When Galen Gering and Eric Martsolf were hired onto the show at the same time that our beloved vets were being given their last paychecks, I preached left and right that DAYS was turning into PASSIONS LITE, PASSIONS THE SEQUEL, PASSIONS II. Whatever the fuck you want to call it. And did people listen to me? No. I got lectures about how it was time for the vets to go…how DAYS needed change and new blood…how soaps go through these cycles all the time…and blah blah blah. And now, SOD has reported that Felicia Terrell (Arianna) is going to be replaced by Lindsay Hartley (ex-Teresa from PASSIONS). And here’s the kicker. Lindsay will be playing a character where Galen Gering is once again playing her brother and Eric Martsolf is again playing her love interest! Are you fools listening to me now? Do you finally get it?!
Now don’t get me wrong, I am no fan of Felicia Terrell. She managed to suck all the oxygen out of every scene she was in with her sarcastic smirks and her whining. My theory is that the DAYS casting department has to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find actresses that will actually make Molly Burnette and Nadia Bjorlin look good in comparison. And by the way, I have no idea who those two actresses are screwing to have such star power on DAYS…but I digress…
Gary Tomlin, the REAL Tsar of DAYS now, will not rest until he has managed to take a long-lasting beloved soap that has lasted for years and morph it into PASSIONS, a show that was written by his BFF James E. Reilly (lovingly known here as JERk) and was mercifully canceled. Where is the logic in this? If PASSIONS didn’t work the first time, why would it work now?
At least with the upcoming returns of Crystal Chappell, Wally Kurth, Kevin Spirtas and Louise Sorel, I will have the opportunity to recall that long-lost forgotten show. What was its name again? Oh yeah. DAYS OF OUR LIVES!
