunately for Kate, all Maggie saw was Kate putting salt on Stefano's food. Stefano's a happy groom. He wants to wine and dine his new wife.

Chloe is not going to stay faithful for long. lol Was it just this Diva, or did she seem way too happy to see Philip today? She's not over him. Philip gave her annulment papers from Lucas and noticed her engagement ring.

Daniel seriously needs to stfu. He actually had the nerve to say that Lucas was childish and needed to grow up. Does the show really think we feel sympathy for the "victims" Danloe instead of the victim Lucas? Daniel practically called Chloe a martyr because she carries all the guilt. Guilt only kept her legs together for a few months. Obviously, Daniel has not guilt. I don't see how viewers are supposed to cheer for this narcissistic doctor.

Original Recipe EJ

A treat for those who missed EJ when he first arrived in town or for those, like me, who miss the real thing.

The Destruction of EJ DiMera

Once upon a time, a tall, mysterious stranger arrived in Salem wearing nothing but a towel…

And proceeded to turn Salem on its ear.

But sadly, everything has changed in a year and EJ DiMera has been robbed of his mystery and finesse by a team of writers bound and determined to iron out all the qualities that made his character unique.

The one attribute the DiMeras possess that Reilly and those who copy him never manage to get quite right is their complexity. It’s a family made up of people who are flamboyant, take risks and push the envelope of society’s rules to get what they want, even to the point of blatant disregard for morality but always with their sense of irony intact, and intelligence and a great deal of style. Fostering any character such as that takes attention to detail and whoever is responsible for the writing on this show since last September either doesn’t care, or is clueless as to what made EJ fascinating in the first place.

He’s not any longer. He’s ordinary and in the world of soaps, that’s a sin that ought to get a writer chased from the building.

The only flashes of personality EJ shows now are the ones I see when he’s allowed to be angry. Otherwise, watching him is as fascinating purely from a physical standpoint and as gorgeous as James Scott is, that’s just not enough day after day, especially when I remember what fun it was to have him entertain me just two years ago. The plot may have been crazier and not all that well executed but the dialog was sparkling in comparison, as was the personality of every DiMera on the canvas. Now they’ve been whittled down to three (not counting Sydney who has more personality than any character on the show, and it’s not exactly a coincidence that she manages that without any help from the writers.)

As THE DiMera left, EJ has been as thoroughly stripped of his personality by Higley, as Tony was in the 90s by Reilly. Both characters have gone from being strong forceful men to being walked on by everyone in their lives, especially the women. EJ isn't proactive any longer. He reacts. He doesn’t take intuitive. He’s not going after anything he wants the way he did when he first arrived in town. This man who was willing to go to almost any lengths to win the woman he loved married his current wife after revenge sex in an elevator produced a baby, one that’s been dead for almost a year now.

When the baby switch began, I kept hearing how wonderfully ironic this would be. Elvis, the product of a plot to help Kristen hold onto John was going to have to face being duped in the same way. And if this was the Elvis who arrived in town a few short years ago, the Elvis who mowed down everyone in his path to get what he wanted and did so with a style all his own, I’d cheer this storyline on, but he’s not.

There is no tragedy in this situation for EJ. In fact, this version of Elvis deserves what’s coming to him. He practically begged Nicole to lie and deceive him, not to mention made it possible with stupidity so blatant, witnessing it makes me cringe in embarrassment.

This was supposed to be the story of man so blinded by his own hubris, his fall would be entertaining to watch because of it...not merely because of his rage and grief...but because he brought it on himself with his own pride. In other words, the situation that was handed to Nicole instead, and personally, I wouldn’t have a problem with that if the writers bothered to remember that the person who needed to end up in that spot was the one whose personal history began mired in the same situation.

And before I’m accused of having agenda, I’ll say upfront, I’ve enjoyed Nicole from the minute she showed back up in town and I don’t even mind her with EJ. What I mind is how EJ’s character was sacrificed to drag this out for more months than was necessary.

It was EJ whose character flaws born of his own conceit should have landed him in this mess, not Nicole’s, and sure as hell not a monumental lack of awareness. After months was watching him ignore what was right in front of his nose, I’m supposed to believe that now he's recovered his brain? This EJ is worthy of nothing but pity and no DiMera ought to be reduced to such a position. That kind of character assassination is criminal.

Diva Picks - 9/28 to 10/2

WINNER OF THE WEEK. EJ DIMERA is the Proud Owner of the Salem Brain…as he finally bought a clue about just how badly Nicole has screwed him over. He’s finally waking up to smell the coffee…and it’s bitter coffee indeed.

LOSER OF THE WEEK. MEREDITH HUDSON is a cartoonish over-the-top villain who is taking part in a very PASSIONSistic plot. Why the hell should we care about any of this since Emily Hudson was never on our screens on the first place? First of all, Meredith, you need to build the secret room before you take the prisoner, you moron. Take notes from Stefano on that. Secondly, damn, if you like beating up Rafe so much, just kill the dude and put him and us out of our misery. To quote Billy Abbott from Y&R…give him the bucket and let him kick it!

SCENE(S) OF THE WEEK. I loved all the Dimera scenes on Wednesday’s episode, starting with my dream scene of Nicole and Kate confronting each other in the mansion. Loved the veiled threat with still-simmering chemistry between EJ and Kate – could a Stefano/Kate/EJ thing be coming down the pike? Loved watching Steffy try to Tiramisu himself into a diabetic coma. Loved Stefano proclaiming to Nicole “Give your new mother-in-law a big hug!” Good stuff…and not nearly enough of it.

PERFORMER OF THE WEEK. JAMES SCOTT rocked it this week. From his flirty scenes with Kate to his amazement with his father’s new marriage to his fury at Nicole’s betrayal, he was a pleasure to watch. So great to see EJ finally wake up from his Zombified Stupid Stupor of the last few months. I can only hope that the Bad Boy Dimera is going to wreak some havoc rather than sulk non-stop.

ZINGER OF THE WEEK. Nicole to Brady regarding her lie about him getting back on cocaine: “OK, what was I supposed to do, come out with the whole sordid truth and start looking for places to live on”

RANDOM THOUGHT OF THE WEEK#1: Every time Melanie and Nathan get close, Phillip comes back like a pesky STD!

RANDOM THOUGHT OF THE WEEK#2: All of the DAYS viewers who don’t get on the internet and don’t have a clue of who Carly or Lawrence are must be asking right now “WTF?”

They call me "tater salad."

Another masterpiece from the DOOL hair and make up staff.

Friday's episode was completely schizophrenic. Some of it was really good, some of it was craptastically bad. Unfortunately there was some fugly.

To be fair, I'll actually start with the positives. James Scott totally rocked the episode. No friggin doubt about it. He kept handing Nicole rope, and she kept pulling the noose tighter. Nicole has a huge "tell." She's thinking of a lie when she looks down to the left. Great job of acting by Ari showing Nicole coming up with new lies. So EJ finally knows some of the truth. About friggin time! I can't wait for Monday.

I actually enjoyed the Sami scenes today. Ali and Josh always had a wonderful father/daughter chemistry. It's nice to see a loving parental relationship that isn't dysfunctional. Ali looked very nice today with her job interview outfit and headband. Ali's scenes with Eric today were cute too. I'm glad that the show injected some reality here by having Sami have problems finding work.

The Bad
Taylor's bangs are back. The less said about the teen stuff today, the better.

Meredith is still bizarre. I don't feel any concern for Rafe. I don't get how Meredith was able to drag a grown man to the pier and push him off in broad daylight with no one noticing. But her masonry skills were excellent. lol Figures, we were this close to having another "buried alive" storyline. Once again, I would have been cheering for the victim to die.

The Fugly
Seriously, wtf was that scene with Carly and Lawrence thrown in at the end? It was totally out of nowhere. The Diva guesses that DOOL was trying to throw a teaser in there. It didn't work. The scene was completely out of place. This is not a good sign of things to come. All they had to do was tease the whole episode with just voices and shots of the set, until the big reveal at the end that it was Carly and Lawrence. The fugly was obviously Lawrence's hair. My goodness, he looks like the comedian Ron White. I bet they do call him "tater salad." lol

Austin back in Salem?

God, no...not again...

In Michael Fairman's Advocate interview, the possibility of Austin Peck returning to DAYS came up.

"So what if Days came a-calling and asked Austin back for a return engagement? Would he consider heading back to Salem? 'Oh, yeah, I would go back in a New York minute. There have been some calls. So we shall see.'"

Let us all pray to the Soap Gods that this is talk only. Two rounds of Assdumb Reed in Salem were two times too many. Shouldn't there be a limitation on how many talentless underwear models are allowed on a soap at one time?
