Post-Emmy Fashion Picks

So the Daytime Emmy Ratings have hit a new low at 1.6, but the CW had the highest Sunday ratings this year. Make of that what you will. I’ve also heard a rumor that ABC will do the show next year. Maybe the ABC execs got pissed that so many of their stars didn’t come home with the gold this year. Who knows?

As for the style and glamour, I thought it was a pretty interesting year. What I love about the Daytime Emmys is that soap stars don’t really follow the trends and all look alike, the way a lot of the actresses do every Oscar season. So there’s lots of variety and lots to look at.

Here are my Red Carpet Fashion Picks (only consisting of DAYS and ex-DAYS cast)

Tamara Braun – She knew how to work that streamlined 1940s-type glamour gown. A winner in more ways than one.

Nadia Bjorlin’s dress - Very Cleopatra. The most attractive awards dress I’ve seen her wear.

Arianne Zucker – Very stylish for a woman about to pop one.

Brandon Beemer – Not one of my favorites, but certainly knows how to dress for an awards show.

Blake Berris – I LOVED his hair!!!

Tracey E. Bregman – She played Don Craig’s daughter a long time ago, so she counts for this list. I’m sure a lot of people will hate her silver body-clinging dress, but I thought she took a risk and rocked it.

Judith Chapman – ex-Anjelica looked very Old Hollywood, but in a good way. Loved it.

Crystal Chappell – I only got a glimpse of her multi-colored dress during the GL tribute, but I liked what I saw.

Kristian Alfonso – At first, this was a winner until I took a closer look at it. I wasn’t crazy about the asymmetrical sleeves and the shapelessness of it. KA could do better.

Peter Reckell – Not at all used to him wearing glasses. Kind of cute and kind of “what the fuck!?”

Shelley Hennig – Simple black dress, classic but boring.

Darin Brooks – I liked the retro hair, but thought his clothes were kind of dorky.

Kyle Lowder, Suzanne Rogers, Molly Burnett, Kirsten Storms, Jay Kenneth Johnson, Casey Deidrick, Mark Hapka, Bryan Datillo, Eric Martsolf, James Reynolds – OK, but no comment.

Lindsay Hartley – Why is such an attractive woman wearing such a shapeless dress?

Felisha Terrell – Her fashion style’s as bad as her acting.

Taylor Sprietler – I think she was going for pretty in pink, but she just looked swallowed up in her big sister’s prom dress.

Rachel Melvin – What was she thinking?! What was that big humpish flower doing completely devouring her ta-tas and making her look like the Hunchback of Notre Dame in reverse? Rachel, Rachel, Rachel…?

James Scott – James, put on a fucking tie! It’s the Daytime Emmys, for the love of God!

Julie Pinson – This woman saved Rachel Melvin from my Worst Dressed pick. The black short dress along with the high pink heels looked silly. And without sounding too bitchy, she didn’t really have the legs to pull off this look either. Thumbs down!

Talk about the Emmys

We had our first broadcast on blogtalkradio tonight. Thanks to our caller and everyone in the chat room. The show should be ready for download tomorrow. We'll do it again sometime. ;-)

Congrats to Darin Brooks and Tamara Braun on their Emmy wins.

Diva Picks - 8/24 to 8/28

I’ll be honest with you, Constant Readers. This week sucked. It was hard for me to come up with any decent picks because it was five long days of mediocrity in Salem.

WINNER OF THE WEEK - RAFE HERNANDEZ. Before you all die of cardiac arrest from this choice, let me explain. No, he’s not my favorite character, but at least he’s adding two and two together. Thanks to him, this neverending Sami/EJ/Nicole baby mess is on the road to getting resolved.

LOSER OF THE WEEK – MIA MCKORMICK. This chick’s stupid enough to get herself knocked up her first time at bat. Stupid enough to give her baby away to Nicole and then keep whining about the choice she willingly made. And this week, in order to get away from Chad, she nearly got into a car with wasted Kinsey. And predictably, two seconds later, the car crashed. It’s a shame Mia didn’t make it to the car in time. Some characters are just too stupid to live.

MOST DISAPPOINTING BUILD-UP OF THE WEEK - So we’re following Bo and Hope into the cabin, having heard gunshots, ready to find their kidnapped daughter. The tension is building. Hope pulls back the blanket on the bed…to find a completely silent Ciara with a blank expression, even after Hope takes the blindfold and earplugs off. Jeez, how hard would it have been for the director to ask the kid to at least cry out Mommy or Daddy or something? To smile or cry or show any emotion at all? Come on, I don’t ask for much out of child performers, but can you imagine how a little Andrea Barber or Christie Clark (ex-Carrie Bradys) would have rocked that scene? And before anyone accuses me of trying to ruin little Lauren Bole’s self-esteem for life, let me just say that I don’t blame her but the director for being so sloppy as to let that moment slide.

SCENE OF THE WEEK - Although they were disturbing, I appreciated the hospital scene showing Bo and Hope’s concern that Ciara might have been molested. I particularly liked the moment where Bo talked with Roman, questioning himself on what he would have done if Ciara had been assaulted. Yes, I’ve read the stuff on the message boards from people saying that they don’t want to hear about stuff like this on the soaps, that we watch for escape from reality and all that. But most of us know that when a child is kidnapped, that sort of thing is a serious threat. I actually give kudos to DAYS to addressing it and not just ignoring the possibility. Also, the week was so lackluster that I was hard pressed to find a Scene of the Week at all.

PERFORMER OF THE WEEK – Sorry, folks. There ain’t none. I didn’t see one stand-out performance that impressed me. I was so looking forward to Kevin Spirtas’ return, but even he seemed to be flat. Since she’s only done one episode so far, I will give Lindsay Hartley honorable mention. Already, she is playing Arianna with the self-confidence and moxie that the character lacked when played by Felisha Terrell. I never lowered myself to watch Reilly’s dreckfest of PASSIONS so I can’t say if she’s doing “Theresa 2.0” or not. But she’s off to a good start. I’ll give her that much.

LINE OF THE WEEK – EJ to Sami: “Samantha, you don’t need any help from me when it comes to alienating men.”

Pre-Emmy Party pix

Here are Alison Sweeney's Pre-Emmy party pix from Twitter.

Reckell in the Big Apple

Peter Reckell appeared at the NYC NBC Experience Store after his appearance on the Today Show this morning. A member from the Diva Spy Network can say that he still has to make up an acceptance speech if he should win for Best Actor in the Daytime Emmys; and that interesting stuff will be coming with Hope, Bo and Carly this fall. Also, his 22-month-old daughter likes to take pictures of him on the TV set (revealed through a phone call with wife Kelly Moneymaker). He will be at the Emmys on Sunday night.

Another Wawame creation!

She's the shit, seriously. Thanks girl!

Emmy Predictions

Debbi Morgan (Angie, AMC) – Yes, Debbi’s scene was yet another “back from the dead” storyline. But this one seemed to be done a little more realistically and heartfelt than I’m accustomed to. I was never an AMC watcher, but I remember how popular Angie and Jessie were in the 1980s. If she doesn’t get it, then my bet’s on Jeanne Cooper who was hysterical playing her double roles.

Peter Reckell (Bo, DAYS) – And I’m not just saying this because I’m a long time DAYS watcher. Reckell’s come a long way over the years. His problem is that he has to have the quality writing to rise to it. I wouldn’t say he’s one of those actors who can entertain just by reading the phone book. I’ve seen him in plenty of triumphs and plenty of duds. But this last year, he triumphed right around Emmy season; and I’d love to see him acknowledged for it. Tony Geary and Christian LeBlanc had entertaining reels, but they didn’t particularly surprise anyone with their showcased material. But I think Reckell’s proven to the industry that he’s more than just a bearded hottie on a motorbike.

Bree Williamson (Jessica, OLTL) – I wasn’t terribly impressed with this category. Williamson seemed to have the most variety to her performance compared to her competitors, although during her funeral breakdown, she would occasionally get downright shrill in all of her ranting. I like Tamara Braun, I don’t think she will get it because her storyline is just too over the top for the Emmy judges to relate to.

Jeff Branson (Shayne, GL) – A good solid performance. I think the Emmys will throw this bone in the direction of GL out of a sympathy vote. All of the supporting actors were excellent. Second guess – Van Hansis for the Luke/Noah romance. But I sure wouldn’t mind seeing Bradford Anderson get it for his amusing character of Spinelli on GH.

Rachel Melvin (Chelsea, DAYS) – I admit in this case, being a long-term DAYS watcher may be keeping me from being objective. But I find her scene with Hope still moving all these months after the fact. Rachel was always great with relaying Chelsea’s guilt over the death of Zack; and in this scene, that guilt was never more palpable. Kirsten Storms is my second choice; although for those of us who saw her as Belle, we knew that these kind of emotional storms were not really anything new.

Blake Berris (Nick, DAYS) – OK, I’m a Blake Berris fan; and I know I’m not objective about him. Even though DAYS threw Blake under the bus, he went under the bus with a bang rather than a whimper. Psychotic, nerdy and heartbreaking, it was a crazy rollercoaster ride watching Nick Fallon unravel before our eyes. Shame on DAYS for throwing this actor away.

The Bold and The Beautiful – AMC and DAYS canceled each other out with their disaster storylines, making B&B stand out in the process. Even I teared up watching the Katie flashback sequence before Storm committed suicide…and I’m not even that much of a B&B watcher. It had to be even more powerful for the viewers that were really invested in the soap and the characters. Sometimes B&B can be way over-the-top and wacky, but in this case, it hit the mark when it counted.

One Life to Live – I give it to OLTL just because I love this show’s sparkling sense of humor and dialogue. I believe this is the first time a soap character hovered over death in the midst of a reality game show which was kind of a funky twist to everything, even if it did seem a bit ripped off from SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE somehow.

Days of Our Lives – Out of this nominated episode consisting of 19 characters, only 9are still on DAYS today. Too bad the actors couldn’t survive the disaster of Gary Tomlin as well as their Salem counterparts could weather that plane crash. The scenes were riveting with the acting, the lighting, the music, the crazy camera angles, the eeriness and horror of it all. And even though he was not the director, I believe Ed Scott should get the credit for what we see. Ken Corday should go with balls-in-hand back to Ed Scott and beg him to come back (and give Scott creative control of the show while he’s at it, so that crybabies like Dena Higley won’t run the show into the ground with all of her blogs and threatened lawsuits). Salem needs Scott to survive next year much more than the likes of Crystal Chappell and Louise Sorel.

These Emmy picks were submitted by FancyFace who will be co-hosting with the Diva at the Emmy podcast on Sunday night. Come join us and let’s dish!

The Diva's First Blogtalkradio show this Sunday!

We're proud to announce that the Diva and various astute members of the Diva Spy Network will do their very first blogtalkradio show this Sunday at 11 pm est after the Emmys. Our first show will only be a half an hour long due to Monday being a work day for a lot of us. We are planning on doing a full hour show eventually. The show will be mostly commentary, but we may fit in a few calls if we have the time. You can call using the Listener dial-in number: (914) 338-1239. It is a call to New York. Long distance charges apply. Or you can listen to the show and chat about it in the super cool chat room.

Hope to see you there!

Some scoops from Thaao and Leann's chat

Thaao's show "Emissary" got picked up. More details to follow in a few weeks. He also hinted that he may be on prime time soon. Leann enjoyed her time on Law & Order. John DeLancie, ex-Eugene Bradford, wants to do a project with them. Joe Mascolo called Thaao this morning to "scream about DOOL." Thaao mentioned that his book and his show (The Diva is assuming his travel show) will be out at the same time.

Leann mentioned how Quinn Redeker (Alex Marshall) would learn his lines at the last minute and improvise. He called Anna "saddleshoes" when it wasn't in the script.

They both seemed interested in All My Children moving to LA in December. Anyone else have more info from the chat?

Burlington Charity Event off to rocky start

So far, it's been a bumpy road (literally!) for the stars attending the Burlington Charity Event this weekend. Nadia Bjorlin, Shawn Christian and Eric Martsolf were in a car accident in Boston yesterday. Nadia tweeted that they were all okay. Later on, Galen Gerling tweeted that his flight (the same one James Scott was also taking) was canceled. Hopefully, all will be well for the event today. If you're going, the Diva hopes you get hugs and kisses from the one that you love!

Diva Picks - 8/17 to 8/21

Winner of the Week: NBC.COM for finally getting out of the Stone Age and airing DAYS episodes on their website. You still have to sit through a commercial every five minutes, but at least the quality of the video is excellent. Also, so far, it seems that NBC is posting the episodes faster than those that put them out on YouTube. Hopefully, the website hits and ad revenue will help DAYS stay afloat during these perilous times of the daytime soaps. Whether PASSIONS LITE deserves to survive is debatable…but I give NBC some kudos for the pretense that they give a shit.

Losers of the Week: PHILLIP KIRIAKIS AND MELANIE LAYTON. With all of Pretty Boy’s money, he can’t afford to take Melanie to a decent hotel before he does the nasty with her? He couldn’t even spring for the Salem Inn, for fuck’s sake? Oh, I heard the lame excuse that he didn’t want to be caught with Melanie where he might be recognized. Yeah, right! The guy can manage to creep his way into a morgue drawer but can’t keep a low profile in a hotel? Whatevah! Then to make matters worse, he professes his love for Stephanie the very next day, dumping Melanie like a used washrag. I believed his promise to stop being a big bad Kiriakis about as much as I believed him when he told Melanie that he was over Stephanie. Okay, he’s got a nice set of dimples…but what a loser! He was a loser back in the days when he was calling Chloe “Ghoul Girl” and he’s still every bit as insensitive a jerk now. And speaking of losers, why did Melanie bore us all with that diatribe of how she didn’t want to be second best to Stephanie…and yet the dumb bitch has sex with Phillip in a motel so sleazy that the manager assumes she’s a hooker? Why did she brag to Arianna the next day about her score like she was a dumb high school jock? At least, DAYS didn’t insult the viewers with a pathetic twu wuv song like they did when Danloe first made out. Quite appropriately, this pairing was accompanied by that awful porn music the show likes to schlep out every once in a while. And we’ve already been blessed with at least two flashbacks of this latest skin flick so far. And now it seems that some whack job wearing a beret is planning on making a major motion picture out of it.

Scene of the Week: CIARA’S IMAGE ON THE COMPUTER. I hate Bo’s weird Celeste Perrault-like visions. I hate how Hope laid into Bo a few months ago for not trusting her with his visions, and is now distrusting him with those same visions due to her blind panic. I hate that the writing is so obviously leading to a BOPE breakup, just in time for Carly Manning’s return…and methinks Justin might get involved in all this mess too (I wouldn’t even mind a Justin/Hope affair actually if I thought there would be any real support for them as a couple; it would give Wally Kurth a love scene and Kristian Alfonso more storyline). But I have to admit that when Ciara’s photo showed up on the computer at the Salem Police station, that whole scene was pretty horrifying and powerful, especially if you’re a parent while watching. Kudos to little Lauren Boles (Ciara) for just being there. She is so cute and so physically right for the role of BOPE’s daughter that she adds a little more juice to this story. Yes, it’s disturbing and intense…but I find that preferable to boredom.

Performers of the Week: PETER RECKELL AND KRISTIAN ALFONSO. While I stand by my opinion that this is all rehash, no one can quite do rehash like Peter and Kristian. After the third go-around of a “losing a child” storyline (the fourth if you count Hope’s miscarriage in the mid-80s), I wouldn’t blame them if they phoned their acting in this time around. But their performances as Bo and Hope, fluctuating from horror to anguish to blaming each other, rises above all of the dreck and makes this stuff watchable, perhaps even entertaining…despite everything.

Line of the Week: KATE (to Daniel, regarding his situation with Chloe): “You’re kind of like an animal, rutting around on a field with the doe-eyed slut. And then when you find out she doesn’t want to be with you anymore, what do you decide to do? You decide to kill her.”

Rewriting Alert of the Week: EJ to VICTOR at the Kiriakis/Dimera Ciara Summit: “Now we do a lot of bad things in this world, all of us. But I can look every man I know in the eye and I can tell him why. What we do not do is harm children. And if anybody ever took a child from me, I would make sure that that person and anybody that supported him died a slow and painful death.” Oh, really? So I guess I just imagined Joe Jr.’s kidnapping last year when Stefano took over the hospital? And the attempt to get stem cells from Sami’s twins a year before that in order to keep Stefano alive? I know this is all set up for the Nicole downfall…but jeez, Dena, do a little fucking research, would ya? 2 years is not that long ago. Hard to believe, but you might still have some viewers that haven’t left your show for greener pastures since those days.

Anyone remember the "Tony" and Kate limo scene?

The Koz is interviewed by SOD. Stefano/Kate spoiler! The Diva would love a Stefano/Kate coupling.

Peter Reckell signing in NYC

Peter Reckell will be making an appearance at the NBC Experience Store in NYC on August 28th, two days before the Emmys.

DOOL rips off Ransom

Just from reading some summaries of the soap mags, the Ciara kidnapping storyline is an exact rip off from the Mel Gibson movie, Ransom. In Ransom, Mel's character instead of paying the blackmail money, offers it up as a ransom. One of the kidnappers kills the other kidnappers to collect the ransom. Yep, DOOL is doing the exact same storyline. Dean kills the other kidnappers and appears to be the hero. Seriously, is this the best way to break up Bo and Hope before Carly's arrival? They had to rip off Ransom? The Diva is rolling her eyes.

Judi Evans on Buzzworthy Radio

Major Divalicious News!

The Diva and the Diva Spy Network are proud to bring you their own blogtalkradio show. We are all very impressed by blogtalkradio. Hopefully you all can join us some time to chat about Days of Our Lives and the show's online community. Currently, we do not have a scheduled show as of yet. We want to do a practice run first. lol We'll announce a show time next week.

The show is quite simple. Click on the link to listen to us. There will be a live chat room. We will be taking calls from Diva fans. The guest number is 914.338.1239. The number is a New York call, so all long distance charges will apply. So think of some questions to ask the Diva. Any douchebags will be hung up on. lol

I hope you are as excited as we are!

Rehash of Our Lives

So this week we’re obviously in for a lot of teeth gnashing and grief as BOPE search for their kidnapped daughter, Ciara. I’m trying to care. I really am. But this is just rehash one time too many for me.

Back at the beginning of the decade, Kristian Alfonso gave a wonderful performance when J.T. was assumed dead only later to be taken away by his biological parents back in 2001 or 2002, whenever the hell it was. She should have won an Emmy. She kicked ass with the Zack death storyline. Who can forget Hope’s primal scream in the hospital when she learned her little boy was dying? She didn’t win an Emmy that time either. And now, as a viewer, I’m supposed to mentally gear up for more Hope dramatics with Ciara’s kidnapping. And I just can’t.

The surprise is that Peter Reckell seems to be more on his game this time around. Perhaps his own relatively new parenthood has given him more to relate to with this kind of story. When Bo was describing what Ciara was wearing before she was missing, his agony was palpable. Even the stupid plot of his ESP or whatever became a little more watchable when he was horrified to see that his nightmarish vision come true when he found his daughter’s abandoned teddy bear in the park. So much for Douchebag Nelson’s October 2007 article that Reckell was one of the 20 worst soap actors. I’m sure Peter is crying about that insult all the way to the red carpet when he goes to the Emmys this year.

Kudos that BOPE finally have something to do besides hang around at the cop shop…but for the love of God, why doesn’t PASSIONS LITE give them something else besides this same old “lost child” storyline? I keep hearing these various podcasts go on about how much the DAYS writing has improved since they let go of the vets. Oh, really? BOPE is losing a child for the umpteenth time. Kate is being a mom a little too freakishly concerned about her son’s lovelife for the umpteenth time. Stephanie/Phillip/Melanie and Nicole/EJ/Sami seem to be in these triangles that will go on for the rest of all time. Wow, I’m so impressed with all this rehash writing. Woo-hoo!

PR and KA took very public paycuts during this whole economic crisis without bitching about it in blogs and twitters. Seems the least PASSIONS LITE could do is give them something beyond a rerun of an old storyline. Granted, BOPE have done practically everything that a supercouple can do. Back from the dead. Check. Multiple personalities. Check. Adventures and mysteries around the world. Check. Divorced and remarried. Check. Infidelities, miscarriage, difficult stepchildren, who’s the daddy…you name it, they’ve done it. But if we’re going to repeat history, let’s bring BOPE back to their glory days when they were off on their crazy adventures around the world, even if they have to make out in the L.A. grass and pretend it’s New Orleans. That’s when they were the couple I loved.

Emmy Reels!

Thanks to Toniann for the link!

If anyone watches them, post your predictions based on the clips.

Deidre to AMC?

Take it with a grain of salt since it is The Douchebag, Nelson Branco spreading this rumor. I wouldn't be surprised if ABC is just throwing Deidre's name out there to scare Susan Lucci into staying with All My Children when AMC moves to the Left Coast. Obviously the Genie Francis rumor isn't true since she lives in Maine or something.

If Deidre goes to AMC would you watch if you never watched AMC before? If you do watch AMC now would you watch without Thorsten Kaye or Susan Lucci?

Congrats to the Skorks!

You guys made it into the SOD insider email about the "best to the best" campaign for Stephen and Mary Beth to join Y&R. Good luck!

Stating the Obvious

I just read Carolyn Hinsey's It's Only My Opinion column in SOD. Here's what she had to say, "There is some really bad acting going on among the younger set right now. A few actors on DAYS and AMC are so green, I can literally see them reviewing their stage direction in scenes. 'Turn around, hand on hip, say line.' This is not the way to save our genre. Being pretty doesn't matter if an actor can't believably lie in a hospital bed. We don't have the luxury of allowing 'actors' to learn their craft on-screen anymore. Tick-tock, people."

Big fat "duh!" on that one. Haven't we all been saying that for years? Which actors in particular do you think she's bashing?

Another Wally Kurth interview

Here is another Wally Kurth interview, courtesy of MercuryNews.

Diva Picks - 8/10 to 8/14

Week of August 10th to 14th, 2009

Winner of the Week: JUSTIN KIRIAKIS. He had me at “Hello Everybody”. At the sight of that grin and those dimples, the 1980s fangirl in me couldn’t help but smile at the sight of Wally Kurth. Yes, I’m still pissed off about Drake and Deidre and Stephen and Mary Beth and Thaao and Leann…but even so, it’s nice to see Wally there. He probably won’t get any decent scenes while he’s in Salem, but at least he’s a reminder of what DAYS was before it started to suck.

Loser of the Week: STEFANO DIMERA. So much for big goals like faking deaths, planting bombs all over Salem, inventing alter ego clones, et cetera. Now Steffy spends all of his time trying to break up SAFE. This face-off with Rafe just proves my point that DAYS is trying to make him Roman Brady 5.0 (not to be confused with Wayne Northrop 1.0, Drake Hogestyn 2.0, Wayne Northrop 3.0 and Josh Taylor 4.0). The villain of the 80s would never pay Dr. Baker any blackmail money; he’d just kill the bastard. The Phoenix really needs to get his mojo back.

Scene of the Week: EJ AND LEXIE AT GRACE’S GRAVE. EJ admits to Lexie that Sami still lingers in his mind. Nice to see EJ actually do something besides be snarky and bicker with Nicole day and night. And I swear the ghost of Michael Jackson was singing “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” in the background of the graveyard.

Performer of the Week: SUZANNE ROGERS. Although I’m trying to wrap my mind around the idiocy of Lucas still socializing with Kate while treating Maggie like she’s a mass murderer, Suzanne Rogers actually made me care. It would be a shame to see the long friendship of Maggie and Lucas destruct over the likes of Danloe.

Line of the Week: Justin – “And let me get just one thing straight before we get started. I’m a Kiriakis. I don’t lose.”

Nielsen Ratings Over?

The Networks are banning together to create their own system operational in September. The Diva thinks this is a welcome change. Nielsen ratings is an antiquated system.

Ali's Mommy Diet

Alison Sweeney, mom of two, host of "The Biggest Loser" and star of "Days of our Lives" is taking on yet another project – book author.

She is writing a lifestyle book called The Mommy Diet, due to be published October 2010. She told ET that "it will include tips and suggestions about nutrition, clothing, fitness and recipes. Kind of a day in the life."

Sweeney was inspired to write the book by the people constantly asking her how to lose weight after having a baby. She isn't just about getting into picture-perfect shape though.

"Obviously, I want to embrace the fact that what we just did is pretty spectacular. You just had a baby and you should be proud of that and not worry about how your body looks afterward.

"Of course, there are a lot of healthy things you can be doing to help yourself get back in shape because you want to be happy with what you see in the mirror, but you really should be proud of that little belly you got because it produced something spectacular."

Seriously. Isn't that the truth?

DOOL Emmy presenters are...

Jay Kenneth Johnson and James Scott.

Are any of you guys going to watch?

A Day in the Park with...

...Days of Our Lives.

The New D.A.

If you’re like me, you saw the new D.A. in Salem and said “Who the hell is that guy? I know I’ve seen him before.” David Leisure was not only recently on Y&R as “Roger Wilkes” but he also was one of the regulars on the sitcom EMPTY NEST and THE GOLDEN GIRLS as “Charlie Dietz”. For you young ‘uns out there, sitcoms were the shows that used to be on the air before the reality show crap took over everything. Undoubtedly, the new D.A.’s getting set up to go head to head with Mr. Justin “Dimples” Kiriakis. Although we probably won’t see Justin be a wildcat in the bedroom (since he is over 30, after all), maybe we can at least see him be a tiger in the courtroom.

Ducas or Dandy?

The Diva thinks Days is ready for it's first gay relationship. Let's face it the writers can't decide which straight couples to put together so why not explore a gay relationship? After hearing how the Days actors have seen the potential in Dandy and then after watching Lucas and Daniel go at it in jail, The Diva is liking a gay storyline all the more. Lucas has come alive around Daniel and the PASSION was just pouring out of him. Brady might be a little more exciting and even loosen up a bit if paired with Daniel. So who do you want to see as Days first openly gay couple? Ducas or Dandy? Or does anyone see another pairing that could be interesting in a gay relationship storyline? Tell The Diva your thoughts.

Crystal Chappell chat

Last night, there was a live chat with Crystal Chappell. Mostly it was all about GL and Venice. Here are the DAYS tidbits brought up.

Q: Are you nervous about going back to Days considering the fans are outraged about so many veterans being cut? CAN'T WAIT FOR CARLY 2.0!

A: I'm excited about going back to Days. I hate it that so many were cut but I try not to connect the two. Things change quickly. You never know when people are going to come back. This is going to be a lot of fun.

Q: Hey CC! Thanks so much for all that you do. Much love and respect. I’ve been a fan of yours since DOOL. Carly and Vivian have quite the history. Will Carly and Vivian still be at odds?

A: Oh, I hope so, hippie! Don’t know all the details on that, but there’s a lot between the relationship of those two characters and they’re at odds. It’s a delicious relationship! The character (Carly) is coming back for other characters besides Bo and Hope. She’s not being brought back just for them.

Q: Crystal, thanks for doing this tonight, love ya. Can you tell us how you are being brought back to DOOL and for what characters?

A: I'm coming back as Carly? Is that the question? LMAO.

Q: What reason?

A: All I can say is it's a very new Carly.

This is the latest freak show who has been spamming the blog with anti-Thaao and anti-Thaao fans comments. The person who he stalks doesn't even post here from what The Diva knows. Anyway, days999 from the about.days message board is such an obsessed freak that the mod there had to make a sticky thread banning any more Tony bashing threads. Notice one poster on that thread accurately pointed out that ONE PERSON was starting all these anti Tony threads. Notice how bitchy the mod got about that accurate information. Seriously mods, if one person is causing trouble on your board, deal with them. Don't be such a chicken shit about it.

Please don't start any more Tony threads in the Bash section for the time being. We have three different Tony threads in the Bash folder section already, which is plenty. I understand there are those who just don't like Tony, but starting three different threads devoted to what Tony has done wrong is going overboard. Any new threads with Tony's name in them I will close. It's getting redundant and surely we can select one of the open topics if we need to discuss Tony.

Yes, all the Tony bashing threads are redundant and all were started by the same person but notice you direct this to 'all'.

On a lot of forums you would not be in the minority. When someone is so intent and goes overboard with the bashing it is only meant as bait to try and cause trouble.

Well, this isn't the first time you've been so critical of me. I did a great interview on James Scott a few weeks ago and you were only critical that I didn't directly answer one little question of his. Sorry that you have such a negative opinion of me. I'm closing this thread, point has been made.

Diva Picks - 8/3 to 8/7

August 3rd thru August 7th

Winner: Lucas. He found out his wife was cheating on him with the family doctor, that his mother was responsible for poisoning said unfaithful wife…and he still managed to make it through a whole week of episodes without getting plastered.

Loser: Nicole. I don’t know what’s more annoying: the billionth conversation with EJ, possibly leading up to some kind of movement in this interminable storyline but always ending up just to be a teaser moment…or her weird Donald Duck voice when she talks to Sydney.

Scene of the week: Daniel and Kate in the jail. No matter that she managed to enter his cell without so much as showing a drivers license, much less having a key…this scene had heat to it, reaching a crescendo when Daniel took off his shirt, daring her to frisk him. If there had been this much “snap crackle pop” in their love affair, maybe this storyline would have more teeth.

Performer of the week: Lauren Koslow. Even though the plot is crap, Lauren’s doing the best with what she’s got to work with. Slowly we’re seeing Kate unravel, teetering from desperation to maliciousness and back again as she works 24/7 to maintain damage control over her plot to kill Chloe.

Line of the week: Kate to Daniel (regarding Chloe): “No, she’s not ‘dead’ dead, but she is brain dead…which, come to think of it, has been her state of being forever.”

Lynn Herring on ATWT

Lynn Herring (ex-Lisanne Gardner, DAYS and wife of Wayne Northrop, ex-Roman Brady, DAYS)started her stint on ATWT this week. Check out this interview on Soap Opera Source.

I particularly like her response to the question below. The lady knows what she's talking about! Maybe Ken Corday should take a cue from her.

SOS: ATWT seems to be utilizing their veteran actors more and more. As a veteran of the industry, do you feel it's important for soaps to embrace their past, rather than shun it? There is such a movement to gain new fans, it's the long time fans who don't seem to matter to the networks.

LH: The feedback I'm getting is we love the people we grew up with; we love the people that made us feel a certain way over the years. And their comments are if they turn on a soap [General Hospital], and they aren't recognizing anyone in say the first 10 minutes, not anybody, they move on. If you want your ratings, you need to have both, like Y&R and ATWT are doing it very well too. You cannot have a show that no one recognizes anyone from 10 years ago, it's not well and the ratings speak to that. And not bringing back characters for a week, but for like 6 months. We wanted to grab the young viewers but now I think advertisers now are saying now they do have discretionary income, they are spending money but people 45 and older have a lot more money and will spend it eventually, we better hook them back in. I hope GH can do that. It's the past and it can be the future, they need to intertwine both generations.

Ali Sweeney talking about Paula Abdul

Alison Sweeney commenting on Paula Abdul's leaving AMERICAN IDOL on CNN. To see video, search for "Actors React to Paula Abdul news".

"I wasn't super surprised. I mean I'm not a huge AMERICAN IDOL fan. It obviously comes up against my show (THE BIGGEST LOSER) so I don't watch it. But I think people saw it coming, right? I mean I think people weren't super surprised by it. And I think the show is obviously so successful based on the amazing talent that they have that, you know, they're sad to see her leave but I think the show will do well."

Lost Spoilers!

Seriously, it's not too early to talk about next season's Lost. A Diva Spy member spotted this post. Sorry, there's no link yet.

Comic-Con provided a veritable tsunami of new Lost information, and we'll be sure to parse it into oblivion in the coming months, but for now we're summarizing the news into a quick, easy-to-read format.

Read on to find out what show runners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse and actors Jorge Garcia, Michael Emerson, Josh Holloway, Dominic Monaghan and Nestor Carbonell revealed about season six!

• Season six of Lost will be reminiscent of season one in that there will be a lot of running through the jungle and emotional development for the characters.

• The marketing graphic for Lost season six included all our favorite characters (heralding the return of many of them) but the important thing is that the last character added to the animation was Locke, and he was very obviously facing backward, while all the other characters were facing forward. Ahhh, Unlocke!

• According to Carlton the time-travel season is over and the flash-forward season is over and they're moving on to something altogether different for season six.

• According to Josh Holloway in the press room, Sawyer will be destroyed by the tragedy of Juliet, pushing him back towards his original, more "salty" character. He'll still carry around season' five's character growth, but he'll be rejecting it. He also told us (and forgive the gross paraphrase-on-the-run): Functional relationships (Suliet) don't make for good drama. Skate is better TV.

• The extensive backstory of Richard Alpert (Nestor Carbonell) will be explored in season six.

• Dominic Monaghan was introduced to the crowd following an In Memoriam montage of all the dead characters (in which it was revealed that Libby's last name is Smith). We can assume a return for Charlie is all but guaranteed.

• As we learned earlier this summer, Elizabeth Mitchell will appear on Lost in season six. According to Damon, her survival is contigent upon Jack's plan working.

• Jeremy Davies will appear as Daniel Faraday in Lost season six.

• According to a clip from America's Most Wanted, Kate Austen did not in fact kill her stepfather in an explosion, but she killed his employee, a plumber's assistant, instead. Have we wandered into alternate-timeline territory? And could that timeline possibly start before the crash of Oceanic 815? Two other videos that hinted at an alternate timeline were Mr. Cluck's (starring CEO Hugo Reyes) and an Oceanic Airlines commercial that said they've never had a crash...

• Another nod to alternate timelines was a funny fake video clip of Michael Emerson auditioning to play Hurley in 2004 wearing a bandana and cargo shorts.

Carlton Cuse said right out loud that J.J. Abrams has not actively worked on Lost since season one. J.J. Abrams has always been pretty open about that, but it's so rarely said out loud and most middle-of-the-road fans are always cranking, "Damn J.J. Abrams for screwing up Lost," and it's nice to see those people proven wrong, darn it.

Good news for her.

Ken Corday Fuck You Pt. 2

Ever the classy gentleman that he is, Ken Corday said this in SOD regarding the firing of Felisha Terrell in order to replace her with Lindsay Hartley: "There's a chance to cast upwards here."

Jesus Christ, someone get this man a press agent or something! Shut him up before he drives the show even further down into the crapper than it is already. Okay, even I've bashed Felisha for her nondescript acting, but I'm not the freakin' executive producer of DAYS OF OUR LIVES. You can bet Felisha will have some choice words to say about him at her next "fan luncheon".

Maybe, Mr. Ken Asshole Corday, if you hadn't fired the "upwards" cast members that you already had, you wouldn't have to be replacing actresses and sounding like the fool you are in the soap magazines. Maybe if you grew a pair and stopped letting Gary Tomlin turn DAYS into PASSIONS LITE, you wouldn't be in these awkward situations. Show some respect to your parents' legacy and get your show back before it's too late, you loser.

Credit to SON.

Are we safe from SAFE?

Are we at last safe from SAFE?

I can only hope so with the upcoming Sami/Rafe breakup.

Once Lucas and EJ get out of their toxic marriages, you can bet they’ll be running back to Sami…and I can’t wait. I don’t even want to get in to which one is the right guy for Sami. At this point, it doesn’t even matter to me. The fact is she has a real history with both of these two. They are established DAYS characters that have paid their dues. Either one of them is an improvement over Rafe. Better yet, I’d even be okay if Sami was on her own for a while. Maybe then she’d revert back to the self-sufficient schemer that I used to love rather than this whining dependent baby-popping loser that she has become.

It’s not that I have anything against the actor, Galen Gering, so much. It’s Gary Tomlin’s agenda that I object to. He has obviously gone to the James E. Reilly school of writing. Let’s gut the show of the beloved core characters only to bring on a whole bunch of new characters that have no real ties to Salem or to any of the families of Salem…or in the case of Nathan Horton, we’ll just make up some old ties as we go along. That way, Tomlin and Dena Higley don’t actually have to work at reading any character history or getting facts straight about anything having to do with the show that they work for. Why should they when Tomlin seems set on making it PASSIONS LITE anyway?

I know, I know…I need to give new faces a chance and all that. I don’t mind giving new characters and actors a chance. It’s the shoving of them down my throat that I object to, especially when I’m watching my favorite long-term characters get axed off one by one. Whatever happened to gradually letting the audience adjust to new characters? The minute Rafe came on DAYS, he became one of the main players right away. And Sami was jumping into his bed with no sort of build-up whatsoever.

From the minute Sami and Rafe were thrown together in the witness protection program, I kept getting Roman and Marlena flashbacks from the early 80s. No wonder Roman has a problem with Rafe. These two are seemingly just alike! And Sami’s always had a daddy fixation so it makes sense in a perverse sort of way. But she does not fit into the role of the 80s version of Marlena. Sami is just not believable as this bland heroine who always has to turn to her big strong hero to save her. And I don’t like her that way. Yes, I’d rather see volatile crazy Sami in either of her fucked-up relationships with Lucas or EJ than how she is now. Both LUMI and EJAMI were passionate crazy rides. That’s what I watch soaps for. But SAFE...well, it’s like watching paint dry.

A Sticky Situation

I had to pass this along, not DOOL related.

Where's Vivian's Sugar Daddy?

So since everything DAYS is going to be in a 1990s time warp this fall with the returns of Carly, Lawrence and Vivian Alamain…why not bring back Vivian’s wealthy husband/butler, Ivan? I would trade the sleep-inducing triangle of Chad/Mia/Will any day for a few scenes with Ivan. He could bring some much needed humor back to DAYS; and frankly how can Vivian Alamain survive without her trusted manservant? Surely he can’t rate too high a paycheck to break the bank.

A few fun facts about Ivan G’vera (Ivan Marais, DAYS):

The Czech actor was on DAYS from 1992 to 1999. At age 18, he fled Czechoslovakia during the Cold War for the United States. He was nominated for the "Outstanding Scene Stealer" Soap Opera Digest Award in 1998. Now, he is a naturalized citizen of the United States. He is slated to appear in the movie, TERMINATOR SALVATION (May 2009) as General Losenko. Previous to that some of his latest credits were HUSBAND FOR HIRE (USA movie, 2008) and CASINO ROYALE (2006).

Also, if you haven’t checked them out already, Louise Sorel has given two great interviews. First, a podcast with BUZZWORTHY RADIO which is worth listening to. She is quite a funny lady and a good storyteller once she has her morning cup of coffee. Also, an interview with SOAPS.COM where she mentions a website breaking the early news that she would be back (hmm...wonder who she was talking about?)

And since we’re bringing back 1990s DAYS stars, there were three others that were prominent during that time. What were their names again? Oh, yes…Drake Hogestyn, Deidre Hall and Thaao Penghlis. Hey, why not bring them back too?

ShareAs promised, here is a review of SLEUTH from the Diva Spy Network:

SLEUTH, Barrington Stage Company, Pittsfield, MA – starring Charles Shaughnessy (ex-Shane Donovan, DAYS) and Jeremy Bobb

For me, much as I love him, Charles Shaughnessy had some big shoes to fill. I had seen both filmed versions of the mystery/comedy SLEUTH before; and I had particularly enjoyed the Laurence Olivier version made in 1972. But I would say that CS succeeded in making the part his own and then some. His portrayal was definitely better than the Michael Caine version in 2007. And I would even venture to say that it was just as good as if not better than the Laurence Olivier portrayal, although since I’ve been a fan of CS for decades, I confess I’m not very objective about it.

Charles was clearly having the time of his life playing the character of “Andrew Wyke”, evidenced by a constant sparkle in his eye. Obviously, playing the role of a wealthy Brit is a bit of typecasting where CS is concerned…but in this case, he was able to show a lot more range than what most of us are accustomed to seeing when he’s on TV. His character reminded me less of Shane Donovan or Maxwell Sheffield (THE NANNY) and more of Drew Donovan, Shane’s bad boy identical twin brother. He had that same mix of boyish charm coupled with maliciousness and a talent for murder. In some parts of the play, he was even downright menacing. He also proved quite efficient with putting on all sorts of accents that worked well with the over-the-top character that “Andrew Wyke” is. The role on stage was very demanding, heavy on dialogue and a lot of physicality. CS handled it all like a pro, proving his versatility as an actor. Sometimes, I see television and film actors completely sell short on stage. But CS claims the stage is his first love; and it shows.

Jeremy Bobb seemed a bit miscast as the character of “Milo Tindle”. I felt the role seemed to call for someone a little more arrogant and glamorous (in this case, I thought Jude Law in the 2007 movie was better cast), but he really came into his own during the second act. Overall, I thought the production was excellent, even up to Broadway standards. Wonderful set, sound effects, production values, et cetera.

Congrats to Charles with this latest success.
